Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis

cool log Trivium, seems like you’re getting pretty close to your goal of 4/3/5[/quote]

Thanks man. I think I have a little while before I can get to my goals. I am happy with the progress I have made though. Hopefully I can get to 1200 by the end of the year.

Lift from 1/8/14.

Press
5x45
5x95
3x95
3x120 (Left plate felt heavier than right.)
3x135 (Felt ok. Decided my hands were too narrow, so I would move them out a bit on the next set.)
6x155 (Paused. Last rep was the hardest grinder rep I have ever done. The first 5 felt good and easy. No failing.)
4x135 (Paused. No failing.)
4x135 (Felt easier than the first set. Paused. No failing.)

Pull Up
8 (Whole machine moved. It wasn’t secured to the ground. So I went over to the smith machine, and chalked up.)
10 (Not sure if last rep was good or not.)
8
6 (Got 7, but not sure about last rep.)
5
5 (Wide grip on cable stack. Kipped a bit.)
6
7
3

Dips (These were super sets with the last few sets of pull ups.)
10
10
10
10
5

Gotta lift later tonight (1/9/14). I would rather be tired and have to grind lifts than miss anymore. I have missed too much.

Holy balls. Today is going to be rough. I gotta reset my sleep schedule and lift. I have been working graveyard 12’s. I am living on my goulash, chocolate milk, granola bars, and whatever the hell I can eat at the hospital.

Got blood all over my lab coat yesterday, so I gotta wake up early to find a laundromat. Ill probably get like 4 hours of sleep tonight, but I will just use it as an excuse to wake up and get some breakfast. Fuck.

Lift from 1/10/14. Had to take a day off. I just got all messed up with my sleep and other stuff.

Pull Ups
11 (overhand slightly wider than shoulder grip.)
Then the rest were neutral grip for sets of 7/6/6/6/6

Face pulls
50 lbs on stack for 10
65 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10
80 lbs on stack for 10

Underhanded Face Pull
55 lbs on stack for 10 (Waiting for my spot who said he was on his way when I got done with face pulls. He was “running a few minutes late.”

Cable Row
140 lns on stack for 10 (Just killing time.)

Standing Straight Bar Curl
70 lbs for sets of 10/10/10/7/4

Dumbbell Rear Laterals
20 lb dumbbells for sets of 10/10/10/10
15 lb dumbbells for sets of 10/10/10

This lift took forever. I feel that I am getting a tad out of control with volume on some of my lifts haha. Havent been eating or sleeping optimally.

The lift from yesterday (1/11/14).

Squat
10xBW
5x45
5x135
5x185
3x225
3x275
3x305
6x345 (Spot’s fingers touched me on 3, but didn’t help me up. I got the next 3 without any touches. No fail. All deep. More below.)
6x305 (Very, very happy with these reps. Controlled. Comfortable. Deep. Easy.)
6x275 (A bit fatigued here, but got it.)

(I felt like trying to get a single at 365, but decided to be disciplined and not do an ego lift. I felt like I almost dumped number 6 over my head. Had to fight like hell to get it. I really have to find a way to keep more upright. I think that if I can find a way to stay upright I will be much more powerful. I am not upset about my spot touching me on the 3rd rep. He didnt help at all and it was literally for a split second. During my top set, I had to take like 4 or 5 seconds between reps to get them for some reason. It was the longest set ever, and my arms were completely numb by the end. I don’t think I have ever taken that long to hold a bar between reps. It’s whatever though.)

Leg Press
400x20
490x10
580x10
670x4 (Was totally gassed here.)

Tried to catch up on my sleep and eat well for a day or so before this session. I am happy with the number for my sqaut, but not how it looked or felt. I want this to look pretty, not like I am fighting like a mofo to keep upright. I know those reps looked like shit. I am especially happy with the set of 305 I did after. That one looked pretty, and felt great.

I am starting to get over squatting over 315. Mentally that was a wall for me that I feel is coming down slowly.

Lots on my plate with life right now. Sorry guys. I am being a terrible online friend. =[

Fuckin nice dude

My life is a terrible mess right now. I have been trying to be consistent with my lifts, but it is getting harder.

My lift from 1/14/14

Bench
5x45
5x135
3x185 (Left felt heavier than right.)
3x225 (Felt kind of heavy.)
7x240 (Felt like I had 8. Got out of the groove and failed it though. All paused.)
7x215 (Paused.)
7x185 (Paused.)

