It happened to me once also. The gangster situation here is pretty bad too, but most of them are just some punk kid wannabes and don’t belong to any real triads. I did the smart thing and handed him my wallet. And just when he was about to reach out and take it, I dropped it on the floor grabbed his wrist and flipped the mother fucker over so hard I think his arm broke. But, I have a 1st dan in aikido, so maybe that helped.
not to hijack, but my personnal preferance for street fighting is ju-juistu

Thanks, appreciate it. I’ve been training aikido for 7 years. But I have stopped it completly because I feel I’m starting to use more brute force to execute the moves which shouldn’t be the way.

Last night while I was leaving the gym at about nine taking a friend home a little punk junior high kid started pestering me about some spare change that had falen out of my pocket. I told him to shutup, and as I started to get into my truck he produces a knife and makes a motion like he is going to slash the back tire on my truck. I tell him I would hammer him if he did it, and he threatened back I would be dead if I tried.
Has anyone else ever had a problem like this. If so or if not, what would you guys do in this kind of situation? I’m either going to try and handle it like a christian and try to talk to him about it or thrash him and humiliate him the next time I see him. ( I think he plays b-ball in the gym often, though I’ve never seen him before.)
I did call the cops, filed a report, etc. By the way, the “shut up” was to stop the pestering of who i thought was just a little kid trying to be “cute”. It wasn’t until he pulled the knife that things got heated up. I talked to a person who works in the local courthouse, who happens to be the father of the friend I was taking home that night, and he said that someone pulling a knife is enough of a threat to where I can justly defend myself. So if worse comes to worse, I won’t be considered an attacker. But like some of you guys said, it is kind of in my nature to be the better man and just walk away.

What exactly was this whole “change out of my pocket” situation? Lots of holes in that part of the story. Filling it in would give us a better idea of how it led to the whole knife incident.
Don’t give him the satisfaction of a confrontation.
Remember, he wants to get your hackles up - don’t give himm what we wants. Immature brats seem to only quit their antics when they ignored.
Of course you could always flatten him in self-defense, but don’t get overconfident - if he gets one lucky swipe with a blade, it doesn’t matter how much bigger or older you are.
But, like someone said, alert the police immediately - a fool like that might need to validate himself by intimidating someone weaker or older, and the sooner you put someone on his tail, the better. Cops don’t like junior high kids with knives.
The best way to handle this, would be to turn the other cheek in your best cristian manner and then when you regain your senses inform the little shit, that if he doesn’t get out of your face, you’ll rip off his head and shit down his neck!
Road Warrior - “rip off his head and shit down his neck”! That sounds like an old “Full Metal Jacket” quote from Gunnery SGT Hartman! Damn, I love that movie. I wonder how Gunny would have handled that situation? I think he would have dropped that little punk-ass vagrant to his knees, and said: “Now, lean forward and choke yourself”!

Want to try something fun? Turn the tables. Tell them to give you a dollar.
Turn on them realy quickly say “NO, You give ME a dollar Motherfucker!”, and start balling up your fists as you move your hands into a position to punch. You probably won’t get any money, but the look on their face is priceless.

that’s great!
if i was an asshole, the next time those kids are selling cookies outside the grocer and they ask me if i wanna buy some i’ll reply, “no, but if you wait here about ten minutes i’ll be back with a few cans of chili that can be all yours for 5 bucks a piece.”
For those of you who doubt my story, it isn’t a lie. I just wanted to know your opinions on what happened. Since it happened, I have informed everyone I run into at the gym about the incident, and their hasn’t been any trouble since. As for the people who doubt or don’t understand the story, the change fell out as I was putting my wallet into my pocket. Earlier that day I had been wearing shorts with no pockets and I had put the change into my wallet. I don’t like working out toting a wallet, so I had put it into a locker along with my keys. Also, it may explain some things to the doubters that I live in a farming community of about 4000 people, it’s not a common thing that kids pull out knives on you.

Like people are just pulling knives out on the rest of us? One thing you need to understand is that some of us expect trouble and try to avoid it before it occurs. That is what keeps you from looking like a “mark” and getting taken out by some kid who sees you as a target. It’s all great that you thought you were safe from that, but the reality is, “We didn’t expect something like this to happen in Columbine!!!” But it did.
I still don’t understand your story BECAUSE THERE ARE GAPS. I grew up in a fairly rough neighborhood which is why I am asking questions…that you haven’t answered yet. What actually happened between your change falling out and some kid pulling a knife? What was said that caused you to tell him to “shut up”?
The “PC” response is “go tell the police!” The reality is, in cities where this actually happens or has the potential to happen, the police are not called every time there is a threat made outside of an establishment. That is why people carry their car keys in their hand instead of fumbling for them in their purses or pockets at the car door. It is why people are aware of their surroundings in an empty parking lot. I mean, you even had someone with you and this still happened? Something isn’t making sense and from someone who has actually had a gun pulled on them and fired next to his head, I am not as quick as others to simply go with your story yet.
keep a bat in your truck, I’d take bat vs knife odds anyday
then, leave you wallet in your truck so if it ever does happen again, you’ll honestly have to go to your truck to get it (obviously talking your way out of it would be better, and do that if you can). But if not, drop or throw your wallet when giving it to him, which if you do it right, should give you just enough time to grab your bat and crack his head open. take the wind out of the kids sails, I agree, people like that need to be put in their place before they do wind up hurting someone who doesn’t have a chance to defend themselves
I wouldn’t just knock him out though, I would literally stomp his face in and if he’s still awake threaten his life if he ever even so much as looks at you again
I’m like that too, I always keep an eye out for potential trouble. I always scan the surroundings for anything fishy, I’m always prepared for a worst-case scenario. Call me paranoid I just love life and would avoid a risk at any cost. On the other hand though, like a good Christian, I’m not afraid of anyone who can inflict physical injury… only of the one who can kill my soul

Ha! Tell that to the crackhead who has a gun at your crotch. I bet your soul will tell you to be very afraid.

In that case, the only one you have to fear is yourself.
