Best Wellness and Longevity Boosters

How do you define wellness? We say it's about feeling good and performing optimally while living longer and stronger. These supps will help.

Best Health Supplements for Feeling Good, Living Long

There are plenty of good supplements for building muscle, but what about the other stuff, like general health and wellness? There are thousands available, so let’s narrow down the list and focus on the most important ones for longevity and feeling good.

1. Certain Chelated Minerals

If you’re an athlete, you sweat and thus you’re likely deficient in zinc, which, along with selenium, maintains high testosterone levels and the immune system. If you’re a plain old human, you’re also likely deficient in magnesium, and magnesium alone is responsible for over 300 biochemical reactions in the human body, ranging from muscle and nerve function to protein synthesis.

Likewise, certain minerals like chromium and vanadium help maintain regular blood sugar levels and insulin. These particular minerals are often in short supply and athletes would do well to take them, preferably in chelated form. Our Elitepro (Buy at Amazon) formula is the best source.

2. The Right Kind of Vitamin D3

If you’re able to spend between 15 and 30 minutes in the sun, pretty much naked, every day, without getting skin cancer or looking like an old catcher’s mitt, skip the vitamin D3 supplements. Otherwise, take 1000 to 5000 IU every day to enjoy increased cognition and better immune health and bone health while reducing the risks of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Ideally, use microencapsulated vitamin D3 (Buy at Amazon). This form of the vitamin is manufactured by encapsulating vitamin D3 molecules in liposomes or solid lipid nanoparticles. The vitamin then presents as tiny “beadlets” and is protected from moisture, oxidation, pH, temperature, and mechanical forces. It’s stable, water dispersible, and highly bioavailable.

The effects of microencapsulated vitamin D3 remain constant for up to two weeks, making it superior to conventional vitamin D3 supplements. Our D Fix (Buy at Amazon) contains 5000 IU of microencapsulated vitamin D3.

3. Coenzyme Q10

CoQ10 18 is what’s known as a pseudovitamin in that it’s essential for life, but it’s not essential to life that you supplement with it. Nevertheless, consider taking 90 to 200 mg. a day, with food, to reduce plaque in the arteries and to feed mitochondria. Life Extension makes a good one (Buy at Amazon).

4. Resveratrol

It can protect us from insulin resistance and heart disease, along with working as a potent estrogen antagaonist and aromatase inhibitor. Take about 600 mg. per day. Rez-V (Buy at Amazon) is the top choice.

5. Cyandin 3-Glucoside

This substance regulates the chemical master switch called AMPK (adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase). This master switch plays a huge role in determining not only how fat you are, but how long you live. Take 2400 to 3600 mg. per day before meals. Indigo-3G (Buy at Amazon) is the most potent.

6. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

We live in an omega-6 world and it’s killing us. Nature intended for us to have a two-to-one or three-to-one ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids in our body, but because of our fast-food, snack-food, meal-in-a-box way of life, this ratio is now more like 20 to 1 in favor of the omega-6s.

Inflammation is thus running rampant through our bodies and the best way to stop it is to cut down on the omega-6’s and to start swallowing those beautiful amber fish oil gelcaps. Take up to 12,000 milligrams of a combined DHA/EPA formulation such as Flameout (Buy at Amazon) once a day.

7. Conjugated Linoleic Acid

CLA is a fatty acid found in high quantities in grass-fed beef. Since most of us don’t get much grass-fed beef, we’re likely deficient in this important fatty acid.

Numerous studies have shown it to be a potent cancer fighter, as well as playing a role in normalizing blood pressure, fighting cardiovascular disease in general, and helping with osteoporosis, inflammation, and even body composition. Take about 1,000 mg. a day. Products like Flameout (Buy at Amazon) that contain the two isomers of CLA are the best choice.

8. Micellar Curcumin

Curcumin (Buy at Amazon) is one of those supplements that sometimes seems too good to be true because the stuff does everything. It helps enhance cardiovascular health, reduces body fat, relieves pain, and reduces estrogen levels, among other things.

Problem is, standard curcumin isn’t very bioavailable, even with piperine added. Luckily, science has solved that problem.

