Thoughts On Mass Gainers

OK - so some background information first:

I started this year at around 145, 7.5% bf, 5’6". I’ve been eating everything I can find to try and gain some mass, and so far I’m up to just under 160, not too sure of the bf, but assumed still in the single digits. Talked to my friend at the gym today, he goes about 205, and he suggested some mass gainer stuff from GNC.

I’ve always been kinda leary of those, because it seems like a lot of filler, with junk carbs and other garbage in it. But in the case of just trying to get enough calories, does anybody have an opinion? If you like the mass gainers, thoughts on a brand or anything?? I currently am taking optimum nutrition gold standard whey and some GNC PM protein, and creatine and fishoil. Trying to gain on a clean bulk is admittedly very difficult, so I’ve conceded to eating some junk. Just started on a rippetoe program today, too.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, guys

mass gainers are garbage, full of sugar or maltodextrin.

search on here for recipes for homemade ones. there’s a recent thread on the very subject.

you can easily pack 700-800 high quality calories into your own mix without all the junk.

calories for bulking are important, but so too are the quality of those calories, unless for some reason you need an insane amount of calories due to metabolism or heavy exercise or work.

Just make your own. Throw some protein, peanut butter, oats, carrots, milk maybe a banana or two into a blender and have at it.

It is not very hard to make a 800+ calorie shake. Have two of those a day on top of everything else you are eating and I defy you to not put on weight.

Banana, milk, 1-2scoops whey, PB.
Damn, 1000cals.

I have never tried a good mass gainer, though MuscleMilk does infact taste amazing, it’s just too fatty.

His avatar gets him a bye on this issue.

So the consensus is no go on commercial mass gainers. Thanks guys, I’m gonna look into some recipes for home made high cal shakes.

If you’re going to buy a weight gainer I’d recomend ISOMASS. It’s by ISOPURE and in my opinion it’s the cleanest gainer. Get it online it’s much cheaper.

yeah, instead of a mass gainer just take a bunch of protein shakes

Try Metabolic Drive Complete and as others have said add whatever calorie boosting ingredients float your boat. With Metabolic Drive you are at least getting quality protein, carbs, and fiber.

D

Dude never, I mean never use the GNC mass gainer. Bros dont let bros use that shit. Its such a piss quality protein source merely spiked with simple sugars to kick up the calories. Make your own. Not too hard and possibly cheaper.
