Interesting, however it still doesn’t explain how people can be so controlled by these apparently ficticious diseases.
Call it a disorder, disease, whatever you want, but the simple fact remains that there ARE people out there who simply can’t control themselves. What about the girl I mentioned, I have no reason to believe she’s lying about these things, she’s expressed to me that she doesn’t enjoy being in this situation, so why else would she do it?

Maybe something in her unconcious mind that must be brought to her concious mind before she can effectively deal with it? Maybe she’s weak minded? I don’t know but I do know there are people with issues they can’t help, and trying to say “All mental disorders/diseases are figments of the sufferers imaginations and they’re just pussies who can’t deal” seems like a gross oversimplification to me.
Probably weak-minded. I hope I’m not offending you, but it sounds like this girl is in need of medical help. I think the line is always drawn when their lives or others lives are in danger. I can agree that if someone is doing one of the following they are mentally unstable. But I don’t however, feel they can be diagnosed with a mental illness.

No you’re not offending me at all, I just think that, for whatever reason, there truly are people out there who have issues that need to be addressed despite what you want to call them. She is finally receiving medical help, but the damage is done, the main issue seems to be her parents.

I don’t know whether all cases of mental conditions are as climate-driven as this but if they are then you would be correct, and this alternative seems to agree with the basic premise of the book “Outliers”, although taken in the opposite direction.

I’ll have to look into that one.

It’s the book they talked about in that article here on T-Nation a while back about the 10k hour rule, if you want to be elite level you need to do it for 10k hours. The book then goes on to explain that success isn’t merely putting in 10k hours, it’s also due to a number of other factors such as how you were raised, lucky breaks you got, even the month you’re born. A fantastic read if you’re ever looking for something to read.

Those videos are making me hungry. Got to go grab some food NOW!

Do you by any chance have the title?

That was the gayest shit ever. Dr. Phil is the cheesiest huckster ever.

Any disorder he has is probably caused by a lack of proper education about health, lifting, and eating like a man.

This is what I was thinking. He seems to be very meticulous about his diet and routine. Too meticulous, yes, but… Imagine he knew half the stuff available on this site?

Imagine this kid saw the G-flux article.

As with most cases, I think this is a case of outdated, untrue information still being taught.
I agree. He is tremendously dedicated, but how much does he really know about diet and nutrition? It just seems as if he has looked at magazine photos of bodybuilders in contest shape and used that as inspiration.

His Dad has probably shown him the basics as far as training is concerned, and the kid has then filled in the gaps with a lot of guesswork, especially on the nutritional side of things. I bet he doesn’t even know the protein requirements for his normal bodyweight.

Personally, I think it is a big mistake to ban the kid from training. Dr. Phil should have brought a number of people on the show who have physiques that the kid aspires to, bodybuilders especially.

He can then talk to these people and learn the reality behind getting the body he wants. Even better, the producers could’ve shelled out to get the kid a top notch personal trainer and chef for a few months, just to show him how to train and eat. The results at the end should be enough to persuade him that his training approach was wrong.

Making him quit outright is not the answer. Let’s say he recovers and then resumes training: he is just going to fall back into his old habits because the base of knowledge still isn’t there.

Alright thank you.

I think the most horrifying thing about this whole deal has been missed.

I find it completely disturbing that strength4life is sitting around watching Dr. Phil. You have heard of ESPN, right?

I love Dr Phil’s approach to people’s problems. If lifting is making you emotionally unstable, quit lifting. If drinking is making you emotionally unstable, quit drinking. If sex is making you emotionally unstable, stop having sex.

Besides strongman comps, ESPN sucks. I can’t stand watching any NFL game on that station. The commentators are the most annoying bunch of @$$holes I’ve ever heard.

At least this is interesting. Life isn’t just about lifting and sports. There’s other aspects.

Dr. Phil could stand to do a few pushups and calorie counting.

Hiyo!

That’s a way better comeback then the ones I was thinking of. Thank you.

I’ve said that too. I find it funny that he writes books on how to eat properly and be healthy yet he sure as fuck doesn’t look the way I want to look so why would I listen to him.

Kid needs to eat his CARRRRRRRRRROTZ

I think that’s already his problem. He took it too far with the carrots.

Seriously though, I don’t get this kid. He says right at the beginning of the video that he wants to be muscular, read muscle magazines around the house and then says he’s afraid of what normal food will do to his body. WTF?

It’s nice to see that his Dad, who also lift weights, showed him the correct way. sigh
I thought the same thing! He doesn’t need Dr. Phil, he needs Professor X.

If your goal is to have muscle, you have to eat.

I don’t get why this is such a difficult concept. It is the same all through nature.
