Can one eat too much of a certain fiber? I am currently on a low carb diet, just eating protein, oats on certain days and all the green veggies I want. However I am still backed up. Could I be eating to much soluble fiber? or perhaps to much protein? I also take Glucomannan.
Drink more water?
…if you eat too much fiber, you’ll know. Because you’ll take 10 runny/boiling shits throughout the day.
Believe me.

I drink gallons a day
Well there are days I eat almost 3 pounds of brocolli, not including all the brussel sprouts, green beans, spinach, and zucchini. I was wondering if the problem could be the oats on the days I eat higher carbs. I believe most people cook them,I eat them raw with milk like cereal. Could the problem be that eating them raw is causing them to soak up all the water and expand in my stomach making me constipated?
There may be something else going on but, a couple months ago I went to the doctor for stomach pains and it turned out I was really constipated. I also eat oats like cereal(old fashion) and was taking Ibuprofen at the time the doctor said that Ibuprofen can cause constipation, and the oats did exactly what you said.
My parents always warned me about eating oats raw but, I prefer them that way. Have you ever left your bowl of oats sitting for a while? The suck up all the milk and thick.
Dude, get a fucking fiber SUPPLEMENT. Fiber Choice, Fiber One, whatever.
Yeah, you’re getting fiber from veggies and shit, but if it’s not working, IT’S NOT WORKING.
Water + fiber supplement throughout the day… hello toilet seat
Have you calculated your daily fiber intake? You should get thrity+ grams a day, and you may very well be getting fewer. Psylium husk is excellent for this, and has 0 net carbs per serving. Also, how much fat are you currently eating?
I am on the AD, and as a low carb diet five days a week I never have a problem with a movement. However, I eat plenty of fat (being the AD), and have actually found my movements have become quicker and cleaner, if you get my drift. So, one hypothesis is too little fat, which acts as a stool softener.
Since water is not an issue, and the oats are probably not either (I eat them raw and have done for three years without issue), (oh and btw how many oats do you eat at once and in one day?) I might assume there is some other problem.
Another hypothesis i might pose is a lack of probiotics in you digestive system, leading to intestinal upset. If you are indeed getting enough fat, fiber, water, etc. you might try a probiotic containing acidophiles (or however you spell it).
While not discussed to my knowledge, I feel this can be of great benefit to those on low carb diets. I myself began to experience some upset stomach symptoms, and after beginning to take a strong probiotic all such symptoms ceased entirely.

If you are backed up, you are not getting enough fiber. The reason for being backed up is most likely your switch to a low-carb diet. Most people encounter this during their transition, and it is entirely normal. The best fixed? Get more fiber, 20-30+ grams per day, drink tons of water, and consider adding a digestive enzyme. Your body will make the transition, just give it time.

No doubt I am getting atleast 30g of fiber a day the glucomannan and my daily brocolli intake alone is aroung 30 grams.
I will admit that I may not be getting enough fat. I drink around 2 gallons of water a day and take in over 30 g of fiber a day so if the raw oats is having no affect,m my fat intake may be the problem.
On the oats I do not eat them everyday but, when I do I eat a lot maybe 3-6 cups at a time. Oats with adding splenda and other things(banana, raisins, etc.) is my only cheat food.

Maybe look at both your fibre intake AND how much cellulose (or other indigestible material) you are taking in.
If a stick of brocolli weighs 200g, maybe 50 of those or less would have nutritional value, and probably 6-8 of them would be fibre (Pulling these numbers out of my ass btw), it makes sense to me that maybe although you are taking in a fair bit of fibre, you need even more to work with the sheer bulk that you are taking in. The 20-30g of fibre a day was made for the general public as a guideline, and they don’t eat nearly as much as we do. (Your vegetable intake seems to be an even greater outlier)
This is all based on the assumption that fibre intake should be proportional to the bulk of food consumed (I have no evidence for this, but it seems logical to me)
So Psyllium or another fibre supplement seems like a good idea to me, as they add fibre with no significant extra bulk. (Plus pysllium is both cheap as hell, and contains soluble/insoluble fibres, so you don’t need to overthink with it)
Try adding more olive oil to your diet. It will fit with your diet guidelines and help “smooth” things out. Plus it is heart healthy. I also recommend more fiber in the form of ground up flax seeds-good fiber and nutrients. You can add it to many things including your oatmeal. Try adding psyllium it always gets things moving for me (in a good way).
when i ate too much fiber, my asshole would burn and leak a bit all the time. this was like tons of ground flax, and about 2 cans worth of beans per day on top of all the whole grains vegetables and oats i was eating, easily over 100g a day.
Soluble fiber fills with water and moves slowly through your digestive system. It also builds up in your large intestine and prevents the absorption vitamin K and some B vitamins into your blood stream. This is why you shouldn’t eat too much fiber.
Fiber’s already been said, so I’ll add something else: if you’ve switched to a LCD, you have likely cut down on calories (and thus food) and switched to natural foods - lots of lean meats, fruit, and veggies. Eating less = pooping less. I noticed this when I switched too; I go every 1-2 days instead of once or twice a day when I’m on a LCD.
I know this was some time ago but, I have read a bit on the matter and thought I would share what I believe might be the problem. As it has already been stated low carb diets are usually going to slow you down, though you are getting in a lot of veggies the insoluble carb content in your diet is low. You might be taking fiber supps, but these are all soluble fiber which add bulk and slow the digestion process.
So, you are getting in the fiber needed to keep the stool bulky but you are not taking in the necessary fiber to move it along quicker. Wheat bran has 36 g of insuluble fiber per 100 g while spinach has 2g one of which is soluble. The problem is that there are no insoluble fiber supps, so low carb is most likely your problem.
^ Nice post
If anyone is interested I found a fiber supplement that is insoluble:UniFiber® - Fiber Supplement
i hate being constipated i usually just hold it in until i absolutely have to go to the bathroom then blow 5lbs of shit violently into the toilet
