Things That Make You Happy

I never used conditioner in my life. Now I’m mostly bald at 36, so maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about.

You make a good point. I don’t think most men need conditioner. Short hair just doesn’t have a lot of time before it gets chopped off to break or get split ends. It also doesn’t become a tangled mess (conditioner is great for untangling). My hair is about mid back though, so I have noticed improvement with conditioner.

I was the same, but I grew my hair out during lockdown and it was super curly. Just shampoo will dry out your hair dramatically which leaves you just looking like a ball of frizz. Natural oils cannot do their job on longer hair, even less so when it’s curly. Repeated shampoo/shower gelling is fine on short hair. On long hair just using shampoo means you’re stripping out all those oils and what’s left is a straw-like, sometimes knotty, unmanageable mess. When girls have said to me “it’s my hair washing day” I never really understood it - and probably mocked it in the past! …But all the girls I know with the best hair might only shampoo once or twice a week, conditioning sometimes almost every day if not using some kind of refresh spray/cream of some sort.

I’ve also started using hair oil after washing and conditioning. It makes the hair much less frizzy, and it shines more. The downside is that you are adding oils to your hair, and it will look dirty faster. For me, I lose about 1 day of clean looking hair.

Garnier Fructis makes the one I use. It is super cheap. My wife thinks its trash though and uses one that is about 10X the cost. IDK, it works for me.

#Me too haha. It’s also just more of a PITA than I imagined when I had short hair. I can’t get away with twice a week (unless I want to look like I came from an anime convention), but three times works.

There’s a reason why Mr. Clean isn’t on Shampoo bottles mate

I tried hair oil for a bit but it flattened my curls too much. (me of 4-5 years ago would not believe I’m talking like this haha).

Now here’s where you can mock me. I’m the kind of person who when I start caring about something, I research it intensely. I did it with training, and I did it during lockdown for my hair. I ended up doing a method where you go sulfate and silicone free. The sulfates are the chemicals in shampoos that have all the harshness that strips the hair’s natural oils which dries it out causing frizz and other things. Silicones are moisturizing but can build up if you don’t use sulfates to remove them. The trick is to use shampoos and conditioners that contain neither of them. Over the course of a couple of weeks your hair will naturally become softer, frizzless, easy to manage, and for a lot of people with straight hair… wavier.

It certainly worked for me and there are a ton of communities online, youtube videos and stuff of people doing the same thing.

Great video here between two of my favorites on YouTube
World’s Strongest Man VS Rock Climbing - YouTube

Love the attitude of both these guys.

Goes to show how much specificity comes into things when training for something other than overall fitness.

My wife and I did a fair bit of indoor climbing before covid … watching that I kind of miss it … a lot of fun and very challenging - especially since I have a slight fear of heights

We have a clinging gym membership for the whole family and I don’t go as nearly as often I as I want to.
It’s a great workout activity fort whole family.

I used to do a lot of climbing. It is a good workout, but at least for me, I could not do it as often as I liked. My limit was about 3 days a week, or I’d get tendonitis symptoms. I’ve heard this from a few climbers.

The guys and gals at the top of the sport must have great elbow genetics haha.

I sometimes go to Vertical Endeavors in Mineapolis. You ever been there? I’ve only been to a few climbing gyms in my life but I always liked it. My uncle works there PT and will show me the ropes when I come.

Yeah, I have been to that one and the St. Paul one. I think I like St. Paul better. They recently built one in Bloomington, and I need to check it out.

It is a lot of fun, and can build great forearms / hand strength.

Nothing really special to see about the ropes haha. They just kinda hang there until you use them.

Sorry, had to capitalize on your pun.

Man, I shoulda been more careful with my wording.

Own that crap - it’s part of taking on “Dad” mode. Puns are important.

It’s more so that it was unintentional and I didn’t notice it until they pointed it out. Maybe I’ve not yet reached the proper “Dad level.” I will continue my study of this subject until I can make puns at a moment’s notice and on a variety of topics.

Unintentionally puns are god-tier puns … the ultimate dad pun so to speak
