Hi, Just watching your vids. Regarding the knee cave. In the first vids i watched ( you are in a black vest and shorts).I see that you are squatting with vibram’s, it is noticeable on the way up from the hole that you are pushing with the inside of your feet, you turn your ankle inwards. Similar to a flat footed person. The general rule is that you should be pushing down on the outside of the foot.
If you watch the vid closely you will see that it is the first thing you do before rising. Maybe you could try to turn your ankle out so you are not flat footed. It is harder to see in the 3 other vids as you are wearing training bottoms and it took me a while to see that you have vibrams on.This is why i went back through your log.
When you push up on the outside of the foot it is easier to press the knees out. I maybe have'nt explained myself properly. I don't usually comment, but if i was in the gym with you i think i would have you sorted in one session.
Another thing while im here, i think you have the bands ABOVE the knees and not below the knees to fire the hips. Maybe it is worth checking out the Westside training tips?
Snapper, indeed it makes no sense that sumo pulling doesn’t cave my knees but sumo-squatting does. Maybe someday I can unlock that mystery.
Nobby, I really appreciate your suggestions. Next squat session I will really try to press on the outside of my foot. I’ll also play with foot position (haven’t thought about that for awhile). On the banded squats, the band is below my knee, but only just. I can try lowering it a little bit to be sure. I’m always up for trying something new, cause the old stuff isn’t working so well.
ironcross, thanks! I work super-hard on this butt and appreciate the love.
Today’s training was a successful run. I say “successful” because I did 5 min. run/1 min. walk x 4 without any knee pain. Breaking through the 5 min. run threshold is a big deal, because that is where I got stopped dead in my tracks doing the Couch to 5K program. I am actually contemplating trying a 6 min. run interval next time. Happiness is a good run!
I am also continuing to work hard on my weak-hip rehab. Last night I did monster walks side-to-side, banded hip ad/abduction work, side-lying clams, and used git’s suggestion of spreading my knees against band tension. I could only do the last for 40 reps before getting really tired. Making my way up to 100 reps is a worthy goal.
Hi, Again,
I did say that i might not be explaining myself very well. What i meant with the bands is - They should be ABOVE the knee to fire the hips and not below as you have them. Please try that at your next session.
I pretty much sit on the sidelines in this thread and ponder “should I say that, nahh, better not”. Please refer to exhibit A, the recent Kimba vids above this post. No comment.
OK, fine…I love nipples. But that’s all I’m saying.
And a finely shaped ass. Attached to firm, shapely legs. Please refer to exhibit A. OK, I’m done.
Hai Kimba.
This, you always want to make sure that the appreciative comments don’t seem disrespectful of the work being done.
x2. It’s difficult to compliment beautiful women without seeming to denigrate their accompishments.
I can’t tell you haw many comments I’ve typed, only to delete without posting after thinking better of it.
(Case in point, I thought better of my initial comment about your butt in the videos above…)

Glad to hear the running continues to progress.
Some women adore compliments while others will tar and feather a man who says anything about her physique/appearance. It’s tough for men, I’m sure, not knowing which camp the woman is in. Of course it doesn’t diminish a woman’s efforts to say she looks good, though some women read it that way.
Nobby, above the knee – got it. I’ll check that out next time!
Cal, I know better than to look ahead too far. I usually get slapped down when I get too greedy. I’ll take 6 good minutes in a row for now.
ManFromMA, feel free to compliment my butt anytime. Sometimes those sort of think-twice-but-post-anyway comments are the difference between a completely shitty day and a hey-its-not-so-bad day. I’m easily made happy, apparently.

In case anyone is wondering, I am firmly in the compliment-whore camp.
Glad the running is going well. Thats one of the things I hope to pick back up when I can again.
See if you’re a girl its simple and always taken well. But if you’re a guy you have to phrase things well because nobody wants to be that slack jawed gastropod who wanders into a thread and posts “Dat ass” before wandering back out.

True.
And I think MiM has the very fine looking ass of a woman who trains hard and eats right.
There, I said it.
Betty, thanks! I hope the running thing will be easy for you soon.
Joe, if a guy can spell “gastropod” and use it correctly in a sentence, the chances are infinitesimal that he will ever be “that guy”. But I do completely understand that walking this line is hard for men and easy for women. I mean, if I wandered into your thread and posted “dat ass” you’d be nothing be happy. Maybe I’ll just do that.

Cheers to the 5 min barrier coming down–and continued steady progress. Your persistence and patience is tres admirable! I fully expect the running gods to reward you.
I might have mentioned this to you before but have you tried sprints. Not as part of intervals or anything but instead as just sprint-rest-sprint-rest-sprint-rest-sprint etc?
I have the knees of one and forty year old arthiritic old man but sprinting always seemed to help my knees for longer runs.
I wanted to ask what junior mint asked about unilateral movements and knee cave
and I noticed what nobby mentioned - about your feet rolling in- at least your right one.
sometimes mine do too, and I suspect its glute activation- for me
