Toyota Lied

I’m liking this. This is funny

I am not sure why we should stay away from Toyota, personally I like trucks, and I just happen to not like Toyota’s trucks. They are too small for me, and if I were to get a car I would likely get a luxury car, so either a Lincoln or a Cadillac or possibly a Park Avenue Buick. A Mercedes would be nice, but I do not fancy cars that much at the moment.

If you take a look at the history of Japanese companies since WWII you’ll find they’ve taken American/European ideas and developed them using philosophies set out by quality gurus, with the aim of getting things ‘right first time’ and zero waste etc. Japan has come a long way from a ruined country who surrendered to one that pioneers in all sorts of fields including manufacturing and electronics.

Is it fair for me to say that people should know that there’s a ‘neutral’ on their transmission on both manual and automatic? for an automatic you could stick it to N, or go to 4 and work to 2, and in a manual you could easily work your way down the gears to slow down.

Did the handbrake ever occur to some of these people?

It’s probably easier for me to say this now, rather than in a panic with the accelerator peddle jammed.

As was said earlier in this thread by someone, in the UK if you go out in your car knowing that it isn’t road worthy/safe you are to blame should you crash.

Although these problems will tarnish Toyota’s reputation, they still have a big reputation for producing well built cars.

Well, we are talking about two different problems.

Problem 1: Nothing wrong with the accelerator, but instead it is a matter of driver error and having the foot hard on the gas while believing it is hard on the brake.

If a person is like HH and actually believes a car can accelerate while the brake pedal is being depressed hard – and I have no doubt that he isn’t alone in that ignorance, although in his case I think it is just pretend ignorance and he does know better – then it’s understandable that no solution will come quickly. They think they have the best solution already.

The best solution is of course to LET OFF THE GAS and ACTUALLY PUT THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE, not put the transmission into neutral, etc.

This problem has nothing to do with any fault of Toyotas unless they put the brake pedal too close, both vertically and horizontally, from the gas pedal, which I haven’t seen reported.

Problem 2: The gas pedal actually sticks.

It is easy to see how in a confined space, with another vehicle shortly ahead, or a tight turn or required stop shortly ahead, this could result in an accident. Not with an accumulation of vast speed from the acceleration, but it’s easy to see that response time combined with this problem and unintended acceleration could turn what had been an entirely ordinary and safe planned trajectory of the car into an accident-causing one.

Solution: The ordinary one of using the brake. Not putting the transmission in neutral or using the handbrake. The maximal braking of the car will be considerably slower than normal due to the angine fighting the brakes and so of course this may still lead to an accident.

While also (after more importantly using the brake) putting the transmission in neutral or turning off the ignition would aid this situation, restoring the degree of braking to normal, I think a person cannot be expected to think of it in time.

If its all ‘crap’, then why support foreign workers? Fuck 'em, they don’t care about you or me.

My point is that if someone built a domestic that did the Toyota thing, covered it up, and anyone in my family was maimed or killed…well, daddy’s gone a-huntin’…
Then why support Detroit when I can support local southern workers buying cars built in local plants (like Nissan). Many foreign cars are built here.
The people who cover it up are in Japan. How would I hunt them?

We have this thing in the 21st century called airplanes. This thread is retarded. Anyone who is going to take the law into their own hands and ‘hunt’ exectuives can do it whether the execs live in California, Idaho, or Tokyo.

I say fuck all the new vehicles, especially the new POS chevy silverado. I cant belive anyone would buy something like that! The body style is ridiculous!

The only vehicles I even like anymore is the Ford F-250/F-350 with the 7.3 powerstroke…and they dont even make a 7.3 anymore.

But Im getting off topic.

I think this problem could have been avoided if we stop out sourcing everything. I will bet that the molds that they used for making the gas pedal components, are Chinese made, and damn they are horrible at mold making and tool making (if you dont know what mold making is, I dont know what to tell you)

If they gave more American workers with better certifications these jobs we would not have has problems like this, but most of you already knew that  and Im biased because Im training to become a mold maker/tool maker

Maybe we should make a law that keeps mold making out of China…just kidding.

Oh and any evidence that the Chinese make worse molds than the United States.

Haha is that a serious question? Talk to anyone you know that is a journeyman tool and die maker/mold maker, you will find your answer there.

American men are men, not little munchkin people. Rice burners are for the munchkins.

Americans should buy American vehicles, built by Americans (and yes that can include the wannabe Americans also known as Canadians).

BTW, Hondas are now having troubles. Just Say NO to Riceburners!!

Feb. 12 (Bloomberg) – Former regulators hired by Toyota Motor Corp. helped end at least four U.S. investigations of unintended acceleration by company vehicles in the last decade, warding off possible recalls, court and government records show.

Christopher Tinto, vice president of regulatory affairs in Toyotaâ??s Washington office, and Christopher Santucci, who works for Tinto, helped persuade the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to end probes including those of 2002-2003 Toyota Camrys and Solaras, court documents show. Both men joined Toyota directly from NHTSA, Tinto in 1994 and Santucci in 2003.

They’re all devils. And if you have to buy from a devil, at least buy from an American devil.

Bill is correct that the brakes should have no trouble stopping a car with the gas pedal stuck. Car and Driver actually tested this and there was very little reduction in stopping distance.

Anyone wonder whether the fedel gubinment “owning” GM - and needing it to maintain/gain market share - has anything to do with this? Just askin’
In 2001 Ford had to recall 2 million vehicles due to fauly ignition switches, they hid the evidence from the Fed’s, and settled hundreds of wrongful death cases out of court and you never heard about it. As soon as the Gov’t owned GM, the Toyota recall is daily headlines. Don’t compete aginst Uncle Sam, you’ll get crushed.

BTW, my “American made” GM was assembled in Canada from parts manufactured in Mexico. “Buy American” my ass.

Corolla is next in line.

Look at how complex the accelerators are on cars today. No more of the traditional rod and linkage design, they are tied into the electronics. The older cable type would stick once in a while on GM cars, but all you’d get is a high idle condition. They’ve now taken the “foot to the carburetor” path out and sieve it through the car’s computer.

When it works, you never hear a peep out of it. When it blows up in your face, not everyone is alert or savvy enough to bring the car under control quickly enough. I saw the “fix” in a news article and was surprised to see what a flimsy piece of shit the control unit was.

Toyota makes lots of cars and I’m surprised that their problems are not more widespread, as they share parts across product lines, of course to cut costs.

Yep. I think Toyota did a GM (from the 1950s) and decided to coast on their rep and Toyota has their endless pimping by Consumer Reports.

I hate those little ‘bubble’ cars. I think they are death traps. And what good is wonderful MPG if we’re dead?

My wife just bought a 6.2L V8 AWD Platinum Escalade and I feel waaaayyyy better with her in that than in one of those Prius bumper car things. As for me, I love my truck!

Does your wife’s Escalade have 22 inch rims? Specialized forged aluminium grille?
License-plate says “property of Headhunter”

I’ve seen that car.
In my dreams.

LOL! She’s the one with the $$$$. I swear, her grandfather must have owned half of Cuyahoga County farmland, which got turned into subs, and so forth. Her family has so much fucking money its incredible.

Toyota is blaming Obama:

what was the deal with that crying Lexus-owner, that made it onto the big headlines? She testified before the Senate. This shit is getting out of hand.

Toyota stock ™ on it’s way up again?
