Nate Dog,
My breath is fine, thank you. I don’t need to brush three times a day to have nice breath.

Hey guys, I just realized something. My shit doesn’t stink. Isn’t that amazing? Everybody else’s has a nasty-ass smell to it, but my shit doesn’t bother me at all.
Not brushing at least twice a day is pretty damn disgusting. I just feel the absolute urge to do so, just so my mouth feels clean. Those 5 minutes after you brush your teeth are just great.
Neil - what’s the hang up on primitive cultures? You talked extensively about them before, and now you bring them up again? Just wondering.
Jared,
It’s amazing what people think is “normal” around here. I guess it’s normal for people to be on meds, get sick frequently, have bad breath that requires relentless brushing, etc. Let me guess, you need deoderant, too, otherwise you’ll smell putrid?
Neil
JWright,
“Neil - what’s the hang up on primitive cultures? You talked extensively about them before, and now you bring them up again? Just wondering.”
I wouldn’t call it a hang up. I think it’s more of a bit of fascination. I just find it interesting how these people were healthy by doing the exact opposite of what “modernized” civilization is taught. Their knowledge of what’s good for them is really neat to read about. If they follow their traditions, they are superior physically with great formation of the face (pronounced cheek bones, wide faces, solid bone structure, perfect dental arches and teeth, proper noses, etc.), not to mention their general lack of degenerative disease. When I was in school and reading about traditional cultures and how “modern” foods cause deformities in children, I started looking at the kids around me. Most of the kids had some sort of problems…narrow faces, small noses, messed up teeth, poor vision, very skinny, etc. Not to mention how femanine many guys looked.
I also feel that they are great evidence for a lot of things, considering their isolated nature.
I just feel we could learn a lot from them.
Take care,
Neil
Man, you do need deodorant. Even if you eat healthy, you have bacteria under your pits, and those bacteria produce odor. Think about after a hard training session and you sweat your ass off. I don’t smell so peachy-clean afterwards. I’ve known guys to get out of the shower, put deodorant on and stink right away.
I rarely get sick, brush my teeth twice a day AND wear deodorant every day. This is normal.
JWright,
" I’ve known guys to get out of the shower, put deodorant on and stink right away."
That’s an interesting point. I find that I avoid odor best by washing my pits with soap every 2-3 days, and just rinsing them instead. Maybe washing away all the oils every day is a bad idea? Also, isn’t there good bacteria on the skin as well? I don’t stink when I sweat…I played basketball with some buddies once for hours and I was soaked, but no odor at all.
Neil
NeilG, if your post to me was supposed to be your attempt at tongue-in-cheek humor, it failed miserably. Now we think that you don’t wear deodorant. Whether or not that is true, I don’t want to know.
Also, I agree that there is a lot that can be learned from ancient/isolated cultures. I agree with you that we have a lot of shit in our life that we don’t need that healthy, natural living could take care of. I don’t, however, see that it’s fair to hold them (the cultures) up as bastions of healthiness because they did not develop degenerative diseases.
Yes, we have fat ass children developing diabetes before puberty, but we also live much longer than we used to, thus opening ourselves up to the chronic & degenerative illnesses that you’re talking about. It’s hard to know much about cancer when the most common reason for death is bear maulings or scurvy or something else preventable with modern technology.
Look at our top killers. Most of them are from living too long (ha ha, fun sentence). By the way, a lot of these things (heart disease, lung cancer, watching the Anna Nicole show) are reasons to take some risks in your life. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather go out blazing than smoldering. ![]()
Shit, now we know for sure about the deodorant thing. Note to T-Cells: don’t invite this guy over for the night without some Febreeze.
Oh, and reference my above post on my clean-smelling shit.

