Just a bit of nuance. It can make your eyes tired over time so I usually do a blue light filter, but first thing in the morning is the natural way to wake up, and keeps the circadian rhythm.
I’m not entirely sold on the red light therapy stuff tbh. The only industry selling consumers more bullshit than fitness, is beauty. This lands firmly in beauty.
Assuming it works, you’d need something to put out red light over the whole area you’re trying to therapy. Maximum benefits would be whole body, so maybe a red light therapy mat or just getting a membership at a tanning salon. I enjoyed tanning, but would enjoy it more if it were at my house lol.
I order my injection form from a pharmaceutical company in india, because the US overly complicates things. I inject about 7k iu/wk, but its got near 100% bioavailability, whereas pill form is far less. Idk, 5000iu pill daily is probably fine if lacking sunlight.
If you dont mind doing injections, i can elaborate on ordering it. If you’d rather just do pill form, i wouldn’t blame you.
I live close to the Canadian border as well, and find time outside the best defense against winter weirdness. There are winter sports as mentioned above, but cheaper and presumably closer to home, the winter woods are beautiful for hiking or snowshoeing. I’ll put a couple of potholders in my pack to sit on with a raincoat to cover them so I can sit around outside during the walks or snowshoeing, and let the dog play. We have favorite spots for sunshine - groomed snowmobile trails that face us into the morning sun or an open spot in the woods that tends to have afternoon sun.
This constitutes cold exposure as well, I would imagine, and every bit of outside-in-the-winter-woods is fitness-friendly.
Too much time inside is as much the culprit as the constant dark when it comes to winter blues, I think. There’s nothing cheerier than coming in from the cold and snow (or light rain) into the cozy house.
I just moved back to a cold, dark area. I’ve always found fires to be helpful. A fire pit at night, with a real, non gas, flame. Something primal about it, I’m sure.
Gotcha. I’ve never done an injection, so I would likely mess up doing it. Maybe I’ll consider it down the line, but for now I think I’ll stick with the pill form! Thanks!
I agree! Excessive time indoors is definitely a player in depression and just a flat mood in general during the colder seasons. The past two days, I’ve been coming home from work and just sitting outside on my patio for 15-20 minutes. It also helps wind me down after a day in front of a screen!
