🄱 Things to Do When You're Not Sleeping

I like the idea of Flame Out for some ā€œfoodā€ you can get down without eating. I never thought of that. Thanks for the tip!

I do one or all of these depending on how far I make it still being awake:

  1. Think something/a characteristic about God/Jesus starting with each letter of the alphabet.
  2. List a person or place in the Bible that starts with each letter of the alphabet.
  3. List a famous person whose first and last name start with the same letter for each letter of the alphabet.

If I’m awake, I might as well use my mind productively instead of thinking about disasters that may never happen. lol

Watch chiropractor and ASMR videos.

I can’t sleep so I’ll try this challenge. I have a Catholic and Lutheran background, with a very unbiblical life. This is all paraphrased from myself, different translations, and from other writers, but it’s a fun thought experiment.

A - Abel sacrifed his sheep, Cain sacrificed his grain. God has favorites.
B - Bathsheba and David.
C - When you comfort the sick, clothe the naked, and the dying, visit the prisons.
D - Do unto others as you desire to be done to yourself.
E - Ester. Sackcloth and ashes. A noose.
F - Fuck you. Basically the entire book of Job.
G - Give to Ceasars what is Ceasars, Give to God what is God’s.
H - Holy is not a still place.
I - In our beginning, creation.
J - Joshua. Coming after Moses is a tough act to follow.
K - King. Saul and Samuel.
L - Love is patient, love is kind
M - Meaningless, meaningless. Everything is Meaningless.
N - Night in the garden of Gethsemane.
O - Original sin and St. Augustine
P - Pharoah and the ten plagues
Q - A question, ā€œMy god, my god, why have you forsaken me?ā€
R - Revelations already happened. It’s not prophecy.
S - Stones. Let you who are without sin cast the first stone.
T - Thomas sticking his fingers in nail wounds in a palm.
U - Unstable as water, thou shalt not excell
V - A virgin will conceve a son.
W - Jesus fashioned a whip and drove the mearchants from the temple.
X - Couldn’t think of one for this.
Y - Do you know who created the heavens and the earth?
Z - Zaccheus the tax collector.

This isn’t meant to start any arguments, just
thoughts from the insomniac brain.

There’s a podcast that puts me to sleep, and it’s probably not going to be a huge hit among the men here. But bedtime stories read by a British guy with a breathy, deep voice make me extremely drowsy.

Another thing that helps is reading fiction from an author, who’s not trying to show off his or her literary skills, but who’s just a good story teller.

I’ve been devouring books by the author Frieda McFadden. Every story is a bit of a mystery with a huge twist at the end. Her stuff is easy to read, and her character development is fantastic.

This one’s my favorite so far:

I usually watch gun reviews and gun torture tests when I can’t sleep.

What are your thoughts on ported choke tubes? Worth the hype, or a neat effect with limited real world effect on results?

Ported choke tubes will do 2 things very well:

  1. They will cost more.
  2. They will increase the noise level of your gun.

Oh and they are hard as fuck to clean with all those little fucking holes, but they do look kind of cool.

I have not noticed better patterning from the wad being pulled from the shell earlier, less recoil, or any of that nonsense that is claimed.

Lol, agreed. I suppose an errant piece of shot ā€œredirectedā€ to the outer limit of a pattern could save a guy in a sporting clays tournament now and then, but I don’t see it bagging extra ducks.

My first job was a trapper at a sporting clays range in Houston. Oil companies would host tournaments and these guys would pull up with minimum $6k customized shotguns and a matching amount of gear.

I remember one tournament a dude showed up with a Mossberg pump and a Walmart bag full of federal shells. He won an exclusive hunt in Louisiana and an F-150. Shot modified the entire time. Hilarious.

If you can shoot, you can shoot.

Expensive guns do help some things, but an expensive gun in the hands of a novice / someone who doesn’t shoot much… meh.

The elite are definitely gifted, but being a good proficient shooter is time behind the trigger and round count.

I recently shot a trap tournament for a children’s orphanage charity. I used my modifed Beretta 1301 pro comp. I did decent. I shot 89/100. It was an easy course, so I should have shot 100/100 but oh well.

Yeah. I’ll spend money on long range rifle accuracy and competition guns for an edge but other than that the kill zone is all I really care about.

89 is good shooting for most course configurations I’ve seen, but it is painful to drop below 90. Especially when you feel like you should have a 100. Next time.

I used to get sporting clay tips from Bobby Fowler back in the day. Sometimes he would use a trapper to pull his lessons and didn’t care if you listened in and asked clarifying questions after his clients were gone. Good times.

Exactly. I shoot this event every year. It is for a great cause. Teams of 4 cost $20K, but for the kids it is worth it.
