Comments: Good ride. That was definitely on the easier side. I rode a zone above and even that felt easy. Finally with about 1 minute to go I saw that I could make it to 15 miles if I could sprint 0.40 miles in a minute so I went for it. Got to 15 miles right as time expired. Done.
Going to Columbia, SC for work today and tomorrow so might hit up a hotel room metcon tomorrow morning.
Saturday, we went out on the boat with some neighborhood friends. We went out to a deserted barrier island for the day and hung out mostly on the sound side but also walked over to the beach side for a little while. It was an absolutely perfect day. 80 degrees, light wind, just gorgeous… We were hanging out with three other families. The kids were all having fun catching bait fish while the adults sat and had a few beers and listened to music. We are truly blessed to live where we live.

Comments: Getting back to it today. My plan is to start isolating muscle groups again for this cycle. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do in the gym this morning, so I walked in and looked at what other people were doing. Turns out they were doing upper body so I decided to do legs. Managed to sweat out a bunch of beer in there, that’s for sure.
Looks like a blast man. Definitely something I would enjoy doing myself. I actually sold my boat, all we have around here are lakes, and am pretty much just a pool guy now but I do miss the boat sometimes.
Leg day after a beach day drinking beer, great job man. That is a hell of a commitment!
Ha ha, thanks Shane. For the record it was a pool day drinking beer yesterday, but commitment nonetheless. We are fortunate enough to have a few friends in the neighborhood that have boats. There is no way we could afford one right now. If my wife goes back to work or I get a big raise we will definitely pursue it. We will probably go ahead and put our name on the waiting list for the marina as it usually takes 1-2 years to get a slip. It is a pretty sweet deal. The marina is a 5-minute drive from the house. They have an app so you select what time you want your boat in the water and they have it in the water when you show up. So you just unload your stuff and go. That island is about 10 minutes from the marina, so all in, you can leave your house and be at the island in 30 minutes. It is way more convenient than going to the beach and dealing with parking, etc. Then when you get back you unload your stuff, hose the boat down and then they put it back with the fork lift. We really need to get that going.
I’ve never been much of a lake person. The murky water and mud bottom just feel weird to me. lol
You are doing it right man. It is MUCH better to know someone with a boat than to own one.
I personally would probably never buy another one. I have found with expensive toys, minus a motorcycle, they are cheaper and less headache to rent than to own. I guess it depends on how much you use it though.
If you do decide to do it though you are right to get it in a marina. It really is the only way to do it if you can swing it. If not you are stuck dealing with boat ramp traffic and having to get your boat on a trailer and drive it home. Talk about a PITA.
Ha ha about the friends with boats comment. Very true. Recently one of my buddies just got a dog and now they are looking at getting a boat. I love both of those but can’t afford either. I told him you are my new best friend. Me and the kids will come ride along with you on your boat and we’ll even carry your dog onto the boat for you.
Most of the guys I know that have boats at the marina take them out at least once a week when it’s warm. Sometimes 2-4 times per week. Of course, they all like to fish too so some of those outings are just for fishing. This particular friend said that they don’t even take a vacation anymore so that’s how they justify the slip rental, fuel and upkeep on the boat. All in they are probably spending $1,000/month.
I would never do the boat ramp routine. Every time I’ve ever been to the ramp it is a total sh!t show. Definitely doing the marina if we get a boat.

Comments: At the beginning of the ride Olivia said, “If you want to PR this ride, go ahead.” You know you’re in for a tough ride after that. Ha ha… Well, it was certainly a tough ride, that’s for sure. I would say about 80% of my rides are 45 minutes so to get a PR by over 30 kj is really wild… There was sweat all over the place after that. Felt good to put my foot on the gas again after dealing with that ankle injury for so long.
Thanks Shane. I wonder if one of our Pelotons is out of calibration because I can’t see how I could be smoking you. I always notice there is no one in any of her classes. At least the 45-60 minute classes. I wonder if that is so no one has a heart attack or passes out on camera? Also, I’ve noticed that there is no way she is riding at that same pace/resistance. She looks like she isn’t even sweating and has no difficulty talking. My average HR on that ride was 165. LOL
They are excellent, IMO. A low impact form of cardio that you can push as hard or as easy as you want. Thousands of classes to choose from. Top notch customer service. Definitely worth looking into.
Really, cycling is one of those things that is a really good indicator of 2 things. Lactate threshold, and your ability to clear lactate. I don’t think I have a great ability to clear lactate. If you look at the Tour De France trophy podium no one on there screams I have legs that can produce the Watts they are putting out. Think about 400 watts average for 15 minutes at a time.
Hell, just hitting 400 watts, as you know, is a challenge. Now average that. It blows my mind really when I think about it. All that said though none of those guys really look like a bodybuilder or have huge legs. I bet they can rep 20 to 30 rep squats like no one’s business though.
I hear you on Olivia, she definitely isn’t riding the same watts she is asking the class too. If she is, she is one of those freaks that ride like the people on the Tour De France. LoL.
Yep, once in a while when they throw out numbers like 400 watts I simply can’t comprehend it. It seems like someone in decent shape should be able to average that for about 30 seconds or something. I remember a ride a few months ago where Matt Wilpers had us do all out sprints for small bit of time. We noted our output and then he told us what real cyclists can do and I was just floored…
