This plus a hot shower were nice after being stuck for hours in bone-chilling rain.

My finances have been great since starting grad school in 2019: I maximize my Roth IRA contributions every year, afford non-budget vacations once or twice per year, and, as much as I hate them, can bounce back from medical and unexpected bills pretty well. I think I will feel rich if/when I get a “real person” job someday.

I skipped class yesterday to hang out with a friend

Totally worth it

Which city is this?

Pissburgh

Doesn’t look as quite as dire as people say it is - appreciate this is a picture of the pretty bits with no details!

Pittsburgh has improved significantly since the 1990s

We were on an overhang that overlooked the city

I swear Pittsburgh is what Cleveland wants to be when it grows up.

CLE is my closest big city, with Pitt another 40 minutes away, and we’re almost to the point that we go to Pitt for fun because it’s safer and all around cooler. If Youngstown was safer it could potentially be a more fun place than Cleveland, and is definitely a prettier city, but…yikes…

I’ve never been to Cleveland but went to Pittsburgh last September. Yikes.

I have been to Cleveland once and Pittsburgh also once. I saw a great show at Jacobs Pavilion in the former. Beautiful venue. I didn’t see much of either city though.

I love when I come home on Friday, lay on the floor, and do nothing.

Why yikes? Even my wife felt decently safe there compared to Cleveland or Akron

Jacobs is sweet, I was supposed to see the metal tour of the year there but COVID. Blossom music center is a killer outdoor venue too.

I just found it largely unappealing, I did spent a non-trivial amount of time in Mars though which probably didn’t help. Safety didn’t really factor into my decision. Millvale was a cool afternoon though, I’ll probably be back in the next year or so honestly as a friend lives out that way.

I’m just imagining Pittsburgh being worse and that doesn’t sound great lol

I met Loewenstein today. It was incredibly awkward, but produced excellent results

  1. He’s happy with me and has confirmed his willingness to write me a recommendation. Funny thing is that someone asked him about me (I didn’t ask him for a rec) and he “said nice things”
  2. Turns out HBS has a Business econ programme so I no longer have to choose btw behavioural and econ. even better, the professor I’m working with in the summer is on the faculty in that programme. If I do well, I’ll get a rec from her too

I feel like I’m in a really good academic position
