Actually many are in prison within Australia on the basis of drug use/ extremely minor possession alone, esp QLD, where getting caught with pot a second time can net a sentence of up to 15 years. Not sure about America currently, but I know in the past people have been locked up for minor possession.

That’s a very common misconception.
The vast majority are in prison for distribution and or manufacturing. Not for “a dime bag.” Here you can possess up to 35 gm. After that it’s deemed a class of felony or misdemeanor.
And nobody arrests anybody for amounts that small here.
