It seems like the new debate is now about what chicks like better, little guys with abs, or big guys without abs (refer to yesterdays article discussion).
My question is this: Is that why all you guys do this? For the chicks?
I will admit, I started working out for the chicks, desparately trying to be as lean as possible. By after getting serious for a couple of years that has completely changed. I lift because I myself want to be as big and strong as I possibly can be. I could care less what the high school/college trashy girl population thinks of me. But I guess trying to nail superficial women just isn’t a high priority and I am thankful that it never will be. I have found it way more rewarding to watch my body get stronger and bigger each week.
Maybe I am lucky though. I am 21 years old and already have a wife who is loyal and is not the type of woman who would ditch me and find value in herself for sleeping with a guy who is leaner than me. If I had to worry about stuff like that, life would not be very enjoyable.

People who do this strictly to get women will never stand out much at all. There has to be that internal motivation that keeps you pushing harder. Otherwise, you become the type to quit trying so hard once you actually get the girl and life throws you any curve balls at all. These are the guys who claim they train “off and on” and then quit completely once they graduate and get a real job.
Also, that debate in the other thread is retarded. They seem to actually believe that we are advocating becoming obese as a part of gaining the most muscle you can in a given period of time. I am not obese. I don’t recommend anyone become obese.
However, I know for a fact that it is no coincidence that most of the people so worried about their abs have such a hard time breaking 200lbs relatively lean at average height. The fact that one of the authors here needed steroids to do that is not what we are talking about at all. Perhaps…just maybe…if he hadn’t tried so hard to remain as lean when gaining, he might have been able to do that naturally.
In fact, if you need steroids to get your arms over 17", you may not be as cut out for this as you think.

Good points.
I find it funny that they say we say we are “bulking” as an excuse to get fat.
I think that when they are emphasizing their “health”, they are just using that as an excuse for not building any real muscle. Because as we all know, anything over 12% body fat is just grossly unhealthy.

Most likely the people that lift for the females are the ones that think any gain in body fat is bad or the same ones that right post about not wanting to gain too much muscle as if they will accidentally put on 100lbs of pure muscle if they aren’t careful…
Ya Shugart’s articles usually catch a lot of flak from the people here that actually give a shit about maximizing size/strength gains. It’s a shame that we’re definitely not the majority though, you’d think his articles would be a huge disconnect from “relentless pursuit of muscle” but apparently not…

I think its a decent article, but are right. It contributes nothing to the “creeds” of the site. The article should just be ran in men’s health.
Also, if I was CT, Berardi, Dave Tate, or even CW, I would be personally offended that after all they have put into this site we are hearing more people say “best article ever” to 8 Ah-Ha moments by a relatively small, yet super-sexiliciously lean guy.

I don’t know, if you read the thread, I think it covers “elitist” pretty well.

I will contribute. I have mostly lurked, mainly because i am always at work when i am reading the site and don’t want to get in shit for it.
I live the lifestyle, train consistently.
I wrestled through highschool and in my final year i was 176 lbs, since then (two and a half years) i have gained about 50 lbs. i am now 225 lbs.
So far i have not stepped onstage because at 5’11 i would look lanky cut down. As of right now i will be competing in an OPA (ontario physique association) show next november.
I don’t post alot on this board but I appreciate this thread and everyone sharing experience and perspective.
I am a WNBF Female BBer
I am a few weeks into prep for 2009. This will be my fourth year competing.
I have lifted on an off since high school (I’m 40 now), but started lifting with the stage as the end game in the summer of 2005. In 2006 I won my pro card then proceeded to get my ass handed to me.
I changed diet coaches and competed twice in 2007 with far better results top 5 in my first for the year and was runner up in the 2007 Worlds. Work only allowed me to compete once in 2008 and again I was the bridesmaid - grrrrrrrrrr
So I live the lifestyle and I pay for it when I don’t with longer preps to get the extra weight off. I am fortunate and have a husband who lives the lifestyle in lockstep with me.
T-Nation has been a huge source of inspiration for change ups to my splits and excercise choices.

Thanks for the thread.[/quote]
wow congrats. We have a professional bodybuilder in the house people!
I think you should start posting more…if you can that is
I am an NPC competitor and follow mainly that and then the IFBB since we feed into it. I know WNBF is a natural organization correct? After getting your pro card is their a pro division that is still natural or have you been competing against Iris Kyle and them in the IFBB?
Either way congrats on that and I really would like to see some more of your posts…anybody with the term pro bodybuilder deserves a lot of respect, especially around here.

Sir you flatter me!
The INBF is the amateaur federation for WNBF and yes both are natural. If I had to battle it out with the likes of Iris I would be crushed to say the least!! Think more the size of the bigger IFBB Figure competitors, leaner and sans 5" hooker heels
I would love to delurk a bit more. I am a bit into precontest already and I find this is the time I start spending more time on-line. Probably to spend less time in the kitchen!

lol well to me the term ‘I have my pro card’ is VERY impressive. lol
Ok thats cool, I’m glad I understand that now…I have never learned any other organization besides NPC to IFBB as that is where I am at.
LMAO @ ‘sans 5" hooker heels’ haha!
I know what you mean…I spend quite a bit of time on here anyways, but precontest I’m trying to do anything to keep my mind off of the junk. I’m thankful enough that I don’t have to diet too long nor cut too many carbs…but it’s dropping the sweets and easy to make junk foods thats hard for me.
Anyways I’d be glad to see you posting around, I’m sure there are many who’d love to pick your brain. lol
