This Makes Me a Proud American

You’re a proud American because of lies? I find that rather strange.

The US has military bases all over the world. I believe it has a rather big base on Cuba that has been in the news recently.

While the US did indeed sent an aircraft carrier into the region to help the tsunami victims, help flooded in from all over the world. There is no evidence for this conversation.

There’s also no evidence for the conversation at the naval conference. Where was the conference exactly? And when did it take place.

Oh boy, you Yanks are so gullible.

And what good has you or your homeland done for anybody? Oh yea, that’s right, nothing.

Belgium makes some damn good beer.

Yes they do.

As much as I can see the turths in these passages, they’re still propaganda. Obviously, sending the carriers to help the tsunami victims was an act of altruism. That cannot be compared to Iraq. In Iraq, we are not taking land. No, we’re taking oil and lives. So much better, don’t you think? We’re also giving ourselves a new outlet for businesses, and a war to boost the profits of our defense complex. Not land, but certainly something.

The archbishop made a stupid comment to a former American Sec of State. and Powel responded patriotically, not analytically. Because something is profound and moving does not ensure that that statement is not a lie or half truth.

I don’t think America is as bad as the old time imperialists, but to say we are the altruists of the world fighting for democracy where no one else will and asking for nothing in return is downright ludicrous.

You’re assuming that altruism is good. Check your premises.

Hint: altruism can’t be done. Its a death wish for yourself.

I watched “der Untergang” last week. This is a direct quote from your hero isn’t it?

You asked me who I would vote for if Bush ran againt Hitler. We know you would vote for Hitler, you prefer the orginal.

Hiding behind your stupidity again? How comfortable.

Hardly- Hitler was a socialist.

When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of ‘empire building’ by George Bush. He answered by saying, “Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.”

It became very quiet in the room.

A perfect example of how right wing loonies care nothing of reality and love resorting to lies and distortion.

This lousy piece isn’t journalism. It’s crap. And if the most easily verifiable portion turned out to be bullshit, what are we to make of the unverifiable, unsourced and undocumented anecdotes that follow?

I’m surprised he didn’t get along with Stalin then.

Hey, ask HH, he’s convinced Bush is a stealth liberal.

Yes, Hitler and Stalin were working together, but neither trusted each other. (Hmm, wonder why.) Their alliance fell apart obviously. (Invading the USSR may have had a little something to do with this.)

Anyway bringing up Hitler or the Nazis really should be used for accurate analogies. Otherwise its just a childish attack.

Why didn´t protestants not get along with catholics?

Or the Judean Peoples Front with the Peoples Front of Judea?

(I hope I remember that correctly.)

“Are you the Judean People’s Front?”
“Fuck off!”
“What?”
“Judean People’s Front. We’re the People’s Front of Judea! Judean People’s Front. Cawk.”
“Can I… join your group?”
“No. Piss off.”
“I didn’t want to sell this stuff. It’s only a job. I hate the Romans as much as anybody.”
“If you really wanted to join the P.F.J., you’d have to really hate the Romans.”
“I do!”
“Oh, yeah? How much?”
“Uh…a lot!”
“Right. You’re in. Listen. The only people we hate more than the Romans are the fucking Judean People’s Front.”

‘Splitters!’

“…and the People’s Front of Judea!”
We’re the People’s Front of Judea!”
“I thought we were the Popular Front…”
People’s Front!!”
“Whatever happened to the Popular Front?”
“He’s sitting over there.”

“SPLITTER!!”

Okay, one more Life of Brian bit, only because it’s extremely pertinent to the topic of this thread. Sound familiar?

“They’ve bled us white, the bastards. They’ve taken everything we had, and not just from us, from our fathers, and from our fathers’ fathers.”
“And from our fathers’ fathers’ fathers.”
“Yeah.”
“And from our fathers’ fathers’ fathers’ fathers.”
“Yeah. All right, Stan. Don’t labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return?!”
“The aqueduct?”
“What?”
“The aqueduct.”

“Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that’s true. Yeah.”
“And the sanitation.”
“Oh, yeah, the sanitation, Reg. Remember what the city used to be like?”
“Yeah. All right. I’ll grant you the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that the Romans have done.”
“And the roads.”

“Well, yeah. Obviously the roads. I mean, the roads go without saying, don’t they? But apart from the sanitation, the aqueduct, and the roads–”
“Irrigation.”
“Medicine.”
“Education.”
“Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough.”
“And the wine.”
“Oh, yes. Yeah…”

“Yeah. Yeah, that’s something we’d really miss, Reg, if the Romans left. Huh.”
“Public baths.”
“And it’s safe to walk in the streets at night now, Reg.”
“Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let’s face it. They’re the only ones who could in a place like this.”

“All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?”
“Brought peace.”
“Oh, peace? Shut up!”

We’re the Romans.

Cheers.

US marine charged over Japan rape

Let’s face it. I as an american do not mind doing what we think is right. If we have to go build a base in a country and patrol their streets so innocent people that aren’t at war, such as those in the world trade center, don’t die, that’s fine by me. Build two or three bases. Also, if we have to go to cuba because they are so close to america and they may have a nuclear missile, then hell ya i’d build three more there.

If America has enough power and influence that we can go to these places and make a difference, and also protect our country better then i’m fine with it. Also I don’t see why too many other countries would complain when americans are the primary people in these countries that are losing our lives when other countries decided to support the cause, but when their men started dying the pulled out.

Just for starters, the primary people losing their lives are never the Americans.
