I don’t think this problem is unique to the USA.

Thanks guys, I mean that.
We had one that whenever anyone would sneeze and another coworker would say “Bless you” she would then say to that person “Not everyone is Christian you know!”
And another time a coworker mentioned that one town in the north of Taiwan was where Japanese soldiers used to go during WWII to get Taiwanese women for sex, she’d add “Well, it’s not like white people didn’t do bad things in the war too!”
She also would write on student’s evaluations “Your the best”.
The thing is she’s probably the fifth or sixth one like that we’ve had. I think it’s the kind of person that decides to move to Asia. They have a certain mindset that they’re trailblazing and doing something new and different and exciting and that it’ll be a great time to learn yoga and become a vegetarian. They study Mandarin just enough to impress/annoy their friends back home whose parents “only” paid for them to go backpack across Europe.
For me:
Bad listening skills. Actively working on this one, but still have a hard time. Hate to sound sexist, but women seem to have an easier time with this one than men.
Running speed getting worse. Used to play rugby in college. 5Ks in 25 minutes was a part of my daily routine. If I can run one in 30 and not puke up a lung, I’m doing good.
Bad skills in reading people in general. Never was an issue as an engineer or analyst, but as I move up the chain, I need to get better. Any advice on this one?
This is has been a good, cathartic thread. Good to read that most of the other things that bug me are common.

I give them credit for trying to do good and teach other people. Never had that desire, but probably because too many teachers in my family, including the misses. Bad that they’re condensing about it. Props to you that you’re not taking advantage of them as easy lays.

There is a saying that art cannot be finished, only abandoned. There is about a ton of truth to it. I don’t know anyone that was extremely talented that was ever happy with their work when it was finished. There was all the enthusiasm and energy in the world in the midst of it, but when they came to the end point, for whatever reason, they weren’t happy with what they had done. They weren’t even content. Be it painting, music, or even cutting the god damn grass. My dad will spend complete days on his fucking lawn, only to then tell me how it’s not good enough and looks like shit. I’m no lawn expert, but it looks pretty damn great to me. I ask him why he does it and he shrugs and says “I just like doing it”.
My dad is a bit of an old stubborn retarded fool, and the message of this video would be lost on him, but you might want to check it out: Music and Life - Alan Watts - YouTube
I drink way too often.
I tend to live my life in four-year increments: high school, college, army…
I think that every story I write is amazing, and then I revisit it in a few weeks and all I see is trash.
I still post in threads on here debating religion/creationism/darwinism etc. I keep promising myself that I’ll stay the hell out of those arenas.
My wife took me back sfter a month and i still miss my affair partner and it’s been 2 years
I wish I was more focused at work
I wish I had better self control

We’ve had a few come through my work and I end up wanting to shoot myself rather than hear them talk about yoga or how bad America is (they’re trying to look worldly) or how they love Chou Doufou (stinky tofu…it’s boiled in oil and I’ll tell you…tofu boiled in oil really stinks…even in Chinese it’s called stinky tofu) and the thing that bugs me about this is that I don’t confront these women…I probably shouldn’t anyway; I’d look like the big asshole I am…it’s just how I don’t let it roll off my back but instead ignore her until she moves back to the US.
Males under 25 or so are just as bad. Classes just started this week and now I have to spend a good portion of my day with people under 25, but luckily it is mostly me lecturing or answering questions about physics. The time immediately before and after class is unbearable, though.
As for things I hate about myself:
I am very shy.
when I get into a project/research it totally consumes me and I spend most of my time working on it, to the point of shutting out a lot of other things that I shouldn’t.

Procrastination - I almost screwed myself in the last 2 months of Uni because of this. What makes it worse is that I work really well under pressure, so I can stupidly justify to myself about putting things off.
Thankfully I have stopped this.
I am a serious morning person. If there is work to be done, I have to start it before 10am, otherwise I find it incredibly difficult to get going.

Well, there are always exceptions. Most of my junior and senior undergrad students are also very bearable simply because the academic rigor required to get to that level of course material requires a certain level of maturity that most students do not have or obtain during their late teens and early 20’s, and I would imagine medical students fall into that category as well.

That’s a good point.
I’m a procrastinator. I know a lot of people are but I really hate it. I wish I had the motivation to get things done early.

North America includes Canada and Mexico.
My most glaring flaw is also my best asset: I don’t like being a hypocrite. I don’t usually dislike hypcocrisy in others but I’ve spent so much time trying to eliminate it from my own conduct and opinions that I’ll sometimes point it out in other people and through that I’ve garnered a rep for being confrontational and uncompromising…
Hypocrisy can very easily be interpreted as lying - there’s a very thin divide between the two, so I’m honest to a fault. I’ve been in situations (even mundane ones) where after walking away I’ve felt like I’d have made better progress if I hadn’t been so honest.

Okay.
I’m sure the next job will be better and it’s not your fault. You deserve better.
Whats with the condescending attitude? Atleast im being honest and I didnt give a bullshit answer like you did. “Yeah, I HATE myself for being a jerk online by pointing out peoples flaw”

Yawn.
Whatever.

QF, I probably shouldn’t but in here but I think it’s important for you to try to understand that you are fucking up. It is very clear to me you are, and probably that’s why Christine and Cargo are getting on you.
Employers know how long it should take someone to catch on. You weren’t getting it fast enough - that’s on you.
You should have never quit the first internship. Internships are for experience, you shouldn’t have an expectation of getting hired. Your expectation should be to learn a lot of useful shit and try to be helpful and grateful in the process.
Maybe the bipolar boss has some mental disorder but he must be functional so you should have been able to walk him though your work explaining what you and did not do. Saying “the hell with you” is not the way an adult, especially a professional adult handles things.
These are the impressions I got from your post. Most likely you stated the facts more favorably to you, it’s human nature.
yeah, there are a million web designers. When you are hired to use your talents, you make them fit company expectations. It’s not your call if the work is shit or quality, it needs to be what the guy buying it wants or on to the next designer. Carry that logic, you are the employee and a low level one at that. Know your place and suck it up.
However, having worked for someone bi-polar before, no thanks… when you are working at your desk and your boss comes in screaming at you / cussing you out for stuff you had nothing to do with… sorry, but i really dont care to work in a hostile work environment…
