I have been doing a contest prep for the past 7 weeks, started 13 weeks out. This is my first ever contest prep. I have done a cut before all natural in we 12 weeks and got down to 9% bodyfat. I am looking for opinions and possible help the next 6 weeks to step on stage respectable. Attached is my progress i made in the past 7 weeks. Current weight is 194lbs. I would ideally like to come in at middleweight for the show. Please share your thoughts, opinions, feedback, tips.
As I’ve never actually cut to show-level myself, take my advice with a grain of salt. That being said, I’ve studied a lot of contest prep logs on here, and to me 6 weeks looks like a pretty short time given your current condition. You’ve got absolutely no cuts in your legs showing, and your abs are barely outlined. I don’t see much in the way of veins in your upper chest/shoulders area either, and it seems like you should have those at this point (that may just be the lighting though). I imagine you are going to do this contest no matter what, so good luck.
Consider taking a look at a few logs here and compare their conditioning at around the same time frame. This is the sort of thing you would be up against.
Could you get significantly better? Yes, but if there is an option why force it and come in at less than your best? 6 weeks to drop at least 20lbs? to make middleweight…rrrrrough.
Also, middleweights tend to have SUPER conditioning, coming in just bigger than most will not cut it.
Thanks for feedback, dropping/ cutting weight to me is nothing new, i wrestled my whole life and I understand the conditioning aspect. I mainly dont want to be emabressed on stage as this is more of a bucket list thing and I have been working my ass off. below is a pic from a cut i did for a body transformation that got me into bodybuilding. i started at 217 lbs and cut to 278 in 12 weeks and that was all natural. I appreciate the feedback though. ANy tips would be helpful too. I am also not set on making middleweight but i believe with my height. It would be ideal
-Middleweight class = 160 - 176 lbs at weigh in. I usually competed in that class at 5’8.
-As good as you looked in your post transformation photos (and I give you a lotta respect for them!) they’re not ‘contest level’ leanness.
-Dropping “weight” and dropping fat while retaining muscle are two different things. While you could drop the required scale weight to come in under 176 lbs in the given time, I don’t think it’s doable to lose 18 lbs of pure bodyfat in the time frame you’ve listed.
-Now, with the middleweight issues out of the way… Is it possible to drop significant bodyfat in the weeks left and step onstage in your best ever condition, class limits be damned? Of course. It ain’t gonna be fun, but if you’ve got the mindset, proper perspective (very important IMO), and the heart to gut it out, I think you can get it done. Again, not fun, but in the big picture, standing onstage under the lights, in hindsight, it all seems worth it -lol

agree w/ Stu. dropping weight vs dropping fat but retaining all of your muscle these are two different animals. plus if you have 6wks you actually have 4wks. last two you need to be ready…minus 2 wks from all prep. if the last two weeks are spend trying to lose fat you are at a biological and psychological disadvantage going into the show. plus such a short and drastic cut is bad for your metabolic well being. fasted cardio, fat burners - these things are a lose lose to me.
