The Whoosification of America

Kinda right up the same alley as the OP

Every generation is convinced that it’s smarter than the previous one, and wiser than the next one.

At least my generation could spell wussification properly.

Wussification?! Is that what he was trying to spell?

Shit, and here I thought this thread was about the recent devolution of the American people into microscopic fuzzy anthropomorphic creatures living on dust motes in African jungles. I can rest easy now.

Honestly, how could the young “men” of today have any testicular fortitude? Has anyone seen how tight they wear their pants? THERE’S NO ROOM FOR TESTICLES IN THERE!!

I’m inclined to agree with FI here. Nostalgia for the old days is pretty much bullshit. Thigns have changed, some things are better some things are worse.

Before you start the rally call to return to the 40’s and 50’s, remember that that was an era where women were considered all but property. Consider it was an era where alcohol and other drugs were demonized. And consider how fucking boring Leave it to Beaver was. TV back then sucked dick!

We agree , except Leave it to Beaver was cool

Do not do this, buddy. The Constitution does NOT give rights. It gives some power to the government and sets strict limits on it. It simply is not in the “right giving” business. You must learn the distinction.
Exactly, we have rights and powers are granted to the government, not the other way around.

Not to beat a dead horse but it is NOT just a question of semantics. The people held and hold all power. They willingly ceded/cede some of it. The federal Constitution states what powers the people granted it. The states’ constitutions do likewise. And just so that is crystal-fuckin-clear, the Ninth and Tenth Amendments (originally drafted as just one amendment) explicitly remind us that ANY powers NOT listed in the ORIGINAL Constitution belong to the People.

Repeat: the government is capable of granting no rights whatsoever. None. Zilch.

It CAN grant privileges - within the scope of its people-granted power - which is why privileges can be taken away. Rights can’t.

Now why this little civics lesson on a thread titled “The Whoosification of America?” Because when people don’t have this “rights thing” figured out they become wussies. Slaves to their government instead of the other way around. Serfs to their “lord”. They willingly suck the cock of an out of control leviathan government in a submissive gesture to the “rights giver”.

RIP, James Madison.
Word. And you are right about the wussies or fatties. The day when I’ve become a tough guy is a sad day. But compared to what is out there…

I’m training my kids well though. The boy can shoot and grill. He understands the amendments. As Tommy said, " there is no other amendment in the Bill Of Rights other than the 2nd that say shall not be infringed."

My daughter shoots well, reads, and is an honor roll student. My son is even getting better grades than her. Right now they’ve been watching Free To Chose by Milton Friedman. They believe in personal responsibility because they have been taught it.

You know the word I have eliminated from their vocabulary in most cases?

FAIR.

The world would be a better place if we never watched TV and read more. Most people need a lot more books and a lot less TV.

My 12yrd daughter likes guys that wear those pants. I don’t get it.

Anyway I think I understand what he’s trying to say, and I agree. This may seem a little far fected but I want to try to work with me here. In a America we have boys growing up wearimg the same pants that girls wear (skinny jeans), writing poems about how hard life is, whining and crying about how hard life is on cell phones, cutting their wrists because they need to “feel” somthing. They don’t like babies because they don’t want any responsiblity. Many of them are taught that guns are bad and dont like them.

On the other hand you have Arabs who grow up struggling, working hard, playing soccer on the hard earth with no shoes. They are all about helping out their family and are all about getting married and having kids. Oh, some of them are radical and are just chomping at the bit to shoot an infidel.
If one of each type of guy were going to be in a MMA bought who do you think would win??

A little off topic but I think the black community was way better of back then. We didnt have the single moms, drugs, crime, STD’s or obesity that we have now. I may need to get my facts straight but I THINK as a whole we had a higher high school graduation rate back then too.

Actually, here I might agree with you. Black people have come a long way LEGALLY since that time, and certainly they are more “accepted” in our culture (take that as you want to take it), but black culture has appeared to have gone on a very noticeable downward trend. I agree though, we’re assuming at this point. I’m going purely off of black images that existed in pop culture. I don’t particularly remember seeing any media images glorifying crime among blacks in the 50’s. Then again, there really isn’t much media of blacks in the 50s. If we just go by Jazz we might be getting a twisted vision of the past.

I’d say, however, that the quality of living of blacks today is far better than that of a black man in the 50s and 60s. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

And not just the black community. All the negative aspects you just mentioned are much more prevalent in every ethnic group in America today. It’s called “decadence” and it happens when a generation, regardless of color, grows up with a combination of too much money, too much free time, no significant hardship, and very little personal responsibility.

I personally agree with you but in empathy of the culture that glorifies crime which is almost as white as it is black. America has a shrinking middle class.

You should see it from my prospective, when I grew up there were so many jobs that employers had to employ high school kids, if they wanted to employ anybody. The better the job the more qualifies the employee that is your free market working properly.

Now you have a generation of young men, that unless they have a college education, they will have no opportunity to get a job that could support a family.

I can hear the Republican Response that they should compete for the few jobs out there, they should get a college education or that they should leave the only place they live for a place with opportunity. And that would work until all the jobs were taken.

What I am saying is our culture is closing out a larger and larger group of Americans. Some day it will reach a tipping point. I believe it could be our down fall.

I disagree completely and I hate hearing this garbage. There are plenty of jobs out there, people just have to learn to differentiate supporting a family and living on easy street.

All it takes is a little fortitude and some hard work to support a family. Notice I said “support a family” not live a life of luxury. You may not end up owning a 3,500 square foot house with 2 SUV’s, but oh well, no one says everyone should own all these things.

Additionally, you’re generally not going to be able to raise 2+ kids on a single income of these lower paying jobs, but you probably shouldn’t be pumping out babies if you can’t afford them.

The problem is people get tired of not owning a lot of things, and they get jealous of the glamorized celebrity lifestyle. Then they think they are owed more. Bullshit. Life isn’t fair and you have to play the cards you were dealt. I wish I was born a Hilton, but I wasn’t.

And beyond all this, even if a college degree is necessary to make a living – which it isn’t – so what. Anyone can get a degree these days. Financial aid is so easy to get these days and community colleges are very affordable. Five years ago I wouldn’t have believed this myself, but I have since seen how ridiculously easy it is to go to college.

And before anyone says it, this isn’t coming from some spoon fed kid telling people they just need to work harder. It’s coming from someone who has lived it and has worked harder. I’m a high school dropout and I had to work my ass to make a living. I’m finally getting to a point in my life where I am living fairly comfortable, but it was fucking hard getting here. I had to make sacrifices and work a lot of hours. I didn’t pump out babies left and right and I don’t own any luxury items. I’ve never bought a brand new car and I drove the same 1993 Explorer until it had 290,000 miles on. I’ve had the same desktop computer for 8 years and I still watch an old 20 inch tube TV. The only thing I’ve been semi-frivolous with is my home gym.

If more people would just work a little harder and be just a little more frugal we might not hear so many people complain about how hard it is to make it.

I agree with you that a little fortitude would do people in that situation some good, but when you have more people than you have jobs, you are going to have a corresponding number of unemployed people to match the deficit in the number of jobs.
I totally agree that most of America live above their means.
Usually when I Post things like this I get testimonial after testimonial of how people have pulled themselves up by the boot straps. I have as well. But not everyone is as smart as you, not everyone has the fortitude you have, not everyone had the luck of good parents, not everyone
