Things That Make You Happy

Today is the first day in 5 months (maybe longer) it has been possible for me to walk outside and not immediately sweat (I live in Florida). A cold front dropped the temps down to a perfect 62F today.

I seem unable to tie shoelaces properly. They always come undone. I use both “bunny ears” and “over, in and out” methods but the best stretch of time before they come loose is maybe 3 hours. Let me say, if anyone is thinking double knot, don’t even get me started!

This weekend, I bought new shoes which come with laces that seem to be made of a finer material and they have remained tied all day.

It’s still early and I don’t want to set myself up for a giant fall, but this makes me happy.

If dress shoes, used waxed shoelaces.

I double knot everything, which looks stupid, usually. If I’m running all of the loose bits have to be tucked into the lacing, because otherwise the plastic caps on the ends lash (LASH) my ankles. Because I’m a big baby it presents a huge distraction.

I often trip on my hiking boot laces, because the little lace hook things on one foot catch the loops on the opposing foot.

Not sure what’s wrong with me.

I think nothing.

Since acquiring my new shoes, I have been telling everyone I know about my improved life quality. What I am quickly discovering is that laces - and associated difficulties - are a big source of shame and quite the taboo for lots of people. And it’s been for true generations!

I need a good hashtag to begin the healing process.

Where to begin? I’m sitting in a hotel lobby in Reims, France, wearing the shoes I bought 15 minutes ago (coolio French CITY shoes!) and waiting for my husband, for whom this has been a work trip. Happy things, all.

I’m also happy I have TNation in my phone, and can take it anywhere, so I need never be bored.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who comprise this happy thing!

Snow makes me happy. Thanksgiving makes me happy. A half-foot of snow on Thanksgiving makes me very happy  To that end, happy Thanksgiving, all y’all!

This is a good thread…

Sex makes me happy on the rare occasions that I get it. But to be fair, it’s the same for everyone. Yes, there are those occasions when you feel terrible after sex, perhaps because you were cheating on your partner and you hate yourself for doing it, whatever. But for most of the time and for most people, it feels great.

With that said, if I really dig deep for an answer that is more than just a simple, fleeting pleasure like sex, I would say that what really makes me happy is a sense of purpose.

Oh! And good food! I can’t forget about that! lol. Especially if it’s justified (i.e. You had a great week’s worth of workouts instead of being a couch potato).

And friends too of course.

I think that with the right person, sex can bring a deeper happiness. Maybe not sense of purpose, but a sense of rightness and belonging.

Running into and running over feel distinctly different to me!

One of them feels less bumpy.

The Iranian dude who supplied the weapon that blew me up, effectively ended my combat career in the military, and killed the best friends I will ever have just got blown to Hell.

Makes me super fuzzy and happy.
