Bench night: So, a day and a half prior I trained back and did a fair amount of volume on pull ups. Should have taken another rest day, as my reps/bar path/ and overall tightness suffered. Eh, live and learn. I still feel stupid for it though.
Video:
Warm ups: The usuall plus a copious amount of hot pink. I’m liking this immediately pre work out, though the cardio bunnies/“normal” gym dudes did look at me funny while I was rubbing myself with my hands down my shirt and grunting somewhat. Oh well.
Warm ups:
Barx20
135X10
225X6
75% 290X5
85% 330X3
95% 370X7ish. Again, bar path off, yada yada. Gotta be more careful with programming.
315X6 paused.
BB rows.
Lat strength went to shit by now, so:
135X15
225X5 for 3 sets
225X10 for 3 sets
The pump continues: DB bench rest pause style:
100sX22 RP X5 RP X4. Epic swolegasm.
Did a bunch of bicep curl/jm press drop sets with the fellow who spotted my 315X6 paused bench set. Pumptastic.
Cardio for 20 minutes. All steady state. Ok I suppose given my dumbassery.
Awesome to see some updates from ya buddy. Great training going on in here! Sounds like you had a great time with your friend. Great pictures!

Thanks dude. Yeah, it was a week since my last post huh?? Eh, time flies as they say.

Damn, yeah I guess it was a week. Time definitely flies, even though at times it does not seem like it. Glad to see all is well though. Love your videos man.

1/17/10 Squats and such:
So, my shoulders were not taking front squats well. With overhead pressing, benching, and front squating, something had to give. Besides, my back squat is rather pathetic and needs a lot of work anyway. So, bloated from the weekend in Corpus(I think I ate 5-7LBS of lasagna and drank an exessive amount of good beer and scotch) I did my last heavy day before a de-load.

Warm ups: The usuall. Nothing new.

525X0. Came out of the hole and spotter had to give me a boost. Dammit.
I am attempting to learn the slow decent squat, as I don’t think dive bombing is going to get me anywere further. I’m also trying to find a way to hit depth without butt-winking. I’ve got some work cut out for me. All tips/advice is welcome.

545X2 PR here. Was a grind, but it felt good.
Hack squats:

Leg prss:

Leg press calf raise:

Cardio: steady state incline walking for 20 minutes.
Goal for this deload is to get outside a bit and do some volume on sled work and running. Nothing too “hawdcoar” but something.
METAL: an oddity:
1/19/11
45 minutes of cardio:
15 on a rowing machine at a “brisk” pace. I was not sprinting, but was breathing hard. I guess brisk describes it.
30 on an incline treadmill with a few intervals thrown in at some odd times. Boring shit, its cardio!

Tips/Advice:
1-become a gearwhore like me. i am so proud of myself, bugAD called me one.
2-have you ever squatted wide stance? I know you are raw, but even raw you can go wider. It helps force the slow descent cause you cant divebomb wide IMO…that would rip me a new one.

#1… Not really the route I want to go at this point, gear just isn’t in the cards at the moment.
#2 I used to squat low-ish bar, wide stance. I took that a bit too far in the past and it was murder on my joints. I also had some depth issues there. I think what I will do is try to find a compromise between the two, as my current style isn’t going to cut it. Eh, we’ll see what happens.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.

1 - eh, just half serious, more bragging that i have now officially been called one haha.
2 - I am no expert, at all, but if you look at my stance on the reverse band squat, I tried to mimic the stance Jo Jordan (http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/training-logs.asp?tid=148&__N=Jo%20Jordan) used in one of his videos, and it felt pretty good.
Keep up the good work brother.
Squatted raw (while warming up) and in the suit with the narrow “Jo Jordan” stance, felt great and much more stable in the hole. Try it out.

Preach not to others what they should eat, but eat as becomes you, and be silent. – Epictetus
For fucks sake I am glad to be done with the deload. Cardio when not on a bike/running path or in the water is boring as fuck. It was a pretty cold, wet and nasty week, so just about everything was on a rowing machine or a treadmill thingy. Hopefully the weather gets better soon as I am sick of this indoors bullshit while trying to not get sick again.
Anyway… I tried the Golds in Bryan rather than College Station to see what was up, and low and behold, they have a MUCH better squat rack. Further, the spot pins and hooks are totally adjustable, so I am not stuck looking into some retarded mirror. The hole spacing is also much closer than the rack at the College Station Golds, and this one has DBs up to 150. Looking forward to overhead pressing those later this week. So it aint exactly a hardcore gym, but improvement noen the less. ok, enough of my rambling.
Squat night. I believe I have figured out my squat form. Max is currently 500, 90% ~ 450.
Video:
Warm-ups: 5 minutes of walking, some foam rolling, stretching, jumps and so on.
Bar X15 for 2 sets
135X5
225X5
Work sets:
75% 340X5
80% 360X5
85% 385X10 +5 with a good bit left in the tank. Taking my hands inward, a medium bar position(right on the bottom of my rear delts), and a medium width stance worked very well. Depth I am going to need to work on to be more consistant but I sunk them deep enough I beleive. I look forward to upping the weights with this over time. I still think I have a little bit of butt wink in the bottom, but hopefully I can fix that with some lighter form work later.
new fangled Powersquat machine thingy:
1 45 per side X5
3 P.S. X5
5 P.S. X5
7 PS X5
9 PS X5
11 PS X5 and the damn thing won’t hold any more. This was ok, as my hips were fatigued as hell by this point. You could tell by how fast my ass rose after rep 2. Anyway, I don’t know if this thing is useless or not yet. We shall see.
RDL:

On the whole I am quite happy with this.

Thanks dude. I will have to give that a look, though I had a bit of success this past night after mulling things over in my head for quite a while, and doing some reading.
Also, thanks for bumping this, as my hub won’t work at the moment for some dumbass reason, and I was not looking forward to digging for this.

Just watched your squat video, looks like you nailed it form wise, nice
The things a man has to have are hope and confidence in himself against odds, and sometimes he needs somebody, his pal or his mother or his wife or God, to give him that confidence. He’s got to have some inner standards worth fighting for or there won’t be any way to bring him into conflict. And he must be ready to choose death before dishonor without making too much song and dance about it. That’s all there is to it. – Clark Gable

Work sets:

85% 335X10 + 5 reps. I called it with a few in the tank as my arch started to really disappear by rep 10, and shit just didn’t feel as tight as it should have. I took my grip in two fingerwidths this time as an experiment and I am quite happy with it. Things felt much smoother and for those 10 reps, staying in the groove was a bit easier. My left side also did not feel as goofy. This last bit is the main thing I wanted to fix, the other things are just iceing on the cake.
