Thib will weigh in at 215. Who calls?

Over the weight he’s in is a loss.

The winner will be the one who gets the closest to his weight without exceeding it.

THIS is what I call an idiotic post.

Furthermore, if I decide to compete, the weight cut off for my class is 198.5lbs
So you will shed about 10 pounds of water before the show.

How’s your prep going coach? good luck and discipline with your dieting.

Can you tell what will you use as a tanning product for the show? I am planning my first competition as well and not realy clear what works best.
A friend of mine (also a Canadian bodybuilding champ) has a tanning salon and he bought a special spray tan made only for bodybuilding.

However if he were not available I’d use 5-6 coats of pro tan.

For a saturday show…

Thursday: 1 coat in the AM, light shower in the evening, 1 coat after the shower, go to bed.

Friday: light shower in the morning, 1 coat after the shower, light shower at around noon, 1 coat after the shower, no more showers, 1 coat at night

Saturday morning: 1 coat, mostly touch ups.

Also, what is your opinion on fruits? I did not see any in samples of your precontest diet. Does it mean you have none of them? Do you take any vitamins instead?
I go low carbs when I diet down, so no fruits.

Thank you. Special tan spray sounds really cool. I will try to ask around in NY tanning salons. Pro Tan sounds messy. I was trying to find an alternative like a Dream Tan http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/dream/dreamtan.html

Dream tan is nice… it also adds a little shimmer… the Jan Tana Spray booth (not sure if it’s the same one Thibs is talking about…) works great as well… My friend Angela used it for her show @ the Provincials… it looked amazing… and only 3 coats…

Regular spray tan doesn’t work. It’s far from being dark enough.

And then on stage you use some oil?

Oh… and the Jan Tana spray booth I mentioned is designed specifically for stage… not for regular tanning…

I would say best of luck, but who needs luck when you have experience.

Enjoy the dieting

(not)

To the best of my knowledge, Biotest doesn’t make glutamine and glycine supps. would you be able to recommend reputable brands on these two?

I’m preparing for my first show in May. My question is how you eat after the show is done. The question sound simple but, I know that my metabolism will be low and I don?t want to have 10% bf after 1 week but I want to take the benefit of the insulin.

It’s the same show as you, I think, Quebec de lest. It will be very motivating to see you there!

Thanx

I may or may not do that show. I’m already qualified for the provincial so we’ll see.

Honestly, metabolism slowdown is WAY overexagerated. Long term studies (12-16 weeks) of extreme dieting (we’re talking 800-1000 calories per day), doesn’t really decrease basal metabolic rate significantly.

The only factors that could lead to a slow metabolism would be loss of muscle mass and thyroid shutdown. In the first case it only happens if you indeed lose a lot of mass, in the second case it generally only happen to bodybuilders who used thyroid medication like cytomel (T3) to lose fat.

I’ve known a girld who abused such a product to get ready for a show and who gained over 60lbs while barely eating anything and doing cardio twice a day.

Most people who end up gaining a lot of undesired weight are…

a) using thyroid medications
b) going hog wild with their post-competition eating and can’t get it straightened out
c) gain a lot of water weight… this is usually due to a water rebound from using diuretics.

My best recommendation would be to keep eating like you did for your prep, but gradually add in quality carbs at the right time (peri-workout mostly).

Thx for answering my first question. I have another one. I saw that you will only do a refeed week in your prep, but no refeed day in your week. Is it pointless to do single day of refeed to raise leptin level ? Or because you don’t diet for a long period, you don’t need to worry about leptin level

thx again and sorry for my poor english

I don’t know where you read that I would not do a single refeed. I will, but only when I need them, not because their are scheduled on a calendar without rime or reason.

From one of my articles:

As much as possible, opt for clean alternatives.

You don’t need to load or refeed every week. Unless you’re excessive, leptin won’t be a problem until after several weeks of dieting, and glycogen stores can be kept relatively loaded even when dieting. You should have a loading or refeed day when your metabolism is starting to slow down (your morning temperature drops by one or two degrees) or when your glycogen stores are low (you’ll feel flat and have problems getting a pump).

The leaner you are, the more often you’ll need to load or refeed. When you’re getting leaner, you’re producing less leptin, thus continuing to drop fat will become harder. Furthermore, the leaner you are, the better your response to excessive eating. Because of better insulin sensitivity, you’ll store more of the nutrients in your muscles and less as fat.

Once your load, reefed, or cheat is over, go back to your regular diet ASAP.

Don’t go overboard. Go with the minimum amount needed to do the job. You don’t need two pizzas, three burgers, and a dozen donuts to refill glycogen stores, boost leptin, and give yourself some mental relief. (Remember the flat tire analogy?)

thx for the answer, i just misunderstood your plan. I will control myself to not eat whatever i want in those day!

Great thread. Good luck coach.

Today’s weight is 226lbs before my first meal and you can see abs through my t-shirt, so I’m in decent shape.

The plan for today:

AM - WHOLE BODY STRENGTH
A. Back squat
B. Bench press
C. Chin-ups

The reps are in the 2-5 range but I do not use any specific sets/reps pattern.

PM - TORSO
A1. Bench press
4 x 4-6

A2. Pull-ups
4 x 4-6

B1. Bottoms up bench press with added band resistance
4 x 4-6

B2. Lat pulldown
4 x 6-8

C1. Incline bench press
3 x 6-8

C2. Seated rowing
3 x 6-8

have you ever considered listing the weight u do Thibs, i think that would be really interesting but i see why you would not want to.

I derogated a bit to my PM workout. I felt in shape so I decided to go heavy.

A1. Bench press 5/4/3/2/1
Went up to 425lbs for 1, which was fairly easy

A2. Pull-ups 6-8 reps

B1. Incline bench 5/4/3/2/1
Went up to 335lbs which was also easy, but I suck at inclines and rarely to them

B2. Lat pulldown 5 x 4-6 reps

C1. Cross-over 3 x 10-12

C2. Rear delts work 3 x 10-12

Thibs,

Do you train alone, are you throwing up 425lbs without a spotter? Very impressive.

Best wishes,

James

Most of the time I train alone, but sometimes I train with one of my client. Which was the case for this workout.
