Tiny Freak Goes Ninja

oops and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

hope you eat at least a little cake

I LIKE BIRFDAYS!!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Just now heading out for a nice meal, and perhaps some birthday present shopping.

Today’s training was my very first hill run! Just exactly a year ago I started running. I had as a goal to run to a big hill (its an access road for a cell phone tower), run up that sucker and run back home. Today I decided to do it, and then had enough in the tank to run some sprints on the soccer field near my house.

And, my EliteFTS hanging ab straps came! My home pullup bar is too low to the ground to be able to do straight leg HLRs, but tomorrow I’m taking my new toy to the gym to really test it out.

Happy birthday! Hill runs are hard core and solid proof of how tough you are. Have fun with those ab straps.

Happy Birthday!!

Happy happy birthday!

Very nice of you to gift a hill run to yourself for your birthday, and great progress with the running for sure!

ooh you will have to take a vid with your new toy because i have no idea what you are talking about. glad to hear your run went well. happy birthday!

Happy birthday!!!

a hanging harness hun… Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes! Got a delicious meal, a nice glass of wine and some new lululemon as a pressie. All good.

alexus, here is a link to the hanging ab strap situation:

These straps from EliteFTS are good: bulletproof construction and comfortable to use. I’m a fan.

Yesterday’s training was bench day. I’ve reset my max on this substantially downwards after missing the money set all three weeks on the last go-round.

Bench press (5s week)
Bar 1 x 5
61.5# 1 x 5
71# 1 x 5
80.5# 1 x 6 <–money set, rep PR +2 although the last 3 were UGLY

In between sets, I did hanging leg raises with the new toy:
Hanging leg raises (sort of straight legs) 2 x 5, 1 x 6

I’m slowly seeing some improvement on these. When I first tried them, I couldn’t even do the bent leg version.

Bench Boring but Big
65# 2 x 10 <–these were REALLY hard and I just felt weak so I lowered the weight
55# 3 x 10

supersetted with

Kroc Rows
37.5# 3 x 10

and

Biceps Curls
15# 7/9/6 failing on my left arm first on all sets

Today’s training was a 5 mile run. First time using my new tech fleece running tights and I really liked them.

Congrats on the PR ugly or not it counts.

how cool! kinda like a roman chair but obviously you need to use much more stabilizer muscles in your shoulders and abs since they aren’t fixed.

i couldn’t do hanging leg raises with bent legs to start with either. god awful cramping in my quads. been working on raising my leg up when i’m standing. it is getting better…

i’d trade ab roll outs for a decent squat, too. wait… :-p

with the hanging leg raises… is one supposed to hold ones lumbar arch when one raises the legs (so the movement comes from the hip) or is one supposed to / allowed to flex the spine forwards?? i’ve wondered that about them for quite some time…

Happy belated Birthday Kimba!! Can’t wait to see the new lululemon

And congrats on the bench PR. Ugly or not - you moved the weight, and that’s all that matters. Nice work!!

We have those straps at our gym…maybe I’ll give them a try.

Yeah, I can’t get my feet up above parallel. Hrmm. I’m sure you’ll be able to, though, since you don’t have my meaty thighs.

Glad you had a nice birthday. Hope you’ll be modelling those new lemons for us, eh?

Any votes for red lingerie with a Santa hat?[/quote]

yes!

So whats the diff between a roman chair and the straps? I’m confused.
Of course I’m also kinda dumb…

Joe, when I mean ugly I mean butt-off-the-bench and completely-PL-illegal ugly. Luckily for me, I’m not a powerlifter!

alexus, I’m not sure about the answer to your question. I try hard to not swing my legs up. That is honestly all I’m thinking about as I do hanging leg raises!

Maschy, the new lululemon was a jacket and not sexy pants or shorts. Its a really nice jacket though!

Cal, I can reach parallel on the first rep and then it gets dodgy after that. It does improve with working on it. As everything does.

deja! Great to hear from you!

Hallowed, I don’t believe for one second that you are any sort of dumb. The roman chair is a contraption that supports your back and forearms while you lift up your legs. Also called a ā€œcaptain’s chairā€:

The reason I bought the ab straps was that my husband was wasting alot of time on this roman chair. Its not a hard exercise and he was doing 3 sets of 35 or so. So I bought the ab straps and challenged him to do as many reps on this, with his core totally unsupported. He could eke out 8-10. AND, his abs have been DOMSing for days! So, yeah. Its way hard than the roman/captain’s chair.

well then, ab straps it is!!

Huh, I didn’t even know ab straps were a thing. It does look pretty hard, one more ab movement for me to ignore, lol.

I missed the birthday, so Happy Belated!

I should record my Sunday squat day, but that seems so long ago. Still struggling on with both front and back squats. Nuf said.

I did try a weighted ab roll out with the 25 lb. plate on my back, but that only went about half way down before I realized this was too heavy. I’m also still unable to do an ab rollout from standing. But the ab rollouts with the 10 lb. plate are not that hard. How to rig up say a 15 lb. weight without stacking plates??

After a couple of weeks of eating more delicious bread and treats than usual, I took a few strict atonement days where I ate only lean protein and veggies. Turns out, starchy carbs still give me the bloat…a good 1-2 lbs. of it. Sucks. I love them, but don’t love the result.

Training tonight…MPs.

Back to work.

Ha! 1 to 2 lbs is not a bloat! Still, your dietary discipline is remarkable, and I very much admire it. HOpe training goes well tonight.
