The day after my 46th birthday, December 2, 2010, I decided I wanted to take up running. At the end of January, I injured my knee. I started back running again in March 2011 with 1 min run/1 min. walks. I’d work my way up to multi-minute runs, only to feel my IT band flare up again. Two steps forward, one step back.
The people around me gently suggested that perhaps running wasn’t for me. I did not listen. I knew I could do it. Never, ever give up.
Today I ran for a distance of 6.25 miles (a bit over a 10K) in 55:06. That distance was the goal I was reaching for when I could only run for 1 minute at a time. The decent time is just a bonus. On to the next goal: a nice, fast 5K Jingle Bell Run!
Short but productive Friday night training. Fried my lower back, just like I wanted.
Pull-throughs (the squat rack was taken)
47.5# 1 x 10
Good Mornings (Sumo Stance)
Bar 1 x 5
75# 1 x 5
85# 1 x 5
95# 1 x 5, 1 x 6 <–PR +10 lbs.
I’d like to get a bit lower on these, but I’m more about trying to mimic my sumo deadlift back angle carrying lots of weight than full range of motion.

I love that you didn’t take no for an answer. It might not have been easy for you but you did it slowly and properly and reached your goals.
I have the same relationship with math. lol…
One of the most important things I’ve learned in life is to give an great big FU to people who tell you that you can’t do something.

Wow! This hit me as sheer brilliance! Makes sense, Kimba. Smart training.
Looks like youre on a training upswing on all levels. Awesome! I love when things come together.
Keep up the great work, you tiny, powerful freak, you!

YES! Oh, I’m so excited for you. It’s so great to see perseverance pay off. Congratulations.
Oh, and you are so very, very good at dips!! So jealous! But I like how you start with a higher weight and then lower it, kinda drop-set-like. I might start implementing a similar method for my pullups. Thanks for that!
And weighted ab roll-outs?! Damn! That’s good stuff. I’m impressed you can keep the plate on your back while you roll-out. That must mean you’re form is spot on. Good work!
Happy Thanksgiving!! Enjoy the friends and family and delicious noms

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words. I know running isn’t the main squeeze around here, but I really appreciate all the support.
Joe, I CAN NOT BELIEVE its Xmas singing time again. Where did the year go?
Hallowed, aren’t you sweet? I’ll only be 46 for another week, so I’m enjoying my last moments with it.
Upscale, I doubt another Santa hat photoshoot will take place. I’m not much for repeating myself.
kmc, the word “hinge” is actually a great cue! Thanks for that.
Life is hectic – I’m cooking the thanksgiving deal and I’ve got houseguests for the week. This is Sunday’s training:
Bench deload
45# 1 x 5
50.5# 1 x 5
60.5# 1 x 5
Leaving plenty of energy for…
Dips! (god, I love dips)
BW +15 1 x 11 <–rep PR +1
BW +10 1 x 11 <–rep PR +1
BW +5 1 x 16 ← rep PR +1
Ghetto t-bar row
45 lb. plate 1 x 10
55 lb. plates 1 x 10, 1 x 12
supersetted with
1-armed DB Chest Presses
27.5# 3 x 10, each side
supersetted with
Cable hip ad/abductions
Ab roll-outs
10 lb. plate on back 1 x 10
I liked the plate-on-back arrangement. The next size up is a 25 lb. plate and that would be CHALLENGING.
Maschy, I only start my dips with the highest weight when I’ve already warmed up my upper body with some other exercise. I did rest in between sets, so it wasn’t really a drop set.
Joe, how exactly is an elf hat so different than a Santa hat? Is it stripey?
Frenchie, its been too long since I’ve taken out my dip belt for some action. Its time!
brute, git suggested weighted ab rollouts as a fix for my lower back rounding woes on deadlifts. So far, I’m really liking 'em.
lula, dips are not everyone’s cup of tea. For some strange reason I’ve always been good at them. For the weighted ab roll-outs, I ask my husband to put the plate on my upper back right before I start to roll. So far I’ve been able to keep it on there without an accident!
Thanksgiving groceries bought for: turkey breast, bacon and apple stuffing, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, homemade cranberry-orange-ginger sauce, salad, asparagus, almond cake, Triple Chocolate Mousse cake. Luckily my sister is a great baker cause I suck at that.
