TM79's Training Journal

Thanks Shane. It was indeed a good day of eating. Tacked on an hour surf session at lunch today so that helped shed some more calories. Even though most of it was sitting out there shivering and not actually surfing. :joy:

Comments: Feels like I have a mild ankle sprain this morning. It was hurting a little yesterday but I was able to work through it. It is a little bit worse today so I’m going to skip Deads.

Session: Nice and strong on OHP and Pull-ups. Probably had another set on each but had to take my daughter to school. Stopped at the gym for some accessory and a metcon on the way back. Done.

Nice work today Trent. That’s some solid OHPs and wow on those pull ups. Added 65 pounds on those is damn impressive.

Hope that ankles feels better quickly.

Metcon (from Dan Bailey)
Complete as many rounds as possible in 40 minutes of the following:
40 Band Pull-Downs (Sub for 40-Cal Ski ERG)
10 Strict Pull-ups
10 Strict Decline Push-ups
200-M LISS

Post Rounds Completed: 7

Comments: Woke up with my mind racing again around 3:30AM. Tossed and turned until 5:00AM and then got up. Out in the garage by 6:00AM for this. Ankle still hurts. LISS may not have been the best idea… Got this metcon from Dan Bailey and subbed some things. Got the blood flowing. Wish I had more time.

I was expecting to see some hand stand push ups Trent. :skull:

Haha. J/k man. Nice metcon!

Sorry to hear the stress is keeping you up at night.

An old saying that I like to refer back to when I am feeling overwhelmed.

They can’t eat you!

Ha ha, yeah, I bet you would like to see me do some handstand push-ups! :anguished: It would sure be entertaining, if nothing else. :joy: Yeah, Dan is a maniac! Honestly, I’d love to attempt some HSPU’s if I had the wall space and a nice pad on the floor for when my head comes crashing down on the concrete. It is about the equivalent of doing about a half rep of bodyweight overhead press. @hel320 might be able to pull that off but little people like me probably can’t do it. Would be fun to try at least…

I definitely wouldn’t be doing any handstand push ups either. :joy:

Nice ride today Trent!

Comments: Got my Apple Watch. The 5K row ended up being 168 cals on the watch and 302 cals on the rower. Not sure which is right.

Nice work Trent. Moving some big weights on those deads! Solid time on the rower as well. Not sure on the rower cals burned. I know minute per minute, the rower on the apple watch is one of the least calorie burning things you can do. I know in actuality, it feels like one of the toughest things to do.

Congrats on getting another apple watch.

Thanks Shane. I have looked at a few online calculators and I feel like the actual calories burned may have been closer to 200-220 for that distance and that amount of time (and BW). Thanks on the deads too. Felt good to go heavy. Probably could have flirted with 400 lbs but thought I’d quit while I was ahead.

For the watch, I bought a 45 mm Series 7 on Ebay for $285. It was supposed to be an open box with all the original materials (from Apple) but had been returned for some reason. They supposedly did a quality control check and it is good to go. I received it in the original packing and everything was still sealed. So this Ebay seller is either really good at resealing Apple boxes or I got a brand new one for $150 off. To me it looked brand new. Perfectly sealed and not a single scratch. Who knows? The only thing that was off was they sent me the “midnight” colored watch and band rather than the “abyss blue” that I had ordered. Ironically, I had seen the midnight color after I had ordered it and wished I had ordered that color instead but didn’t want to cancel/return the watch, so I guess the screw up worked out. :+1:t2:

That’s double bodyweight for you isn’t it. Good going.

Thank you, Sir. Yes, that is double bodyweight for me. I looked back and that actually tied my 1 rep max for that weight. Back in the glory days (about 8 years ago) I used to do sets of 3-5 at that weight on conventional deadlifts. The lower back won’t tolerate that anymore.

Precor Bike: 38:00, 10.20 Miles, ~400 Cals

Comments: This is a rest week for me. Got to the gym a little after 6:00AM this morning and did a bike ride. Ran out of time at 38:00 so that was it. My watch had me at 370 total calories. The bike had me at 430 so I split the difference.

That sounds like a steel for that watch, even better that you ended up with the color you were wanting. You must be doing something right. :+1:

Nice ride today Trent. Enjoy the rest week. :sunglasses:

Comments: The machine said 630 cals, which I agree, from an effort standpoint, seems pretty high. So I went with the watch. Done.

Nice workout Trent. Elliptical is good at burning the cals.

Boring as hell though. :joy:

Thanks Shane. Not doubt about that. There are only two of them at my gym and the ladies are almost always on them. Had to snag one since it was available. I was listening to a podcast so that helps the time go by… :sunglasses:

Precor Bike: 12 Miles, 45:00, 510 Cals, 143 BPM

Comments: Was up a few hours last night with stomach pain. Not terribly surprising I guess. Still hit the gym this morning for some calorie burning. Tried to keep the HR at a reasonable level.

EDIT:
Lunchtime Surf Session: Southend, Wrightsville Beach
53:10, 471 Cals, 125 BPM

Comments: Not sure where this swell came from. The buoys say it’s only 2 feet but those sets were every bit of chest high and really steep. Should have brought the shortboard but didn’t even think to. Caught a handful of waves. Most of them closed out. Ate it pretty good a few times and wish I had a video of that last one. I was riding the potato so it was way to thick for those steep drops. I just about laid down backwards to save that last drop, then pulled into the barrel backside only to get shut down and demolished in the washing machine. I came up laughing and just went in as I had to get back to work. Can’t beat 70 degree barreling waves in February.

Good to hear you are getting some surfing in. Weather was unreal down here today as well. Hated to be at work for it, but enjoyed it nonetheless.
