Fat, Out Of Shape, Cops!

Absolutely Pathetic! The test is so basic and easy to pass yet they are fighting it. Talk about disgusting!

Of course they’re fighting it. The average cop I see around here has a waist closing in on 50" and enjoys every free food perk of the job. I didn’t know buttons on a shirt could be that strong. Clearly they are also made of Kevlar.

If they truly cracked down on the overweight ones, the force population would drop by 80%.

That’s not so crazy. Try this, the USBP currently allows management to use the gym on-duty for three hours per week. They have offered to allow the bargaining members the same deal, without any strings attached. No testing, no disciplinary, not a requiremtent, just use the gym if you want.

The National Border Patrol Councel says no. Reason? They don’t want the USBP to create a standard of physical fitness.

Unreal.

DARE, to keep cops off donuts…

I know your reason for posting this is you despise the police for some mysterious reason that I could care less about.

But in this case, you are right.

Yeah it’s the same in my town also. I work with a lot of cops everyday and consider most of them friends. I’ll ask them how their workouts are going and they just laugh like I said something in another language. There are a select few that stay in shape but I would say that at least 40 to 50 percent are obese and a higher percentage would be considered at risk and overweight.

They kick you out of the Army if you are overweight, or cannot pass a physical fitness test. Why should police departments be any different? If they can’t run a couple of blocks to catch a crook, or haul their fat butts over a fence, then they are not able to do their job…

I don’t understand why anyone pursuing a career in this field would allow themselves to get so outta shape. For some desk jockeys that may not be as big an issue but for guys on the street where your poor condition may cost you your life, hmmm.

It could also be a reflection of the age of the particular force. Almost all the officers I see in Toronto appear to be in good shape, but most of them are fairly young. I’m sure there are FOS officers as well here somewhere.

They aren’t overweight. They’re bulking.

poor condition can cost you your life in any profession, but most people ignore that too …

Ahh, unions…

what once was a great idea, a beacon for equality, has now turned into one of the many special interest groups destroying democracy today.

i’m all for the fitnees standards, but i think they should also factor in age to the height/weight ratio. i don’t think a fifty year old cop needs to be as fit as a twenty five year old.

They do the same in the military. the standards are relaxed to some degree for a 30 year old compared to a 20 year old. This shouldn’t be that complicated and, to tell the truth, it should never have gotten that out of hand to begin with. We aren’t talking about being just a little out of shape. Many of these guys I see are flat out obese and seem to be breathing hard into the intercom as they buy more cheeseburgers at the drivethrough.

yikes. I am in Iraq and see thousands of soldoers per day. If they are kicking out overweight soldiers there is no evidence of that in my eyes. I have seen PT being done once in a year, but I do see soldiers in the gyms. The norm is that it is passing time. There are some strong ass MoFO’s too. They are the exception. In my observation, it is the female soldiers that are worse by far.

The military has relaxed its standards because of the pool of applicants. You can’t just close down the military so you have to let the fat ones in considering there are just so many people who are overweight now. I’ve seen some truly fat and sloppy looking women enlisted and I can’t understand how they got through basic.

This is true, sitting at a desk while growing a boiler isn’t the best way to prolong one’s life.

If there was a chance that me having to sudbue a bad guy, hypothetically speaking(I’m not a cop), could cost me, I’d want to make sure I was able. Cops should be in top physical condition, so should firemen, paramedics as well other service personelle.

I am a cop and agree that the shape a lot of cops are in is pathetic.

We have been trying to get a new PT test in place for years with no luck.

Our department is fairly young with a lot of in shape/athletes on the force, not nearly as bad as other departments.

I am one of the older guys at 40 but continue to stay in shape and compete in powerlifting and plan on hitting a bodybuilding show next year.

Thank god for cops like you. Unfortunately you’re not the norm.

In my town we have a fat female cop who is under 5ft. Not a meter maid, a fullblown beat officer.

LOL at “fullbown”.

And she was probably sworn in “to serve and protect”. I gotta wonder if she would actually give up that drummy if shit went down. LOL!!!
