I guess it finally got to him that he directed such an over-hyped shitty film starring an equally over-hyped shitty actor.
I wonder why he did it.
His career seemed fine, I mean he directed Unstoppable last year so it’s not like he wasn’t working.
Also, I’ve never seen Top Gun.
And I don’t think I ever will.
take it back ID, with no Top Gun, there never would have been Hot Shots
True Romance, Domino, and Man on Fire are also personal favorites of mine…I liked the style he shot his films in recently. That may be more do with some in the principal filming dept though?
Regardless, this sucks…just like Top Gun

Hey! I didn’t make him jump.
True Romance and The Last Boy Scout FTW.
Oh yeah he directed The Last Boy Scout!
I still use lines from that movie to this day!
I’m impressed the old guy was able to jump off that bridge. From what I remember that’s not an easy bridge to jump off.
I thought it was morbid that this is what Ron Howard had to say ?No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day.?
Ron Howard speaks Spanish?
.

No, that’s new to me. I started chuckling when Dido started playing and didn’t stop 'til the end.
Thanks- I needed that.

Tony Scott was an avid rock climber. There’s a diving joke in there somewhere, but it won’t be made by me. A cooling off period of three to four months is about right.
I hope he was wasn’t being disingenuous, not when he directed Far and Away and The Davinci Code…plus the brothers Scott are far superior to the brothers Howard. Child actor Ron Howard carves out a successful post-Happy Days directing career; fellow child actor and brother Clint Howard carves out a living in Ron Howard movies.
Spot the difference.

What gets me about Clint is how can such a dorky guy be named Clint? You’ve gotta be a cool cat to wear that name.
I’m sure Ron wasn’t being disingenuous and I suspect he had more to say that just wasn’t quoted. If all he had to say was ‘Oh no, no more Tony Scott movies’ and nothing about the friends, family and loved ones left behind, that would be morbid.
So, it seems that Tony Scott took himself out after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer:
what a shame…wasted what remaining time he could have had with family, mind you i know what
cancer can do, but do not know much on brain cancer, other than saying inoperable. can someone elaborate?
RIP Mr.Scott
