Thanks for all the tips guys, just one more question. If the bar comes off my shoulders when I squat up ( on DE days) should I add more weight or try to move it faster?
Thanks

Badmoon-How much do you squat? I really need to hear this.
How can anybody associated with strength training call box squats a gimick. Totally ignorant statement. It really reinforces my confidence in the CSCS certification.
the cscs is the most useless thing on earth…you should see some of the fucking guys in my cscs certification classes 150 pounds still working on that 225 pound bench and they will be cscs’s before i will…the nsca needs to be shut down it is a useless organization…it is handing out certifications to morons who have no experence COMPETING UNDER THE BAR…hey but what can you do you have to have it to work in the feild…bm
If the bar is coming off your back at the top, you are not nearly tight enough.
You should be pulling that bar into your back and bending it around your shoulders something fierce.
This should never happen.
certifications, although NOT useless, are better than nothing. Quoting a performance weight to validate knowledge is senseless. No reason why a sub 225 bencher or a sub 200 squatter, for example, cannot be a good information source
BM…are the ME pause oly squats done off pins or not? How long is the pause?
JP Dubya-You gotta wonder though why the guy with all the certifcation on knowledge, only has a 225 squat and 200 bench. If they know so much, they would be stronger, right? I think so.
Gotta disagree dubya. Those are pathetic numbers. Unless he used to lift much more and decided to run marathons, what the hell does he know? And, why doesnt he use it?
A sub-200 squatter knows nothing, no matter how much he thinks he knows. Unless, he only has one leg.
The amount of weight a trainer can handle, and what their form looks like is an absolute indication of their maturity in their chosen discipline.
Any monkey can put together a routine to show a newbie results. It takes applied knowledge to take a person from intermediate to advanced.
We decided this week that my four year old son could probably get his certification and start training newbies tomorrow. He weighs 47#'s, and to our shock, walked up and deadlifted a 50# dumbell. We all just about shit. I said to him that was too heavy, and he needed to train with a lighter weight so he didn’t get hurt. His response was, “Yeah, I know. I let my hips come up and should have been looking up, like this…demonstrating his form” We just stood there with our mouths open.
Not to parents…they see and hear everything…believe it.
I do agree with the weight doesnt necessarily mean the person is inexperienced or doesn’t know what he’s doing. Sure some people do not have under the bar experience but if those people listen and learn from the people who have that experience they can get a great understanding of it all.
Goldberg, who said box squatting was a gimick? It would be interesting to hear that persons logic.
Weight is one thing. Louie S. aint stronger than a lot of his guys, but there is such a thing as being in the right domain, i.e. a sub -200 squatter does not know anything even if he can quote chapter & verse of the Simmons bible, unless he is one-legged.
I imagine that a lot of the guys here that defend relatively weak trainers as potential fountains of knowledge are relatively weak themselves, but happen to read anything & everything pertaining to training? That is, they are in the same boat. There is a lot out there that one cannot find on the internet. I am not trying to insult anyone here. But, if this is true, ask yourself why you are not strong? There is obviously some flaw in your knowledge and application.
it depends on alot of crap, most trainers are retards yes i know, but if bm says ‘a guy 150 benching 225’ is pathetic, i really dont think it is, unless he’s been lifting 10 years or something. most of these cscs guys i see are young, so a young 150lb guy benching 225 for reps aint so pathetic ![]()
on the other hand if their squat/dead is absolutely pathetic compared to their ‘bench’, i agree they are totally worthless. it’s weird how people only focus on benching, and neglect the best aspects of training, heavy ass leg/back work.
i saw in this issue of musclemag some little 12 year old girl with knee raps and squatting i think it was +200, she looked like an absolute TWIG.
“13 year old caitlin miller amazes the audience with her drive, squatting 275”
in fact ill scan that pic of her squatting, might be good to show to those pt’s.
although, i do wonder how much she could squat without this inzer suit/belt/wraps?? just sounds weird, 13/275. she must weight 50 lbs.
Yeah a sub BW squatter may not know what the 500lb squatter may but there is all a point where we learn. Nobody was born squatting 500lbs. The problem is that people who just READ information and do not apply it to theirself or their clients are the ones who do not know what they’re talking about. No coach is better than their players. If that was the case they would be playing not coaching. Its their knowlege that makes them the coach not how they can perform BUT thay have to have a great understanding of what they’re talking about. And they can tell that by the results they get for theirself or their clients.
iamnobody- we took 5 lifters to Women’s Nats this year. I saw the Miller sisters first hand. Trust me, their performance has nothing to do with their gear.
These girls, and their father, deserve a ton of credit. Their technique is awesome and their confidence on the platform was inspiring. The fact that they have the technique and core/stabilizer strength to even utilize gear at their age is remarkable.
I believe Caitlin weighed in around 95#'s. Her 11 year old sister, Kendra, totaled 265 Kg at 77# body weight. She is not much bigger than my 6 year old.

They have a great future in this sport.
That a 13yo girl to hold 275lbs on her back is amazing. This crap about gear is stupid.
its not that i dont respect the certification, there are tons and tons of cscs that i respect christian t, jim wendler, dave tate, charles poliquin, joe defranco…all have there cscs… even tom and coach x from eleite fitness have there cscs and you guys know how much they hate the NSCA…its the orginzation of the nsca i have no respect for because there egos wont let them think outside the box…I AM CURRENTLY IN SCHOOL TO BECOME A CSCS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO HAVE IT TO WORK IN THE FEILD…its the AMERICAN COLLEGES and the NSCA curriculium i hate… not the certification…who i dont respect are the people who go to school become a cscsc and then go on and will only use western peridization and claim chains and bands dont work because thats what there nsca professor told them…but yea i plan to get 2 certifications my self the cscs and the sports strength specialist program from the issa wich is a good orginization developed by dr. squat fred hatfeild…WHY YOU ASK??..becuase soem kids parents want to see these intials by your name before they pay money to work with there kids…hey its life fellas…bm
never said i didnt respect her, i was amazed when i read it. the crap about gear isnt stupid, when you see a little 95lb girl at 12 years old squatting 275 with suit/wraps/belt etc on…
and yes i forgot to mention, the fact that she is even holding that on her back is incredible, let alone squatting it. amazing stabalizer/strength for that girl like you said.
sorry to hijack this thread! ![]()
It is stupid, especially since you are concerned about it. What federation do you compete in, again? Moreover, does she outsquat you? Is that the thing?