Incline Dumbbell Bench
80 lb dumbbells for sets of 10/10/10/10

Kroc Row
115 lb dumbbell for sets of 10/10 (Gym closed, so I drove 20 minutes to a gym I have a key to. Opened the gym. Got back to work.)
120 lb dumbbell for sets of 10/10/10/10/5

Felt good with a lot of these lifts. My diet sucks right now. I am starving, but I don’t have an appetite.

I took the next day off, and I lifted today (1/16/14).

Pull Ups
9/5 (Forgot my chalk so these suffered.)

Chin Ups
7/5

T-Bar Row Machine Thing
10x35
10x45
10x70
10x90
10x115
10x135
5x160 (Odd set up on this machine. Not sure if it was my diet lacking, or the set up. This was all I had in me. Passable form.)
5x160 (Same as above.)
10x135
10x135
10x115
10x90
10x90
10x90
10x90
10x90
15x90 (Focused on form intensely for all sets with 90.)

Triceps Rope Pushdown
10x30
10x40
10x50
10x60
10x70
10x80
10x90
10x100 (Form got sketchy on last couple reps.)
10x90
10x90
10x90
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x80
10x70
10x70
10x70
10x60
10x50
10x50
10x50
10x50 (Had a good pump going here. Really tried to focus on form and controlling weight with all sets.

I really want to catch up with everyone’s logs. I wish I had a moment to breathe.

Thanks for the positive words man. I hope I can catch back up on your log soon.

Took yesterday as an off day because I was so beat up after work and had to drive home.

Today (1/18/14) was deadlift day.

Deadlift
5x135
5x225
5x275
3x315
3x350 (Felt hard for some reason.)
6x395 (Stalled 7. May have hitched 6 a bit. All 6 were through full range of motion though. This was an all out effort. Just didn’t have it today.)
3x350 (Held it at the top of the 3rd rep.)
12x315 (Felt bad about not being disciplined enough to do 6 at 315. Used towels for this set.)

Leg Curl
10x60
10x80
10x100
10x120
10x130 (New PR. 2 more than last week.)
6x130 (All dead stop reps with special attention to form.)
15x100
15x100
10x100 (This was a set of 8 last week.)
10x100 (This was a set of 9 last week.)
10x70 (Special attention to form.)

Felt some knee discomfort. I should have never done stiff legs like an idiot. I should have used proper form. I am hoping this is just some tendinitis, and not anything serious. It only hurts when stretched while setting up. It does not hurt when I go to perform any of my lifts (squat, leg press, deadlift, leg curl, etc.).

As always, thanks for reading everyone.

May you all set PR lifts and PR meals.

Someone told me to look up some dude named Sadik or something. The guy said he was the “new Frank Zane.”

Here is the lift from 1/21/14.

Press
5x45
5x95
5x135 (Felt easy.)
3x145
4x160 (Paused. Hit a brick wall on the 5th rep just above my head.)
4x145 (No fail. Paused.)
5x135 (No fail. Paused.)
(Really took my time in between sets. Don’t feel like I got any type of shoulder pump.)

Pull Up
11/7/7/7/7/7/4/5/4 (Took my time here.)

Dips
10/10/10/10/10/10 (I thought I only did 5, but I had 6 in my log. Again, I took my time.)

I burned my hand 2 days ago. Second degree burns on the pads of my fingers. Someone left the burner on the stove on for me to find. I used athletic tape to keep everything from going to hell. It worked. Luckily I have rough hands from lifting.

I am going to try to eat better and sleep better. This lift took a long time because I took my time and ran into a ton of people I know that I haven’t seen for a while.

Me and a few guys at my gym are going to do Dave Tate’s Oreo challenge tomorrow after our lifts. I will post my results.

Tomorrow’s lift is chins, face pulls, curls, and rear laterals.

Thanks for reading!

11/8/7/7/6/7/5

Face Pull
10x50
10x65

10x87.5
10x87.5
10x87.5
10x87.5
10x72.5
20x72.5
20x65
20x50

Standing Strict Straight Bar Curl
70 lbs for sets of 10/10/10/10

10 lb dumbbells for sets of 15/15/15/5

Rear Lateral Machine
80 lbs on stack for sets of 10/10/10 (Tried to control the weight and squeeze hard on each rep. Focused greatly on form.)

My time on the Oreo challenge was 16 minutes and 55 seconds.
