This is out of hand. The guy in this picture:

isn’t tiny. He is probably bigger than most of the people on this site and was squatting a claimed 500lbs. For someone to kick him out for grunting is ridiculous and it is pretty damn sad that anyone supports it happening regardless of whether they are making it a comfortable place for near-sedentary individuals. I personally wouldn’t train there and I hate the way many gyms are going on these same terms. The “Q” fitness facility was the same way, going even more overboard by requiring you either wear a large tee-shirt when training (because tank tops made the fat people feel inadequate) or they would make you rent one…either that or leave. They are no longer open in Houston. I can’t say I’m sorry it didn’t work out.
Gyms aren’t supposed to be places for people to hang out, relax and barely train. The Gold’s gym near me is becoming the same way. They have a juice bar and serve coffee. Every time I go in, people I have seen for over two years now look exactly the same or worse and stand around talking instead of lifting weights. I get stared at like a circus freak just by walking in the front door because so few people there actually look like they lift weights.
I could care less about fat people “finally” moving just to go to a gym like that. In the long run, all they are doing is alienating those who do take this seriously when it should be the other way around. I don’t go to Nascar in a go cart that only goes 20mph and expect them to tone it down and allow people in go carts to race.[/quote]
They had their terms clearly labled. He chose to join anyway, thats his fault. Did he think they were just trying to be cute?
I think once you see a place doesnt have a squat rack, and are serious about lifting, you turn around and leave.
You dont sign up and hope they change their rules to suit one customer. That wont happen.
