Three Days A Week Program

The vastus medialis (teardrop) is responsible for helping lever you out of the hole on deep squats along with the glutes, which at a certain height take over the majority of the job. But that boy has a lot of work to do at the bottom.

Using knee wraps can create a fulcrum behind the knee at full depth that can actually lever the knee joint apart, depending on how it’s wrapped.

I was only kidding with that “pussy” comment…

Take care of the knee.

Thats OK skid you can pick on me…sob, sob.

But really, what is your opinion on this. Stretch and foam roll(which I have no clue how to do) or what. Just squat a lot without support?

Squat a lot without support, squat wider, squat light sometimes (30%-50% intensity) for higher reps which takes some of the stress off the knees and more on the glutes.

In fact, close stance body weight squats can help a lot, just getting blood through the joint. Aids healing IF THERE’S NOTHING STRUCTURALLY WRONG in there. Arthritis and the like.

Thanks skid. Difficult for me to swallow my ego and put smaller weights on. Always the heavier no matter what mentality for me.

That’s whenyou go for more reps than you’ve ever done. 135 may not seem like much.

Until you do it for 5 minutes straight.

Save the wraps for your heaviest sets, singles and doubles, might help some.

Found a cool site that some of you may already know- stronglifts.com. It has everything from routines to stretching to diet.

I hang my head in shame. I’m adding an extra bench day at least every other week. One bench day a week doesn’t seem to be enough. I thought about just adding it to my deadlift day but that makes my workout to long. So the name of this thread is for now incorrect.

bench 315 5 setsx5 reps
chin 5 sets 3 reps with 25 lb db btw legs
military press 135x17 (failure)

So - just edit the original post and see if you can change the title of the thread.

Nice work!

Did 40 minutes of a 60 minute stretching video last night. It was comical some of the stretches I just cant do. Going to do deads tonight and finish that video.

Eco, whats your thinking with the second bench day? Are you doing a heavy day and a light day? What’s your thoughts on how the second day helps?

I guessI really need to take the time to read back thru your log, you probably already explained it…But I’ll admit I’m a lazy ass.

In the past when I got my bench to over 400 lbs I was benching 2-3 times a week. Now a days I worry about over training and all this CNS stuff. But my bench has never moved this slowly so I’m going back to a couple days a week. One day will be a free for all what ever I want to do. A couple years ago I benched 415 once and 405 twice, now 390 for one. Pissing me off.
J, its tough reading these long threads to catch up. Please don’t waste your time reading my old stuff.

I see the long threads as a double edged sword. What was written 4 months ago might have a different perspective today.

I think you have sound reasoning and it makes sense to me.

Regardless I’m still a lazy ass when it comes to reading thru the old stuff…

I find the upper body muscles need more frequency when it comes to lifting heavy weight, and the people that talk about cns and overtraining are usually doing super high volume like GVT, which would be hard to do heavy 2,3 days a week.

I agree with you airtruth.

Ok I’ll admit my ignorance in a minute. What is cns and GVT?

Educate me!!

central nervous system

gvt is german volume training. you pick a weight, roughly something you can do 20 reps with and do 10 sets of 10 reps with it.

If you call yourself stupid or ignorant again I’m gonna beat you(at least try to). I didn’t know any of this stuff either until a year ago when i found this site.

OK OK Your a helluva lot bigger than me…

In my field cns is Chip-n-Saw…So I was really wondering! Plus I was questioning my 1 day a week schedule on the bench sessions. This has been a good informative aside…

Anyone remember godzilla? My kids still like godzilla. We have over 10 movies and have the action figures. I used to love Creature Double Feature.

As always, a model of efficiency and efficacy, Eco. Your thoughts about adding a bench day are winning me over.
