Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis

It isn’t so much about the weights for some of the smaller guys. Sometimes they are looking for something more. That is why I always treat them with respect, just like others treated me.[/quote]

Good read.

I train at home in the shed gym though.

Some sound words that many would benefit from reading though.

I wish I had a home gym. I would still go to the gym to hang out with people though. I would love to do leg day at home.

Here is my first lift from yesterday (4/9/14).

Upper body mobility stuff as per usual.

Face Pull superset with Rear Lateral Raise
(Did a few warm up sets. Nothing felt right.)
10x95 - 10x20
8x95 - 10x20
8x95 - 10x20
9x80 - 10x20
10x80 - 10x20
10x80 - 10x20
10x80 - 10x20
10x70 - 10x15
10x70 - 10x15
7x70 - 10x15
(Almost all sets of rear laterals were actually sets of 12. I couldn’t get good reps with face pulls for some reason.)

Went home, did my lower body mobility work, and decided that I was going back to the gym.

Here is my second lift for the day of 4/9/14.

Face Pull
10x70
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x80

Rear Lateral Raise
20 lb dumbbell for sets of 10/10/10/10/10/10

Standing Straight Bar Curl
70 lbs for sets of 10/10/10/10/5

Much better reps and sets this time. Happier with the second lift. ALL OF THE REPS WERE QUALITY WITH A SQUEEZE. My back feels pretty good today as well.

Today is an off day and I am going to travel. I will write later though. I have a few thoughts I want to get out about a controversial topic.

I plan on getting all caught up on forums and logs later tonight if I can, or during my vacation.

Oh shit we talking gear or what bro? Hope your acl is healing up, I’m on an off day today I ran 5 k probably biked over 15 and deadlifted 405 for 2 (yesterday), needless to say I am wrecked today ahha

I got real busy and ended up even missing my lift today.

I am not too happy about it right now.

I’ll post up that conversation soon. Tomorrow I should have some free time.

I should also include that I failed to stretch today as well.

I am really not happy about this.

I don’t think this is a good way to come back from an injury.

I am confused on where to start, and how to get back. I want to go squat a PR, have it feel awesome with great form, and be sore (not injured) the next day.

I feel like my frequency might need to come up a bit on my leg lifts.

My leg days don’t match up with my upper body days anymore because of the layoff. I may just do a full squat workout, and follow it up with light deadlift and some heavy deadlift assistance. I don’t know though.

I am also still writing my new program. Lots of ideas floating around. I mean lots of them haha.

Here is my rant…

I do believe that if you compete in a sport with a weight class, there should be no excuses made if you lose an event.

I am going to loosely quote Jim Wendler here. I can’t find the exact quote, but it wen’t something like this…

“Guys always have some bitch-ass excuse as to why they didn’t lift well at a meet. They got sick during their prep, the bench was too high off the ground, and so on. It doesn’t fucking matter. Just get stronger.”

I am going to even throw steroids in that group of excuses. People need to worry about themselves, and stop making excuses about stupid shit that has no effect on their own lifting.

I HAVE NEVER TOUCHED A BELT OR PEDs, AND I PERSONALLY DONT CARE IF YOU LIFT WITH 100’s OF DOLLARS OF AAS IN YOUR SYSTEM, AND IN FULL GEAR. I don’t care about the thickness of your belt, the lift in your shoe, the length of your wraps, the brand/sizing of your squat suit. I don’t fucking care because I am going to do this MY way, and I am going to try to kick your ass regardless of the circumstances.

I do care that you make depth, that you touch your chest, and that you lock out your lifts. That is about it.

That being said, I have no respect for guys who break the rules or treat others like shit. I don’t care who you are. We all know a few good examples of this.

Hustle, integrity, and humility will always be more important than records in my book.

I do look down on guys that compete in natural bodybuilding federations that take tons of AAS, but if you are natty and you go to an untested meet, you had better be ready to deal with the consequences and not act like a bitch if you lose. You fucking knew better.

In my eyes, if you both weigh in at 181, and you are within the rules of that meet, there is no reason for you to lose other than that the other guy beat you on that particular day, or that you came unprepared.

Of all the things that I have addressed, one thing that I hate more than a sore loser is a poor winner. Show some class and act like you’ve been there before for crying out loud.

One of the reasons I made this log with the goal of a 1200 lb total is because i feel that is a level of strength that I think everyone from noob to world record holder can agree on being “not weak.”

This weight class rant reminds me of a conversation a while back I had with a friend. He was talking about how awesome it was that an Arizona State wrestler with either no legs or legs cut off at the knee had won the national championship in the 170ish weight class. I agreed and said yes that is amazing and very heartfelt story but IMO it is not fair what so ever. What percentage of your weight is from the waist down? This kid had the upper body of a man that weighed 240+ and was wrestling kids 60 pounds less than him.

He still beat them with no legs lol.

I wish I would have wrestled in high school. I think it is a great sport.

That being said, and I can’t believe that I am going to say this with 100 percent pure seriousness, but…If winning is everything to you, and you are convinced that having one leg is an advantage, why haven’t you cut your leg off yet haha?

It is within the rules.

On a more serious note, his record was like 129 and 15 in the 125 lb class. He can be beaten. Plus, maybe he really was that good.

Aleksandr Karelin’s wrestling record was 887 wins and 2 losses in his entire career.

Did my mobility work yesterday (4/12/14).

I am about to do lower body mobility and then head to the gym.

He did, but there are different federations where you can’t use your legs in wrestling so that proves it can be done easily. He had the upper body power and strength of someone 50 pounds heavier than him.

Have you ever saw the movie Warrior?

Yeah. It was filmed in Pittsburgh I think.

Great movie. I’ll have to watch it again. Tom Hardy was massive in that movie.

I want to go as Bane for Halloween next year because of it haha.

Mobility for the day of 4/13/14 is done. Off to the gym for legs.

My throat got so tight at the end when he was beating the tar out of him and was saying “I love you man” I almost cried lololol

I will log tonight’s lift tomorrow after I see if my back held up ok.

It was a great movie. I think it was real long if I remember correctly.

Here is the lift from 4/13/14.

Squat
5xbw
5x135
5x185
3x225
3x275
3x315 (Back rounded a bit on the third rep.)
1x365 (Paused. I don’t think the spotter touched me. I was pretty rounded over for this rep.)
1x365 (Paused. Another lifter offered me a belt to try. Form was much better with the belt on.)
1x315 (Paused. I just don’t feel like I have my work capacity on the leg lifts back yet.)
1x225 (Same story as before.)

Front Squat
3x135
5x185
3x185 (Couldn’t get a good set up on these.)

Leg Press
10 x 4 plates per side
10 x 5 plates per side
10 x 6 plates per side
10 x 7 plates per side (Had some chest pain after this set. Only when I breathed in though.)
(I had 8 loaded, but I decided to not bother with it.)

Leg Curl
10x50
10x70
10x90
10x110
7x130
10x110
10x110
10x110
9x110
10x110
8x110
9x110

Machine Shrug
10x180
10x270
15x270
15x180

My back feels a bit tight today. The 365 with a belt was all I had to give today. I can’t help but think that if I would have used it on my first attempt at 365, that I would have been good for a few pounds more. My back feels a bit tight today, but I am going to stretch and lift later. I’ll up date this log when that all happens.