Micellar Curcumin (Buy at Amazon) contains solid lipid curcumin particles that produce 95 times more free curcumin in the bloodstream than standardized curcumin with piperine (Gota VS et al, 2010). Obviously, a micellar formulation is the smartest way to go if you actually want to absorb the stuff.

9. Superfood – 18 Health Foods in One

This product is the thinking man’s alternative to multivitamins. It consists solely of 18 nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables that have been desiccated, pulverized, and stored in a pouch. As such, Superfood (Buy at Amazon) contains all the nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals intrinsic to the fruits and vegetables it’s made from. Take one scoop a day.

10. P-Well… for your P and Your Other P

You already care about sexual health and, sooner or later, you’ll start thinking about prostate health (and the two are often related). So it only makes sense to take a supplement like P-Well (Buy at Amazon) that supports both, along with other things.

Here’s what P-Well offers:

Prostate Support

  • Promotes healthy prostate size and function
  • Helps manage oxidative stress and inflammation
  • Supports healthy urination and bladder emptying
  • Helps protect prostate cells
  • Promotes healthy hormone metabolism in the prostate
  • Helps maintain already healthy PSA levels

@TC_Luoma Does Superfood contain large quantities of resveratrol? If so, can the resveratrol be an issue for those who have beaten estrogen-positive breast cancer? I’ve heard that soy products could be a threat for such people (although, I’m not even sure how well this has been studied) and knowing both soy and resveratrol have been classified as phytoestrogens, I thought the same potential threat could be present for both.

It likely doesn’t contain enough of any particular polyphenol or carotenoid to have a specific medical effect. That’s not the point of Superfood. Rather, it’s meant to offer a whole spectrum of phytochemicals and nutrients, just as if you’d get if you were eating a wide variety of off-the-shelf fruits and vegetables. And while the blueberries contained in Superfood no doubt have a few milligrams of resveratrol, again, I can’t imagine that it would pose any danger. You probably wouldn’t worry about just eating a few blueberries, right?

Sorry, I was so intent on answering the question, I forgot to ask how you were! You doing okay? Mentally and physically?

I realize this may not be a question you might enjoy, but (just out of curiosity) if you were to pick only three of these supplements, which ones would make the cut?

Hmm. I think Superfood, Curcumin, and Vitamin D3, and I’d try to make up for not having any fish oil supplement by eating a hell of a lot of sardines and salmon.

So, the minimum effective dose of indigo-3g is 2400mg/day, but the serving size is 300mg? Why am I paying $48.74/month for sub standard dosing? That works out to $390/month to get the proper dosing.

Why not I-Well, then you get to put Flameout in the list?

This article is a reprint. It was written before new research came out on cyanidin 3-glucoside.

Hey, you said to name three. It was a tough choice! My arm could easily be twisted into changing my mind, though.

I guess my question is: doesn’t I-We’ll cover D3 and curcumin?

Dr. Seheult of MedCram has provided a somewhat unrelated mechanism by which sun exposure could, in and of itself, confer untold health benefits via subcellular melatonin:

Salmon is the most toxic animal product in the world today, is this a wise choice?

I just finished an article on the most toxic foods and salmon wasn’t even close to the top of the list. I’m more than willing to hear your argument, though.

It is just that I ready quite a lot recently about salmon in general, farmed in particular. One of the things I watched was a docu on farmed salmon, quite scary, mostly because of how they feed them:

The thing is, even wild salmon seems to be so heavy on metal, that maybe is better to skip altogether.
Maybe you have better information, hopefully.

Oh yeah, farmed raised, aka “Atlantic” salmon, bad stuff. However, the Alaskan variety has a lot less PFAS and PFOS than fish caught in the lower 48. Some mercury, yes, but not as bad as the big tunas.

Thanks for the info. I thought that may be the case but wanted to be sure. I actually wanted to recommend superfood to my mother as she has some digestion issues and tends to pass food quickly and I’m afraid she doesn’t absorb the right nutrients. She beat it quite a few years ago and is okay now, but just wanted to check on this before recommending it to her. Thak you for asking!

So wild caught Alaskan is the way to go then? I’ve been buying the farmed stuff from Whole Foods, which I think is Norwegian.

Tough to say. Whole Foods is aware of the rep that “Atlantic” salmon has, so they insist that the salmon they buy from Norway comes from farms that have production values way above normal. Maybe. Makes me nervous, though.
