Well I do 800 repeats. 800 than one lap jog than 800 again. 6-9 times. I try to stay between 2.50" and 3.05" from first to last. I dunno if that helps u.
Tom Cruise does get on my nerves. Sometimes when he talks he seems ok, but than at other times you can tell that he is full of himself.
It does help and thanks for the response, agree with you on cruise I think many people are put off him by his scientology beliefs-ive read some weird stuff about it but ill reserve judgement until Im more knowledgeable about it- hes a decent actor i guess (born on the fourth of july)

if you’re gonna be running 400’s for conditioning and were wondering what a good time would be, i train with a guy who also runs track at a university, and we ran a 00.48 the other day.
that is way out of my league mate I was thinking that sub 60 secs (55 would be a good aim) would be cool. Ive been doing 2 weekly interval sessions
for the last few months (JB 30:90 intervals -10 to15 repeats on the treadmill @ 18km)so conditioning is decent. Im primarily doing this to get outside I hate running on the damn treadmill but this is England(manchester) and the weather is shite most of the year so thats the way it is.
It depends. I’m a terrible runner, so for me anything under 60 seconds is flying. Just run all out the whole way…it’ll feel like a 400 lb gorilla just jumped on your back on the last 100.
I kinda like the pain(im a bit weird)
where in the same boat mate, ill try not to be a hero-go hell for leather in the first 200 and then completely gas in the home stretch-im currently around 83kg @ 15% BF(damn body fat monitors they can be kind of inconsistent-sometimes the reading is 13%, sometimes 17%!!)so hopefully as I lose the BF ill get faster :)I wonder what Coach Thibs timee are?

I just got back from New Englands today, and the top time in the 400 was a 48.25. So anyone on this site saying they just go out and run sub-50s, unless they are in the top 90% of track and field sprinters as listed in the post above, is absolutely lying because the 400m dash is the hardest race in track and field.
V good post mate
It is damn hard taxing on both anaerobic(mainly) and aerobic energy systems but the rewards are well woth it; IMO sprinters have the most aesthtically pleasing look id like to obtain that look once again-ive got quite an athletic build but the BF side of the equation is letting me down I was around 7-8% last year but wanted to put more LBM on and my bulking phase was a bit of a disaster(went on a see food diet)went upto 17.5 % BF in the space 0f 5-6 months(got injured-out for a month so this didnt help)
Hopefully this summer can bring it back down <10% BF whilst maintaining LBM.
This is totally relative to how heavy you are and how fast you are. Just book it on the first or second rep (make sure you’re warmed up first) and try to beat that time or equal it with every rep.
Best time I ever ran was 59 seconds, LOL–but I was an emaciated long distance runner back then who never ran anything shorter than 300 meters in practice.
If you could rep sub-60-second 400s with 90-120 seconds rest between reps, I’d say you were a stud.
In a very non-Tom-Cruise kind of way.
Thanks for the advice. After the first few sessions ill aquire a better understanding of whether this is achieveable or not for me this summer.
Okay, I don’t like Tom Cruise, and no one else on this site seems to like Tom Cruise. But a time of 52.9 for 400 meters is outstanding based upon his age. The guy is well into his 40’s! Why is it that no one seems to think that being well into your 40’s and being able to run 17mph for 400 meters is a tremendous effort?
Let’s not let our complete distaste for this sissy boy actor blind us to the fact that that is one very impressive time based on his age!

Throw in a bunch of hurdles and it makes it that much harder.
i stand corrected, the 400 meter Intermediate hurdles is the hardest event in track and field, hands down.
and i wasn’t saying that people can’t run a sub 50 400 meter, i was just saying that it is almost impossible to do it if you don’t train for it and i’ve been running track for 6 years.

That’s right. My best was a 51. I could have done a little better, but I had to sit out a lot because I always pulled my hamstrings and had to rest instead of train. I bet I would have trouble even hitting a 55 right now.
I heard today on the radio that Tom Cruise said that he was clocked running 17mph for a quarter mile. Is that possible???
I read this in Arena (UK men’s mag) in an interview with Tom Cruise. He did it whilst filming for MI3, not on a track, in costume and make up along a dockside for a scene in the film.
Apparently his stuntman tried it but was slowing down at the end then Tom Cruise did it and clocked 16.8 mph.
The interviewer was saying that Tom was skipping and putting himself through a pretty punishing stretching routine between takes to keep warm.
He claims that he has been in hard training for this film for months, even back when he was filming War of the Worlds he was training hard for MI3, I think it is easily believable that he was in shape to do this.
Bear in mind that he is not a track athlete, does not train to be a 400m runner and is 40+ years old for fucks sake.
Comparing his time to a young ATHLETE who trains for the event and performs in perfect conditions on a track with a starting block and running gear (spikes etc.) and saying it is not impressive is retarded.
If the guy who just went out and did a 48 really can, then that is v impressive, two of my friends were university athletes running in the 2nd tier for Loughborough Uni (best uni sports and athletics in the UK) a couple of years back in the 400m and 400m hurdles and they would have been pleased with that time - and they were seriously fast by normal standards, not top level athletes but still seriously fast.
