The Video Game Thread

Nice unit man, blows apart my asus ROG laptop from about 8 years ago which is when I had my last one haha.

i’ll check those out, I use to be a die hard Diablo2 fan and as I mentioned starcraft and really got into FPS shooters on xbox360 until now… wouldn’t mind something different.

Just jumped on that Xbox game pass train… It was a $1 for the first month hard to pass up. I downloaded Jump Force and Darksiders III to try this week.

Really enjoying Borderlands 3. Graphics kind of throw me off though.

tried pathologic 2, a bit heavy on moral dilemmas, but very engaging at the same time.

Playing through “The Long Dark”. It’s an indie survival game on Steam; your plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness during the winter after a solar storm kills off all electronics. It’s entertaining, but the learning curve is super steep.

Wife’s not a big game player but we have soaked a lot of hours into overcooked and overcooked 2. I tend to think it’s pretty close to couch-co op perfection

It’s good, isn’t it? There’s another interesting one for 2 ppl. It’s about disarming a bomb, one person looks at the screen, the other one has the manual. Basically co-op puzzle game. Keep talking and nobody explodes is the title.

Hmm I’ll have to check that out. We’ve essentially mastered everything on overcooked 1 and 2. We played a game very similar called catastronauts which wasn’t as good but was still solid. Currently we are playing a game called tools up which is another similar work together type game again not as good as overcooked series but something the wife enjoys.

We play some pvp puzzle games against each other as well but I always look for little couch co-op indie games we can play together.

Of course I also play general single player games without her.

There’s a good pvp couch co-op game Hidden in plain sight. Whenever I have company over we usually have a good time playing it. But I think it only works with controllers so that’s bummer.

So after a few games of Escape from Tarkov, I’m done with that game. Visually, it’s stunning, and it’s the most tactical game ever made, hands down, but there’s just no point to it. You can either get shot immediately or go an entire hour without seeing another player, and some people spend hours just dropping into maps, looting abandoned buildings, and exfil’ing, with avoiding people just to get loot being the entire point of the run. And so you grind to get gear, and get gear to grind, and it’s all just completely pointless.

Back to mostly Rainbow Six Siege, which remains my favorite shooter of all time behind CS, and some PUBG, which is just a ton of fun, albeit frustrating sometimes.

I’m a fan of PUBG.

First time I ever got a chicken dinner will live with me till the day I die

Yeah I played a bit on xbox, and just played my first duo game with a friend on PC, and came 2nd. Was very intense. Those last couple minutes are crazy.

That moment where it’s an election year and you’re playing Fallout New Vegas and catch yourself going “Ya know, aside from the whole ‘slavery thing’, Caesar makes some cogent points…”

But also got the Mrs and I on Borderlands 3. I’m not as big a fan of the character classes compared to previous games, but the gameplay itself is still solid.

I’m just now getting around to playing Death Stranding. It… well… it really is a bunch of fucking walking. But it’s actually really fun, it’s easy to pick up after work and run a couple of deliveries, but it’s also good to veg out on a Saturday night and kill some story. Its… definitely a Kojima game though, no doubt.

I hear they managed to make the notion of travelling around a relatively empty open world fun by adding in stability mechanisms and whatnot, so you need to constantly worry about balance and whatnot… walking around is now an adventure

It’s a shame how they butchered the MGS series with metal gear survive… what were they thinking, I wonder if they were just fucking around at this point because Kojima left

After a little more time with Stranding, it’s actually pretty good. I hate the dogmatic nature of the videogame industry. If it’s not AAA, innovative gameplay, 500 hours long, with 0 flaws, it’s not worth getting to them. I almost missed this game because of shitty opinions, which is a shame, because I’m enjoying it.

Regarding metal gear, I dont know dude. Konami have so far driven out two of my favorite industry leaders. Koji (Castlevania) and Kojima. There was a reason #fuckkonami trended for so long. Oh well. At least Capcom got their head out of their ass.

Skyrim is still enjoyable to me, got some new mods to freshen things up.

I’ve sunk quite a few hours into BL3 but I can’t quite place my finger on what it seems to be missing. BL2 is probably one of my most played games of all time. Maybe it’s just a matter of it still being a work in progress. I did start playing BL2 late after all the kinks had been worked out.

I loved Borderlands 1 and 2, but none of the trailers for Borderlands 3 really landed for me. All the classes looked like reskins of old ones, and the whole “epic store exclusive” really was a non-starter for me; leave the ludicrous “exclusives” model to the console market.
