Top 10 Rappers of All Time

LL!

Canibus, come on people, the best battle raps all came from him, he owned LL!

In no particular order:
-Canibus
-Kool g rap
-Prodigy (the early mobb deep era)
-Big pun (He could rap and rhyme so fast)
-Nas (illmatic)
-Pharoahe monch
-GZA (gotta read the labels!)
-Q-tip
-Early Eminem
-5FT from Black moon (personal favorite, just like his flow

Unfortunately, I don’t own enough albums of alot of artists , but I have alot of singles that I think are awesome.

But my top 3 would be:
Eminem - I’ve been listening to him since I was 8 years old
Dr.Dre - Learned of him from Bitch Please II (a collaboration between Eminem, Dre, and Snoop Dogg)
Snoop Dogg - Also learned of him from Bitch Please II

Bitch Please II is probably my favorite hip hop track, ever.

I like 2pac too but alot of his stuff is right over my head. So I don’t think he’d be in my top 5, even.

I like some lesser known artists like Styles of Beyond as well.

I’ll have to check out some of these artists you guys are pointing out!

Bitch Please II:

Come on hommie, why no love for Dre?

Dude he’s a producer; hardly a rapper. Most of his shit was/is written for him.

As for my top ten list. In no particular order

Nas
Common
Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Biggie
Q Tip
Lupe Fiasco
Rakim
Andre 3000
Jay Z

Hon. Mention: Cee Lo, Snoop(one of the best ACTUAL freestylers in the game), Eminem, Canibus.

Best list that has been said so far. You honestly can’t put a top 10 hip hop list without Andre 3000 or Talib Kweli. But that’s the problem with these top 10 lists, it’s all based off of mainstream music people have picked up off the radio. Any one that can rhyme over a Dj Premier or J Dilla beat deserves mad respect such as Common, yet have the substance and flow as say Masta Ace. These lists are obviously subjective but when I started reading people putting the likes of T.I., the Game, or Ludacris in their top 10, you guys don’t know anything about hip hop.

Also to the guy that said there’s no good Aussie hiphop, ever heard of M-Phazes?

What the fuck are you talking about that you can’t have a top ten list with Dre 3000 or Kweli? My list had almost no mainstream rappers, but I don’t consider either of the two you mentioned top 10. Shit, Kweli is the weaker half of Blackstar. I’m about to change my list actually. Lemme go back and see who I put there.
I think when you look at a top 10 list, you’re going to have to take mainstream success into account. Anyone can name a rapper that can flow better than those that have hit it mainstream, but can you honestly say they’re the best if they didn’t have the success that should be granted to them on their lyrical skill?

My personal top 10 list would include those rappers that haven’t made it as big as say the Jay-Z’s or Eminems but they have turned their success into empires/brands that cant really be touched right now. The underground scene is much, much better than that of what has hit mainstream, but the problem is that there isn’t the recognition which is both good and bad. I hope the underground stays underground because you don’t wanna see some of these skilled rappers sellout so they can make more guap.

Also I agree that Mos Def is the better half of Black Star but I just like Talib better.

You fools won’t list Black Thought of The Roots?

Watch some of his old school free styles on YouTube. Amazing.

Something is wrong with this whole thread. Not one person mentioned one rapper out of the Def-Jux camp… And The rhymsayers barely got a mention… Does anyone here even follow rap?
I just started listening to Cage recently and really like most of his stuff. I haven’t heard the other artists on the label though.
(imo)Cage was great up until Hell’s Winter, which was great btw. I don’t have a problem with his new alternative style but his lyrics got dumbed down so much which bothered me. The brain running def jux is el-p though. That man is a fucking genius by any standard.

I was listening mostly to his older stuff off of movies for the blind. I’ll have to check out el-p.

I didn’t have cage in my top 10. I’ll have to check necro out too.

My Picks

Raekwon
Lil Wayne - Yeah I said it. Fuck you)
Skinnyman - Council Estate of Mind is in my top 5 best albums ever.
Eminem
LLoyd Banks - Must have listened to his ‘Mo Money in the bank’ mixtape 100x
Ghostface Killah - The Pretty Toney Album got put on repeat constantly when that came out.
Dead Prez (Stic.Man & M-1) - I’m a middle class cracker, and even though ‘my people’ are getting pulled apart by these two I can’t help but absolutely love 'em. Let’s Get Free was amazing.
Fabolous
Immortal Technique - Can’t listen to this guy constantly; but when I do I am in awe at his intelligence and skill.
Kanye West - Some shit stuff in the past but the good stuff has been really good.

My faves:

Slug from Atmosphere
Sage Francis
Cormega
Chino XL (big fan olf his older stuff)
Immortal Technique
RA The Rugged Man
Eminem (back in his ‘Infinite’ days)
Celph Titled
Rhymefest
Cage

Fuck mainstream rap, huh?

My favorite 5
Kid Cudi
Eminem
Jay-z
Tech N9ne
Kanye West

Some here gotta recognize the tribal elders. Hardly any 80s/early 90s rappers in these lists.

You get props for recognizing the Chef… The Chef and Method Man are both better than the Ghost IMO.

stfu don’t give me that attitude man. you got atleast a couple of people saying dre is no where near the RAP top ten but you continue to ignore it.

Yes most of his shit was/is written for him.

The day dre beats eminem in a freestyle is the day he deserves to be top ten. 'nuff said.
