For Whom The Bell Tools
Battery
Four Horsemen
One
Master of Puppets
Everyone’s list is subjective but the OP said “your” favorite songs, and these are 5 I came up with. I’m sure if you asked me later, I’d probably have a couple of different songs in there.
Fight Fire With Fire
Eye of The Beholder
Frayed Ends of Sanity
Dyers Eve (if it’s not clear yet, …And Justice was my favorite album)
The End of the Line (wanted to throw a new one in there)

I read this and my initial thoguht was “What the heck…” I still haven’t bought the new album yet. I was away the day it came out, so I’ve just forgotten to pick it up. It’s stunning, really, what a complete and total absense of 4 years from either touring or releasing new material can do to your enthusiasm for a band. I mean, 10 years ago, I LIVED by them. I knew the lyrics for almost all the songs, I knew what order each song appeared on each album, I collected singles from europe, I read every piece of trivia and new release rumor I could find, I left school in the middle of the day to pick up Garage Inc … but now, I dunno.
Someone hear linked to their first single off the new album, i cant even remember the title, the one with the lyrics “born to push you around/better just stay down” and the image that came into my mind was the corpse of my adolescence wheezing out one last breath that had somehow been trapped in there for all these years. I really did like the guitar, and the base as well for that matter, but when I was 16 and had even less understanding of any kind of musical proficiency than I do now, it was the LYRICS that had originally grabbed me.
I was watching ‘Some Kind of Monster’ (which is just sad and depressing in its own way, for obvious reasons) within the last few months and James (remember when he spelled it ‘Jaymz’?) mentioned that he felt like all he was writing on St Anger were recovery songs and he didnt want to do that. It was an epiphany hearing that because all of a sudden it was so clear to me that that’s exactly what all those songs were. not that that’s bad in and of itself, but I dont know how to explain why that’s such a negative for me, that the songs arent just about aurally kicking your butt any more, with lyrics that were intense without being corny or over the top.
On the other hand I did get to sing ‘Last Caress’ with strongman competitor Johannes Arsjo who has the 4 M/shuriken tattoo on his shoulder, so that was cool. And I’ll sure as heck be going to see them when they go on tour again at the beginning of next year

What the hell… I’ll get in on this.
Leper Messiah

I honestly thought I was going to be the only one include that song.
I saw Metallica in '94, and went with a friend who had seen then countless times, he said they had never played Leper Messiah…ever. They did at that show, yes they did…and it was excellent.

No disrespect husker but how old are you? All of those songs are the reason Metallica has sucked for the last 10 years, especially enter sellout, I mean sandman.
A better list would be:
Master of Puppets
Fade to Black
Welcome home (sanatarium)
Orion
Seek and Destroy
nice,
my list, and its a tough one.
How can you be a fan and pick 5 songs.
my main infulance was late 80s to mid 90s
so I heard alot of the black album( which pisses me off hearing it named that) it is a self titled album
METALLICA,METALLICA NOT BLACK ALBUM FUCK and masters of puppets that kind of sound
1)Seek and Destroy
2) the four horsemen
3)Motorbreath
4)Sanatarium
5)Battery
I love the old stuff (and new album) way better than the newer hard rock songs, but it’s MUSIC, people can like what they fucking want!
I’m a die hard metal fan, but I CANT STAND all the damn elitists deciding what’s metal and what’s not, what is cool and what it isnt. It’s not religion, it’s music, art, totally SUBJECTIVE.
Battery
Master
Sanatarium
Blackened
Orion
But that list is ever changing…
Live, my favourite has to be Disposable Heroes, just because of how crazy it was in the crowd with each “Back to the front”

How old do you have to be to like the songs the OP mentioned? I am in my middle 30’s and I like The Unforgiven II, The Memory Remains, No Leaf Clover, etc. better than the old stuff. No matter what Metallica you like better, they still write better material than anyone else out there IMO.
You are about the same age as my brother and he likes gay Metallica better too.
Hey, I would like to think that there is no “gay” Metallica. How about “slightly more sissy?”
I don’t know, after watching SKoM I think Lars could easily swing both ways. Lets not even start with Kirk.

Chill dude, even they refer to it as the black album

It was kind of surreal when Dave Mustaine was talking to Lars, about how upset he was when he got kicked out of Metallica… It was a WTF moment for me.
Fade to black
One
Leper Messiah
Bleeding me
Some kind of monster
This is just right now, at this very moment. My favorite songs by them change constantly as there are so many! Stone cold crazy cover, That was Just Your Life, Blackened, For Whom the Bell Tolls…Etc. FUCK so many lol
