Three Days A Week Program

Take your 2 cents all day, thanks JT. Tough to get old and inflexible. Like a lot of people, I can 3/4 squat a ton but ass to the grass shows my real weakness.
Deads tonight.

Just read in interesting article at powerliftingwatch.com. Says don’t jump to wide stance right off. Add a couple inches every few weeks. Think I started to wide to soon. Going to bring my stance in and slowly progress to a wider stance.

Looking forward to following your progress into your meet, Eco!

Geech, are you back for awhile?

Back in the saddle again, both at work and in the gym!

If you’re going to go raw, you might not take your stance as wide as an equipped lifter. Brian Siders, when he lifts raw (he’s usually an equipped lifter) brings in his stance to more of a medium one. He still turns his feet out, though, which shortens the moment arm front to back and which is what squatting wide does. I’ve found it helpful myself, but it definitely uses more quad strength. Matters more for long-legged lifters, I think.

No long legs here. Years of leg press and no squats has made me quad dominant.
8/18
deads 355x5(75%),380x5(80%),405x5(85%)
deads 240(50%) 5 sets 5 reps **
military 175x5(75%),185x5(80%),195x6(85%)
hanging leg raises 5 sets 10 reps

**the workout calls for 5 sets 10 reps with 50% of max. But even with this light weight I had to stop at 5 reps. I hate doing deads with more then 3 reps. I forgot to take my wedding ring off before I did deads yesterday. On my set with 380 my ring tore my skin on my finger. Hurt like a bitch.

My wife surprised me yesterday with a new belt and knee wraps. When your wife buys you a new belt thats love.(or you might be a red neck)

fixed that for you.

Never mind me - I’m just jealous and bitter.

To funny skid. The thing is my wife is clueless about lifting and could care less about it. She showed up at max muscle 101 (a real store) and said my husband powerlifts and needs a belt. One hundred dollars later she walks out with a belt and knee wraps.

8/20
bench 310x5(75%), 330x5(80%), 350x3(85%)
bench 5 sets 205
one arm db row 5 sets
curls 3 sets

Is a push-pull event bench and deadlift only?[/quote]

That’s right ecogenx. I’ll echo what s couple other guys said and tell ya to do a raw meet first. Frankly. I’m not really interested in knowing how strong I am with a shirt or a suit. No offense to those who use them. I think many meets offer an equiped and unequiped division.

Thanks DZ, thats what I’m doing. Besides both kids have hockey games the day of my meet so I’ll going it alone. No way I could get the suit or shirt on by myself.
I’m a little disappointed with my bench. Was hoping to get 350x5.
The check is in the mail for Oct 11. Its APA and I can use a belt and knee wraps and still be raw.

Good luck, training is looking good.

Is a pendley row just a BB row?

The pendlay row is NOT “just a BB Row.” It’s a specialized rowing movement requiring the best in Rastafarian attire, crushed rose hips and proper alignment to magnetic north in the warm months and alignment toward the planet Venus in the winter months. To perform the pendlay, roll your eyes inward toward your nose, swallow your tongue while grasping the bar. The first two fingers have to be crossed on each hand, so the amount of weight you can use will be limited. Now pull it to to your abdomen, next time to the collarbones - that’s one rep.

Yeah. It’s a barbell row. The bar rests on the floor between reps. You are allowed to use leg drive to bring the bar to the torso. “Invented by” Glen Pendlay.

Skid, you know I don’t do any exercises with fancy names like pendlay or zercher. Mine are easy:squat, bench, etc. like a caveman or a red neck.

Thats a super gift to get as a powerlifter. My wife doesn’t even have a clue about the gear either.Your bench training is looking strong.Nice work!!!

thanks JT. My wife’s a keeper.

squats tonight. Gonna keep my feet closer together on the heavy sets and widen with the lower weights.
