The Walking Dead Season 2 Pt. 2

I was wondering about the leg/fall thing too. Weren’t they discussing removing the leg? This would indicate a very serious injury no?

I’ve never been traumatically injured like that, but I know the pain involved when simply pulling muscles and having joints out of whack.

And LOL at sandwich making whore being her natural state of being.

^ Also driving like an 80 year old asian without her glasses.

I learned after 20 years of medicine I have to suspend belief in most if not all movies and TV.

I remember watching something about CSI years ago before the Miami and New York versions. It was an interview with a woman who advised the writers on the medical/science aspects. She basically said that the writers would ignore the impossibilities so long as they thought the story was good. She talked about how much of what they show is improbable is not downright impossible. She was very nice about it, but I had the feeling she wanted to sort of clear her name.

Anyway, suspending belief is a prerequisite for a zombie show (even if I do believe they are real).

Are you implying that my love of zombies and enjoyment of the current republican primaries may have more in common than I thought?

I have to get my wife to do this…sometimes she can really ruin the movie or show for me lol

I think it was a bit of bad writing (overall this episode sucked ass in my opinion due to bad writing) but the significance was to hint that people who die without being bitten will still turn
I didn’t think it was bad writing at all.

I think it was definitely setting the stage so that now Rick knows that if someone dies even without being bitten, they turn into a walker and rise from their grave.

So, like, if someone you know gets shot and killed, and you bury them, you might have to go dig them up later to put one through their brain because you know they wouldn’t want to “live” as a walker.

Just sayin’.
I see what you did there.
Yup.

Although, I somewhat second borrek’s “bad writing”.

I liked the episode. Right up until it ended and I realized the plot didn’t move along mutch at all.

Andrea slapping down Lori was fine, and realistic enough. Then Andrea goes and gets herself involved in shit she should have stayed out of (if she was pro-suicide). I am not questioning her position, or the fact the girl realized she wants to live, I am pointing out that her dumb ass made an enemy of Maggie and Herschal.

It is one thing to say “She needs to find her OWN reason to live.” It is quite another to promise to watch someone’s daughter/sister and then leave them to kill themselves. Unless her next plan is to massacre the farm’s original owners she is now persona non-grata on the farm, and she should be. Trust is huge in crisis situations. She just made sure no one can trust her.

Do the writer’s hate women? At this point I don’t want Michone to show up because I am worried they will trash the character.

You don’t think it moved the plot along? The episode moved Rick and Shane’s conflict to physical violence and Rick’s moral dilmea that he might have to kill this kid because he knows where the barn is. Also, I think something happened with that girl cutting herself. I didn’t really give a shit about that subplot.

Also, I thought the scene where zombies kept falling on top of Rick after shooting them was one of the funniest moments of the show. Nice of the writers to throw some good slapstick into a dystopian zombie show.

Yes, the zombie violence was fantastic.

Well, what really changed with the episode?

LOCATION:
Still farm, sweet farm

TEAM RICK VS. TEAM SHANE
Rick once again thinks they can move forward. No more “thousand yard stare”. His plan was to talk it out. He is so “past it” that he didn’t even call Shane on the almost caving his skull in thing.

Shane was still plotting to get rid of Rick on the previews for next week.

PREPERATION
Rick mentions planning ahead. This was good, but highlights the fact they have not been doing any of it. No immediate plans for fortification.

LORI GRIMES vs ANDREA
Lori got put in her place by Andrea. Then somehow gets the highground thanks to Andrea’s decision to get involved and try to help the cutter’s exit along.

LORI GRIMES vs REALITY
Lori, she who jumps in a car without knowing where to go, rolls it, and nearly dies is now of the opinion that “the men” are handling safety fine. Last week she couldn’t trust them to round up Herschel from a bar, this week…“they got this shit”.

She is still ignoring any and all realities of the post ZED world. No apology for trashing one of their vehicles. Nothing.

ANDREA vs CONSISTANT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
In the comic she becomes capable and grounded. This is not the comic.

Andrea was the character most in touch with how a big sister might feel losing her little sister. Instead, she lies to help little sis shuffle off the mortal coil and into being shambler. Great.

“I keep the camp safe.” You fucking chose to shoot over/through your own people at an obscured target and only didn’t kill Daryl because you pulled your shot low and wide. You saved yourself in the RV and killed zombies with Shane. He is hardly “the camp”.

If you were someone to rely on, than you would not have lied to Maggie. However right you are you have/should have an enemy for life in Hershal and Maggie. Way to piss off one of the camps two biggest assets - the Doc. The rest of the camp is too dumb to know the difference between “morning after” and “abortion”. Good luck replacing Hershal. Go for the double and side against Dale so you lose your mechanic as well. Oh, wait…

THE CAPTIVE
Quick, magic his wounds away. Do not ask him any question over however long they take to heal.

Do the first interrogation out on the road- “I know Maggie!” Really, it never came up before? I know the Doc’s a vet so he hasn’t had “alert and oriented” beaten into him, but even vets check for tags.

Plan to leave him. Plan to kill him. Trust him with being the get away driver.

Next week - Ask him who he is.

At the end of the day the episode had great action, and some well done scenes and then forced the restoration of the “default”. I really do think the whole writing by committee thing is to blame.

Robert A

You skipped over the part where they have to decide whether to kill Randall or not.

I wish my Ipod could hold a charge like the one they used on the hostage kid.

Was he the “captive”?

Of course, for all my bitching I am still looking forward to next week. I wish the characters were more consistent and the writers were allowed to kill off people like in the comics, but I look forward to watching every week.

Just found this:

Walking Dead Personality Quiz:

Took for ever to load, and then it turns out I am “Rick”.

So, if I ever get married I assume my friends will have fun.

As much as I hate seeing good characters dying off, if it flows well with he story, I understand.

This is a problem with most series. One of the reasons I like Breaking Bad so much is that they are very true to the characters, so I understand the discontent here.

I think Breaking Bad, a fantastic show, has the luxury of a consistent team of writers and a production team that is willing to take risks with characters.

At this point on the Walking Dead no one is behaving in a way that makes survival likely. Pretty soon it is going to take suspension of disbelief just to imaging they have food/clothing/shelter this long after the power grid went down.

Why be disappointed?

Take is as proof that you are smarter than your best friend and yes, it is your significant other’s fault.

Oh, and that you can get away with a felt stetson if you feel like it.

The reason I thought it was bad writing was that to fit the specific scenario Rick and Shane came across, those two officers had to have died - at the exact same time - without being bitten, and without being fed on despite being out in the open. Neither were emaciated, so they didn’t die of hunger, and Shane mentioned their only wounds were scratches.

So, I’m supposed to believe they both died in the exact same place while in uniform of non-violent causes? The writers wanted the visual and then shoehorned them in.

Ever since that stupid scene where the crew walks into the church and the zombies are sitting in pews, the ham-fistedness has stuck out like a sore thumb.

The thing that makes the comics so awesome are those big double page panels with visuals that make you go “holy shit!” The show attempts the same and falls sophomorically short.

Thought you guys would appreciate this. My wife made this for me for my birthday.
