Looking for a bit of advice here. We all recognize porridge oats as being a healthy, low-GI, fibre-rich source of carbohydrates, but I’m worried about eating too much of em.
I start the day with 100g oats heated with water, and usually have a bowl of around 90g oats with water again after a workout to re-fuel.
Is nearly 200g of oats a day going to create any health problems? Particularly I’m minded about constipation, as there must be a good deal of fibre involved, even though fibre is generally supposed to HELP constipation.
Thanks for any replies.
190grams of oats, that’s not an amount you should worry about at all. Plus, you basically answered your own question.
Horses eat buckets full of oats, and they poop with no problem… and can even sleep standing up!
Eat yer oats and stop worrying.
Now if you said you eat a box of Pop-Tarts every day, I’d say you’re overdoing it.
Well, I did chose to overlook the bucket of sherbert, crate of catfood and gallon of Pepsi
Thanks for the replies fellas!
Shouldn’t cause a problem 200g does not seem excessive and oats are a much better source of carbs throughout the day than a lot of food. Not sure it is the best postworkout food though.
Wait,… there’s something wrong with eating a box of poptarts?! (and here I am looking all hyooooge! -lol)

I would personally get burned on out that many oats (bout 2 cups?), but I have a low taste tolerance to them.
Make sure to drink plenty of water to help with the poops, and you should be golden.
I ate 300g oats today and felt great.
I seem to be very sensitive to a lot of foods and oats work very well for me, roatated with sweet potato and brown rice.
Just experiment, find your limits and what works well for you.

Lol, not all us fat kids can stay as lean as you, pop-tart-boy.
Lol, hey bro, when it’s diet time I count every last gram, and some days I was actually ingesting 5 bowls of oatmeal for my high carb intake… still, to be honest, I shuffled around a lot of calories (and a little suffering) so I could allow for the pop tart. I think it’s little things like a PWO ‘cheat’ that allow people to stay on such a stringent contest prep.
