Indeed, just heard the news today. He was a highly influential coach, and by all accounts very passionate about the sport of weightlifting, even into old age. He will be missed.

As I move back towards higher intensity training, my focus is on hip tension in the descent and becoming more comfortable with weights over 250kg. Looking good so far!

Nice lifting today. Triple with 252.5kg walked out with light training wraps - huge things coming. Depth was alright, could’ve been deeper but wasn’t unreasonable (see video):-

DB Incline Press: 4 x 47.5kg DBs, 2 x 8 x 40kg DBs

Machine Press: 2 sets to failure

I wonder how he actually was like to be coached under. I know he was called the butcher because he used to basically grind through lifters by pushing them to the point they quit/get hurt, and the ones who survive are the monsters that thrive on Bulgarian work.

Very pressed for time today, and tired after deads yesterday; starting my peaking phase after this, 4 weeks out on Sunday.

Going to do a wrapless Smolov Base Mesocycle to avoid stressing my calf or whatever it is and still add a significant amount to my squat.

Bench: to 3 x 9 x 110kg, 9 x 120kg

Easy volume; looking to grow and condition myself into this meet, as my strength and efficiency at higher weights is alright at the moment. Avoiding excessive wrapped work to heal calf. Feeling good.
