Three Pullups to Keep Your Job

The three pullup test for the women in the Marines was supposed to take effect this year and is now being delayed as they have found that half the women would fail out.

How hard is it really to train for a set of three pullups to keep your job? Soccer moms are busting out muscle-ups at the local Crossfit box while Marines can’t do three pullups? I’m afraid I can’t help but let this news influence my view of our current military. I always thought the women joining were at least athletic. From the pictures in the articles I now understand them to be women who are overweight, weak, and have never played a competitive sport. This can’t go on much longer, can it?

So, one of my last female clients was in the Army, and couldn’t do a single pull-up. Less than two months later she did 3 dead hang pull-ups (hands facing away).

Just sayin’.

Pull ups are like anything else, practice them if you want to get good at them. With a relative lower body weight than guys, it shouldn’t be that hard of a challenge. I can do 3 easily at 240 lbs. I can imagine any woman at 120 lbs should be able to do them with some training.

Its definitely a misconception that anyone who survives basic training is as strong as heck. My weak older brother went into the Army 30 years ago, they extended his basic by 2 weeks for him and a few others that couldn’t do 1 single pull up. He put in his 20 and did well, making rank of staff sergeant and saw combat in Kosovo. If he could do it, anyone has a shot at it.

When politicians run the military, it’s a fucking disaster. Period. We need less political correctness and more code reds.

Agreed. A platoon of soldiers should not be killed because Suzie couldn’t throw a grenade more than 8 feet.

I don’t disagree, I actually think the 3 pull-up issues is fucking sad and pathetic, but have you seen some of the twats that enlist these days…

I can only imagine, soon the military will be offering Spanx in camouflage.

One female at my unit didn’t pass a pft for 4 consecutive years. Not only did she get promoted (twice) but when she did finally pass it was because she lied when giving her numbers. Not saying that problem is only relegated to females but when you can’t even do the dead hang for 10 secs? Come on.

At the same time there are jobs in the military for which fitness really doesn’t matter. It’s not like SF is going to be changing its standards.

Females will be in special forces units within the decade.

Yeah, you say that now.

But, but, but who else is qualified to defend the land mass called the United States of America? Are you talking about letting people with military expertise run the military? That could never work. Obviously we need politicians to run things they know nothing about, because they run it now, so obviously nothing else could work, because this is how it works.

You might slip into the belief that we don’t need politicians to control us if you’re not careful. I mean, first you believe that folks with military expertise can run the military, next you’ll say that people with road-building expertise can build roads. Then you might start to believe that people can agree on an arbiter to help them settle disputes, or that people can protect themselves. [/sarcasm]

I think I may work with one person other than me male or female who could do three pullups to keep their job

Is your job considered a combat role?

Was making a joke.

I was sort of disappointed in the strength standards of the Corps for men as well. When we got moved to pendleton the pullup bar in our barracks was torn off the wall, since the final PFT was already done by that point, the Drill Instructors really didn’t care that we didn’t have a pullup bar, but I wanted to do pullups during the hour of rec time we had, or instead of going to church on sundays.

I know for recon guys they have to carry a dumby that weighs like 185 lbs for several miles between a squad. I also remember carrying the ammo can for longer than normal periods because some of my platoon mates were a little weaker. How much awesome would a STRENGTH program go with that skinny fat spinning conditioning program they had when I was in? Where we would run a couple miles in the morning and do pushups and shit while getting smoked? All I know is, Marines should squat and be able to lift weights overhead.

They have martial arts implemented, now time to get the ladies into shape.

The new CFT is a step in the right direct. I never had to do it though so I can’t comment any further than that.

3 miles and crunches are plain dumb in my opinion.

You all had an hour of rec time, must be nice…Damn west coasters.

Didn’t see the smiley face. Sincerest of apologies.

More importantly, when was the last time they did a “desk pop”?
