Pretty gruesome… surprised her dog hadn’t started eating her
Seen it so many times we just kinda joke around. I just know it’s real life stuff. The smell lingers in you nose for a long time. It’s like spoiled pork or a drunk with stomach ulcers breathing in your face. The maggots still gross me out bahaha. You poke it it’s likely to burst and shoot bodily fluids all over you.
New Orleans after Katrina was unreal smelling… everything rotting and wet. I’ll never forget that one.
Ya eating after wasn’t fun or enjoyable
Oh man. That happened to my one grandmother. She fell down the steps drunk while my parents were gone camping for the weekend, laid there and died. The dog she had got hungry and ate her face.
My dad hated that dog in the first place (a mean snappy poodle) then that, and put it down like immediately.
I hated those steps from the time I could walk. They went from the lower floor where our kitchen was to the middle floor where everything else was. I’d sprint up them like lightning out of fear. My dad noticed, and once I was old enough he explained what happened there.
I swear she haunted that stairway.
Few things gave me more satisfaction than seeing the infestation of maggots on my trash can lid instantly die when I sprayed bleach
Nothing makes me gag like a writhing maggot
Eekk
I had a lot of family in NOLA when Katrina hit. I’m so happy I wasn’t even 2 yet so I didn’t have to go help
It was surreal
Hearing that my sister lost her 10 year old cat to a blood clot

Someone left some Splenda in the office coffee spot. So, of course, I gave it a look. Here is the nutrition info.
So Splenda markets itself as a Zero Calorie Sugar Substitute
Oh ok, cool. Say: what is dextrose?
Oh…it’s sugar. What is Maltodextrin?
Oh, thank goodness, not a sugar. But wait: raises blood sugar levels FASTER than table sugar? But Splenda told me that….

Well, at least it’s zero calorie, right. Wait, what’s the serving size?
![]()
It’s a gram…1 gram? So if this was sugar, it would be 4 calories. Because 1g of carbs is 4 calories. How many carbs are in this?
![]()
Less than a gram…but not zero, as otherwise, they’d call it zero, like they did with everything else. So why is it zero calories?
So, basically, splenda has nearly as many calories as sugar and contains sugar. So everything about it is a lie. And meanwhile, it spikes your blood sugar MORE than table sugar does. Why don’t we just use sugar?
Or honey. Honey is f**king awesome.
I’d rather just have real regular sugar. Or honey. No need for self delusion about what I’m doing or putting in to my body.
Same about Honey…if i want a sweetener thats what it is
rather have something processed by bees than by man, lol
Because sucralose is way sweeter than regular white sugar. The serving size is 1 packet which is the equivalent of 2 tsp (8 grams) of sugar. The amount of maltodextrin is not going to have a noticeable effect on blood sugars.
“The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference shows that 10 grams, i.e., ten individual packets, of Splenda (NDB No: 19868) have 33 Calories. Ten grams of Splenda contain 9.00 g of carbohydrates consisting of 8.03 g of sugars (dextrose) and 0.96 grams of starch (maltodextrin).”
1 packet has what? 0.096 grams of maltodextrin
I love this. What a con, haha.
People have been ingesting sugar for thousands of years, so I would never take issue with someone who didn’t want to use sweeteners.
The paediatrician Lustig makes a compelling argument that excessive amounts of fructose in large quantities (typically much more than most people would get from eating lots of whole fruit); fructose forming 50% of table sugar and a little more in corn syrup (58% if memory serves), is a major cause of fatty liver and diabetes.
Non-nutritive sweeteners and sugar alcohols have been heavily studied. I believe they are safe at typical doses. Some have been accused of causing appetite changes, negative gut microbiome effects (though we really don’t understand the microbiome; we can’t even type or identify many microbes), dementia, cancer and heart disease. I do not think this true of common sweeteners at normal doses. Many of these, especially sugar alcohols, do have effects on insulin, typically lower than table sugar (but maltodextrin is comparable). But few think Splenda is a significant source of calories. The main fact is sucralose is just a lot sweeter than sugar.
At minimum, lawyers and Big Sugar would be all over Coke Zero and Sweet and Low if they were lying about obvious fundamentals.
Still, dextrose and maltodextrins are sugars or sweet starches. If you prefer honey, all the power to you.
I could also move this over to hot takes to share my perspective that sweetening coffee is a sign of not actually liking coffee, haha.
“Stevia” with Stevia itself as the last ingredient. That’s something.
