The UFC Thread | STRICKLAND BEATS IZZY

I don’t want to see the ring girls lose their jobs, but it strikes me as weird that this is still part of MMA. What would crack me up is if they had some jacked dudes hangin’ dong in banana hammocks for all the women’s fights.

Haha, I get your point, but we’re talking about an arena filled with drunk people watching meatheads beat each other senseless. The only thing that sells as well as violence is sex.

Volkanovski would make a great Bond villain

Nick looks slow

They both look slow, to be honest. Lawler looks fantastic physically, but the Diaz brothers have a history of looking slow and awkward while using their length to land great shots, and Nick is a great boxer. Nick looks like absolute shit, and he looks TIRED in the second round, but you just can’t count out a Diaz ever. Still, if I’m a betting man, I’m putting it on Lawler.

I know what you mean, but I feel like this is the difference between effortless (old Nick) and sluggish (tonight’s Nick). That was an unfortunate end. Don’t think we’ll be seeing more of Nick.

Well that was disappointing from Diaz. Started well though.

But Expected to be honest. I wonder if he needed the money or something.

Ok. Shevchenko -1500 favorite hilarious.

I am gonna call it now. If it isn’t Holloway who beats Volko (which I don’t think they are in a rush to make that fight and I dont think they should) it is going to be Giga Chikadze who is currently ranked number 8.

Sucks to hear Diaz complain about being “rushed” into a fight.

  1. Claims he only had 6 weeks to train but was tweeting about 266 10 weeks out.

  2. This is him in April:

No excuse for looking like a bag of ass compared to lawler.

  1. You had 5 years to prepare. Seriously. Nobody says you can’t take a break during then, but you know when your suspension is up. Gives you plenty of time to be ready the minute a fight is thrown your way.

He’s old and out of the game for a while. It’s okay to lose, but the excuses ain’t doin it for me.

Well.

You are right.

But come on. Mental health waxes and wanes all the time. Regardless of circumstances he still stepped in there and put in a good two rounds.

So yeah maybe he was ready for a war when that pic was taken. Then the very next day started eating like shit and not training hard.

When he got suspended, which is one of the biggest travesties in MMA history, I think he might have believed he was done.

Bisping did a great break down on it. I appreciated it because I was looking at that fight very negatively having held Nick in such high esteem.

He clearly still has the skill set. And to be honest all he needs is a drive and fire to fight again. Because unlike a lot of fighters his style was not dependant on athleticism. Like for instance Roy Jones Jr. or even people like Lawler himself. Once their athleticism goes they start dropping fights.

Having said that though. I don’t think we will see Nick again.

Big fights in the UFC this weekend in the light heavyweight and bantamweight divisions. Belts on the line in both (“interim” in the Yan/Sandhagen fight, but still …)

Also some great Russian fighters on the card in Islam Makhachev and the return of Khamzat Chimaev!

the biggest toss up imo is Peter Yan vs Corey Sandhagen, tho i give the edge to Yan.

Jan Blahovitch has been a great champ i dont see him losing

biggest question on chamiev is hows the cardio gonna be after that bad bout of 'vid

the prelim main heavy weight fight between the dagastani and volkov will be fire

Awesome card.

What a cinderella storey if Glover gets it done. He is durable so if he can handle Jan’s power and get him to the ground I think he can get it done.

Hard for me to call the Yan/Sandhagen fight but I think Yan gets the W.

Hope Hooker Smeshes Islam. Huge step up in competition for Islam.

Oh Yeah! i forgot that hooker islam was tomorrow! If Dan Hooker somehow wins that would be an amazing moment. Hooker said he wouldnt take the fight cuz he hadn’t trained wrestling in months then Uncle Dana called with red panty night… at least Hooker got a history of doing well on short notice fights

I like Hooker quite a bit but my money’s on Islam. I don’t think Dan can keep Islam at distance with technical kickboxing so his only option to stop the onslaught is a low-probability KO.

Islam could easily be champion right now, IMO. I don’t see Dan winning that one.

The next 2 weeks of MMA are just insane. SO excited.

Also, on a side note, Dana White was asked about Henry Cejudo challenging Volkanovski and Dana was like “that’s a tough conversation, are we really gonna let Henry just skip over all the people who have been here waiting?” And yeah, I agree, but where the fuck was that attitude when Michael Chandler got his title shot? At least Henry retired as champ…

Anyways, it’s all bullshit anyways, I’m just looking forward to tomorrow, and then to Usman-Covington 2 the next weekend.

no joke both these cards are stacked!

CCC should get the title fight, he not only dethroned the potentially greatest to do it in Demetrius, Cejudo also destroyed all challengers. Dana just doesnt want him to run home with the ball

its the golden era of combat sports right now so enjoy it, i remember 4 cards a year!

personally i think the Ali Act will become applied to MMA then we wont have a Shogun hand picking fights it will be all managers and padded records

this card is amazing, props to volkan, chimiev, kabib 2.0, and peter jan, Brazil v Poland next. fantastic fights tonight what a pleasure to watch

My prediction is that if Kamaru wins, he’s retiring in the ring during the interview.

He’s 34, and he could walk away relatively unharmed, become a commentator. Khamzat will make his way to champ. The UFC welterweight rankings are laughable, too. Khamzat’s not in the top 15, but Li, who Khamzat picked up and went to talk to Dana while doing so, is #11. Masvidal is #6, lol.

Anyways, that’s what I see happening. If Usman loses, he makes a killing on the trilogy.

Bold prediction but totally plausible. I’d respect the decision but be sorry to see him gone so soon, though to your point it’s not like we have to wait long for Chimaev to clear out the division.

For as much as I dislike Colby’s schtick I do respect his abilities. I still think he doesn’t get past Usman, though it would be nice to see Kamaru close it out a bit more definitively than a contested TKO.

I’ve gone from hating Colby to realizing it was just hating his character. Every fan interaction I’ve seen with him has been polite and wholesome. He pretty much said he was going to be cut despite winning a lot, so he started saying wild shit and got put to the top of the list. That being said, his choice of rhetoric is pretty distasteful and I dislike the WWE version of MMA, so I’m not exactly a fan, I just don’t blame the guy for keeping himself in the mix. And yes, he is legitimately the #1 contender at this point. Dude can bang with the best of them.

I’m betting on Kamaru to win, not because they’re not pretty evenly matched, but because Colby’s fought twice in the past 2 years, one of them being his last loss to Kamaru. His only win since then is against Tyron Woodley, and that doesn’t mean a thing. Meanwhile, Kamaru has fought 4 times - twice against Masvidal, who again is overrated but much better than Woodley, and once against Burns, who’s the #2 contender right behind Covington, so he’s just more active and has shown improvement every time.

Anyone who’s “sure” of the outcome of this fight is just being silly, though - it’s totally up for grabs, which is why I’m excited.

Also, Chandler-Gaethje is great. GREAT matchup in terms of style. Rose-Zhang too. Rose manages to always look like the underdog despite being so freaking dangerous, but Weili is a badass.

Jeez, I’m excited.
