It’s an amazing game, and yeah, punishing.
Any Pokémon players here? Been getting the itch to play again, but really only cared for the original red and blue. Tried a few newer ones and they were pretty complicated.
Is there one out there right now that is pretty bare bones?
EDIT: Man f**k it. I just looked at some videos of the newest games and about had a panic attack. I’m just gonna download Pokemon Red from the virtual store and do that. I had blue growing up, so it’ll be “different”.
I wish they’d re-release Leaf Green/Fire Red.
Waiting impatiently for Cyberpunk 2077 to come out…
Well I’m going to completely revise my previous statement and say that, though I ended up downloading Pokemon Red to my 3DS, I also grabbed “Omega Ruby”, which is a remaster of Ruby from the Gameboy Advance, and it’s a decent compromise. Still fairly old school play.
I just got my wife into omega ruby as her first Pokémon game. Having grown up with most, I stopped playing around the Black/White era and I don’t care for the new games at all. Super boring, no story whatsoever and the animation is atrocious.
There are emulators online to play Fire Red/Leaf Green, Ruby/Sapphire, etc and that’s what we’ve been doing mostly. I don’t mind omega ruby, but it seems a lot easier than the OG ruby for GBA. Still a fun play nonetheless
While I’m here too, I’m finally getting into playing the last God of War. I played a bit at release but didn’t like it so much because it had no button mashing, wasn’t as over the top as traditional GoW games and playing on normal was way too easy. Plus I started school back and such so I just had less time.
Anyway, playing it again for one of my streams and I decided to go God Of War Experience which is the hardest difficulty in the game. It is by far the most difficult mode of a game I have ever played. Requires so much patience and time, but (going against what others online may say) I feel like you get to really enjoy what you’re playing. You have to pay so much attention to the area and where you are as well as your move set, what works best, etc.
Definitely enjoying the game WAY more than the first time.
Black was the last one I bought and didn’t get far in it. Just wasn’t wowed. I don’t care for emulators, but I may have to break down after this and give it a go. First generation is still the best, haha.
Thanks a lot for sharing this with me. I really liked this post a lot and will be sharing it with my friends.
I bought the remastered Command and Conquer on Steam. I played the hell out of those games back in the day. My roommate and I had an ethernet cord running down the hall between our computers to play each other. It holds up pretty well.
Finally bought Half-Life: Alyx. After 10 years of waiting for Half-Life 3, this is amazing. First real campaign game I’ve played in VR. Being in that world is fantastic.
My kid showed interest in a Sonic the Hedgehog game on their tablet, so I of course just went and bought a Genesis Mini on amazon. I’ll give it a review when I’ve had a chance to play around with it.
I am still slogging my way through FF7 Remake, but oh my god they’ve just mutilated the story. I’m more at “sunk cost fallacy” at this point.
looks fantastic. amazing those consoles still work
Those are all the newly released classic/mini consoles, although I DO own working versions of the originals. Just don’t care to unpack them. Been awesome using them to introduce the games I grew up with to my kid.
I have given up on FF7 remake. Square has, once again, ruined my faith in them. Playing the original Final Fantasy at this very moment and having so much more fun.
I’m finally getting my head around Crusader Kings 3. This game is really fantastic.
My only gripe is that they didn’t do a good job of modeling Mongol military tactics and strategic mobility.
This is far overshadowed by all of the other historical scenarios and freedom of play. If you’re like me, you’re used to grand strategy games that miss out on important mechanics, like multi-generation inbreeding.
Fret no more. You can now forge a dynasty of increasingly handicapped inbred mongoloids and let generations of them rule your lands for centuries. You can even adopt your own backwards religion to bring spiritual fulfillment to your hideous clan of club-footed, short-lived simpletons with lisps.
Best game I’ve played since Total War: Warhammer 2.
I just drooled at this picture, such a rarity
Played 2 hours of Overcooked 2 with my wife last night. Phenomenal game. Lots of teamwork and communication needed.
My current video game systems. I own several because of game exclusives. Some of the best games are only sold to one platform. When possible I try to buy for PC since that machine is far more powerful. The current game I am playing is called Days Gone it was a Sony PS only game for years but just got ported to PC. The game prior to that was Chernobylite.

If my son saw that he would flip. At 8 years old, for what ever reason, he is obsessed with retro gaming and has an incredible cache of game development history in his head.
We have had a Nintendo switch since Christmas and he loves that. I’m completely dazzled by it. For some reason I really like Nintendo’s characters and artistic style.
I think my neighbor does.