I would love to see an article on bleaching as well as cosmetic dentistry.
My teeth are tiny (like they never matured) as well as my bite (it doesn’t seem to match my large head.) I am concerned that caps will effect my bite and make it even worse than it is.
I am thinking about getting my teeth capped but don’t want an artificial look. I was going to PM you to see if you had any resources on cosmetic dentistry you could direct me to, so I could educate myself a little on what the issues are (a website maybe). But if you do write something for T-Mag i would love to see some info on cosmetic dentistry, caps etc. What to watch out for, any drawbacks etc.
Thanks for any tips, or future articles.
Jared,

Life expectancy isn’t that much higher now than 100 years ago, IF you account for certain factors. Infant mortality was MUCH higher 100 years ago, so including this into the life expectancy drastically drops the average. If, however, you look at the life expectancy over the age of 18, things change. Sure, most native people didn’t live much past 60 due to the harsh conditions, but that’s a lot older than when a lot of people start seeing degenerative diseases.
I also hold the belief that nature knows best when it comes to things like this. People are meant to eat meat, fat, and plants, not processed foods, vegetable oils, refined wheat products, etc. If we evolved eating fat and protein, then why would it all of a sudden be bad for us? I remember hearing about reproductive problems of some big cat in a zoo, and it didn’t go away until they replaced the soy-based food with organ meats.
There is just too much wrong with kids today (ok, go for it. Make a joke about what’s wrong with me), like ADD, physical deformation and other problems (being really fat), poor vision, mental problems, etc. I think we need our natural foods to be healthy.
Besides, I think the only thing that is in question with native diets is the saturated fat content. Someone here mentioned a 1% increase in saturated fat in the diet increase CHD risk by 20%, meaning people like the Inuit or Masaii should be at about 600 or so percent greater at risk than someone eating the USDA recommended 10%. Why is it then these people aren’t dying of heart disease in their 30s, then?
Seriously, if you haven’t read Dr. Ravnskov’s book “Cholesterol Myths”, I would highly recommend it. It’s interesting how data is selectively used to prove a point, and how results can be massaged to show something that isn’t true.
Please don’t think I’m looking for an argument here. I’m really just trying to get my ideas out there. I appologize for comming on so strongly before.
Take care,
Neil
Jared,
Geeze, believe me or don’t about the deodorant thing. Sheesh, I don’t know why I say anything. Tell me this: If I indeed smelled from a lack of deodorant, why would I mention to you guys that I don’t wear it? Why would I lie about something as silly as that?

Re your observations about ancient civilisations being stronger in both physical strength and appearance compared to today’s society.
Not sure what time period your referring too, but it probably doesn’t matter. Children in those times would have died if they displayed traits that led to them being less likely to survive. Obviously strong jaw, cheekbones, nose, and general dominant features were more prevalent - because they were the only organisms to survive!
Now-a-days the weak individuals (fat, skinny, weak) are able to survive, simply because we don’t face the same dangers as historical civilisations. We also have a very good medical system which allows the terminally weak to survive also.
Obviously there’s merit in following a similar type of diet, but we don’t need to mimic the past to discover how to lead a healthy life.
“Life expectancy isn’t that much higher now than 100 years ago…”
This about sums it up.
Your ignorance and your willingness to put it on display are absolutely astounding.
Seriously, you cannot possibly believe all the bullshit you spew.
DocT,
Did you read the part about after 18 years of age? Big difference.
Neil
slimyxylofone,
That is true, but they also had more fit babies. One interesting thing is that the Inuit babies didn’t cry all the time, either.

Because I shave my armpits, I’ve found that I can go without deodorant for almost an entire day without a hint of odor. Obviously, if I’m active and sweating, I will begin to have some body odor, but for the most part, I don’t stink like many guys.
A friend of mine (very big black guy) said, “White boys stink!” I think he based that on the white boys in our gym who do smell horrible. It must be the lack of hygiene or something horrible in their diet. As I don’t smell anything like some of those guys!
Shave your armpits! And at least trim those damn pubes! And brush your teeth in the morning! That dragon breath is horrible!
Nate Dogg,
I trim my armpit hair, too. I guess that contributes to the lack of odor, too.

The Doc said…“Anal about Dental”…
This would lead to a whole new and much nastier result from “Open Wide”…
“Hey!, I can see your colon!”
“Doctors said that the test most commonly used to screen for colon cancer doesn’t go far enough. They’re recommending a procedure that involves photographing the entire colon. I say, don’t give CBS an idea for another reality show”
