Out of curiosity who would you have him replace? For now ignore the fact that coaches will consider team cohesion and coachability as well as acute performance, and just on an ability basis?
Iām not saying start. But he is 100% a better option than a handful of 2nd string, and likely most of the practice squad QBs. He would be an ideal scout team Lamar Jackson.
If he turns down offers, thatās one thing. But he absolutely should make a roster or practice squad.
How is it objectively false when intangibles like leadership, teamwork, attitude, etc⦠are always a part of GM/coachās decision to hire/draft a player?
Heās toxic. I wouldnāt give him 5-minutes of my time to try out regardless of his physical abilities.
What are you basing your OPINION on? What evidence?
He would undoubtedly be more of a distraction than a handful of 2nd string and all of the practice squad QBs too.
These are also the same guys who eschew intangibles when it comes to giving reprehensible human beings multiple shots in the league.
That tells me that 1. Kaep really is washed, since most of these scumbags are pretty talented, or 2. The threat to revenue by employing Kaep is greater than employing a child beater/wife abuser/accused murderer/etc.
I wouldnāt trust an NFL GMs intangibles assessment further than I could projectile vomit it.
If thatās all of the utility you are going to get from a player, is it really worth taking on a deliberately controversial and political character?
Career stats, last active season, interviews from teammates and coaches, and what he has said recently. Him being toxic to fans does not equal toxic in the locker room. All players care about is helping the team win⦠You can beat your wife, kill dogs, kill people, do drugs and be a terrible person as long as you work hard and perform.
I said he is objectively good enough. I also said it was up for argument if his talent was worth the baggage.
With a physical freak like kap, in a liberal city, I think itās worth taking a chance. Sign for league minimum. If he isnāt worth it after a few weeks, cut him. It worked for Vick. Didnāt work for plenty of others.
Thatās true, but I think we see a lot less second chances. At least for blatant scumbags. Like Ray Rice, for example. We saw him knock his fiance out and he was pretty darn good. No one touched him.
If you genuinely think they have the potential to start, yea maybe, if they are, at best, a practice squad player, the cost benefit ratio just doesnāt add up because the benefit is pretty small.
Agree, I do think theyāve tightened up a bit, but that was a pretty low bar to begin with haha. Rice was good, but probably replaceable enough that GMs knew better. Tyreek Hill? AP? Fuck even Greg Hardy (though that didnāt last long). All that happened after Rice iirc.
Probably, I donāt follow the NFL all that much anymore.
Agreed, but he is a ex-pro bowl player, with freakish athletic gifts still in prime athletic age. I see parallels to Vick.
But my point of my original post is more the slimy way the NFL is going about setting this tryout up in every possible way to fail.
Same, Iāve completely transitioned to basketball these days. I only watch a few games a year and tend to talk absurd amounts of shit about them while I do.
Meh, heās been out of the league for 3 or 4 years and in that time teams have seen other similar (probably better) players so Iām not sure he would be as successful. Iām not sure how he made the pro bowl his numbers arenāt that great for any given year.
I guess I donāt know what the normal procedure is for tryouts. I just donāt like Colin Kapernick.
Good. Fuck that parasite.
Tryouts are always on Tuesday because that is the lightest day in the NFL workweek and coaches can travel to attend the tryout. The NFL has given kap only 3 days notice for this tryout, and scheduled it on Saturday⦠The day before gameday, and the day half of coaches are traveling in an effort to limit the number of coaches attending. The NFL denied kaps request to reschedule for this Tuesday, citing no reasons.
Strikes me as passive aggressive, slimy, etc. Iām not a fan of the NFL front office for stuff like this.
Is it normal for the NFL to schedule a mid season try-out in the absence of teams asking for them specifically for an identified role?
From what I know, a single player tryout only happens for big names. Gotta be able to drum up interest to get coaches to travel to see the tryout. Joe ā2nd stringā Smith isnāt going to get coaches traveling to see him tryout, ya know? He goes to each team for his tryouts.
Thing with kap is, a league wide tryout is the only route for him as there is safety in numbers for the teams that attend. Those teams receive no blowback for attending a tryout with 18 other teams, but they get blasted for bringing him in for a tryout with their team. Big risk, moderate reward for a single team tryout. No risk moderate reward for a league wide tryout⦠From a teamās perspective.
