speed stamina dexterity and athleticism AT WHAT?
How bout this. NBA guys vs NHL guys at basketball followed by a hockey contest. NBA guys do worse at hockey than NHL guys at BBall.
But, regardless, your only argument is because you “think” a hockey guy “would admit” something. Get real. You’re an idiot.[/quote]
And you know this how? I’d place a million dollar bet that if you take any 10 guys from the NHL and NBA and put them in a combine setting measuring multiple athletic qualities that ball players would blow the hockey players fucking doors off.

His point is, while there are certainly high level athletes who play the sport, it certainly isn’t a requirement. Please show me an out of shape decathlete.

First of all, the player pools aren’t even the same. You have millions upon millions of HS kids who play basketball, Yet very few HS’s even have a hockey team. College is even less. You would be picking from a pool that started out at say 50 million and got weeded down to a couple hundred or say a thousand.
Hockey might have 200,000 to start off with and whittle that down to 500. You are arguing apples and oranges, yet you are avoiding my argument. Why?

“And you know this how?” Because basketball is an easier off the cuff sport to play than hockey. Pretty much anyone can do the basics of BBall. <-see I have a reason.
But, I’ve been asking you how you know the things you’re claiming, to which you once again respond with a speculative unfounded claim. Nice. GTFO.
I thought this thread was supposed to be about the fittest sports and athletes, not the “best” athletes?
I wouldn’t rate a marathon runner as a better athlete than a lineman, but they’re sure as hell fitter aerobically than one.

I know it 'cause I can see it with my own two eyes, retard. Jesus Christ. Just about everyone here has agreed with me yet you still feel the need to argue.

lol. Good solid reason. especially since you admit to not knowing anything about hockey.
Did I land on WF’s Ignore or something?

WF, you guys are arguing but the debate isn’t even valid, Neither Hockey or Basketball has the Supreme althetes.
Wanna know how I know? Because they have specialized positions. One guy can’t cover all the “athletic” positions in just one sport, let alone along multiple sporting disciplines.
What BB player are you picking, Guard? Center? Forward?
Your Guard would be the only reasonable choice, and even still, they would get creamed in a bunch of other disciplines. Though they are built the most similarly to a decathalete, if they trained as a decathalete they would probably get pretty good.
All that being said, it’s exactly about what training they do. A Decathalete can do 10 olympic events really really good. A Basketball player can do 1 sport really really good. How did jordan do at baseball? On the other hand how were Bo Jackson and Deon sanders at baseball?
Bo Jackson was probably the single best athlete to ever live, He b=played baseball and football because thats where the money is. He would have been a great Decathalete.

Basketball players play “specific positions” out of necessity, but don’t get it twisted, they’re all athletic. Played with a supremely out of shape Shawn Kemp 5 or so years ago and he was crossing people over, reigning [if anyone gets that, nice] 25 footers and moving way more smoothly than anyone 6’10" 330+lbs has any right to. The fluidity that basketball players posess cannot be understated. I will agree that Bo Jackson is probably the greatest natural athlete of all time. Thought I said that earlier in the thread?

I know enough about athleticism to know that hockey players aren’t on basketball players level. Again, just about everyone here agress with me yet you’re still arguing. Drop it man. You lose.

Who specifically are you sighting as agreeing with you? This sounds like another of your made up polls.
I have decathletes/pole vaulters categorized under track and field power events. If you read the blog I mention how Bryan Clay has scored the highest in the Nike Sparq rating than anyone else. I considered hockey and basketball but looking at the hockey combines and basketball players workout/stats; I didn’t see anything that would make them replace somebody in my own top ten list. However not too much information is out their. Also keep in mind this all depends on the athlete and is just for fun/speculation.

Remember combine numbers are entering the pro sport, not at the top of it. For Hockey that’s 17 year olds mostly at the combine.

Go back and read through the thread numbnuts. There’s several people on damn near every page that agree with me. You really can’t be this retarded.

I thought the question was what sport creates the better athlete. Once we get to Pro’s you are hand picking the best of the best.

That’s fine, but you still need to normalize your stats for age. If you are looking at 17 year old hockey players, you need to compare that to 17 year olds in other sports.
For example you can’t compare the hockey combine numbers to the NFL version. 17 year olds versus 22-23 year olds isn’t a fair comparison.

I agree that basketball players are more athletic than hockey players. But I still don’t think basketball players are the most athletic in the world. I also follow the logic in decathlon champions are the most athletic. For the record, I participated in track (just jumps) and basketball in HS and still play b-ball so my opinion my be biased.
I know what WF means with his Shawn Kemp story. These big guys (6’7 and up) that look tall and slow on TV are nothing like that in person. It’s mind blowing when a 6’7 250 lb guy blows past you because he has an insanely quick 1st step despite his size.
-Basketball Players
-Decathletes
-Tennis Players
-Hockey Players
-Football Cornerbacks and Linebackers
-MMA guys, and Boxers
