Top 5 WAR movies

Since this is a testosterone drivin website so I though, what a better place to find good war movies then this forum. My personal top 5 are:

  1. Braveheart
  2. Band Of brothers
  3. Platoon
  4. Saving Private Ryan
  5. Full Metal Jacket

Good list you have there! How about adding Mel Gibsons “Patriot” to the mix?

Apocalypse Now

Since none of you can pick “A” favorite movie, thought you might could use this…$9.99 paramount DVD’s at Buy.com

“seige of firebase gloria”
awesome R. Lee Ermy vietnam era, semi documentary flick…

Stalingrad

It’s a German language film and hence sub-titles. No false war glory, just real people being slaughtered. There is this one scene where German foot solders are told to stop head on a Soviet tank Column. It is probably the most terrifying scene in a movie I that I know of.

Of fire and sword

Also This Polish language film of fire and sword (I think that is right). It is about the Poles fighting the Cossacks and the Tartars. Lots of swords and slavery basically.

Thin red line was good too.

Top 5 war movies eh?

  1. Das Boot
  2. The Thin Red Line
  3. Zulu
  4. Platoon
  5. Braveheart

T-Quinn-

Apocalypse Now isn’t really a war movie. Read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

-60 Minutes Over Tokyo

-Gallipoli

-THe Alamo-no, just kidding!

Forgot about Das Boot, I recommend the uncut version.

In no particular order:

  1. Zulu
  2. Platoon
  3. Full Metal Jacket
  4. Saving Private Ryan
  5. Apocalypse Now Redux

Also Consider:
Battleground (an oldie!), Band of Brothers series (awesome!)

I’d have to add “Master and Commander” to the list…

that’s a damn good movie.

“Pull men! Pull like you’re pulling a Frenchman off your Mother!”

scarface

Kelly’s Heroes

Gallipoli is on tonite on IFC, at 7 pm

or SUnday 10 pm, or Monday 3:30 am.

Apocalypse now isnt a war movie then I pick Mash as the best war movie, it had army jeeps and camouflage wardrobe in it.

we were soldiers

lord of the rings

Lord of the Rings.
Best fiction story ever created!

I like your list, Bigwall…

I would add the following for a good “glimpse” of War throughout History:

1)“Glory” (The Civil War)

2)“The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc” (Medival Warfare)

3)Add the following for Modern War:

“Black Hawk Down”
“Hamburger Hill”

Honorable Mention:
The opening scence of “Gladiator”

Mufasa
