The Tactical Life

Hello gents.
A good read that elucidates the discipline of the Roman Legions. Most commanders have a copy.

De Re Militaris

My copy isn’t handy else I’d include ISBN

I’ve some experiential knowledge to impart.

I have recently, 31 years post-injury, started losing use of a dominant hand due to atrophy and pain.
THAT necessitated accepting I simply can no longer do my favorite activity with it - shooting handgun.

I saw this coming a very long time ago. What is most challenging is accepting it as reality and adjusting accordingly after having admitted the problem to myself and others. Guns I’ve lived shooting on the walll making me feel they’re essentially making fun of me for being unable to shoot etc.

It’s very hard to admit one’s limitations at times even when they’re a hard and fast reality. However, in order to move forward one must simply be objectively, painfully honest about things, adapt, and move on.

Some are cursed with a personality opposed to doing this. I was, until it finally crossed a particular line.

The good news here is, I’ll EDC left cause I’m as fast and accurate with it as I am right, especially now

I’d suspect this translates to, maybe from, other areas of life. We must always be honest with ourselves about physical capabilities, and be willing to adapt.

I hope this is of help to anyone.

You all take care & God bless,

Wise words , brother. All of us would be better served by your wisdom. Thanks for the insightful post.

According to Rear Adm. Robert Besal, who works with the Mission Readiness advocacy group, the Commandant’s article is correct in his assessment that the pool of eligible candidates is shrinking. According to recent statistics, 77 percent of Americans between the ages of 17 and 21 are ineligible to serve in the military, Besal said.

According to Besal, one of the leading health concerns is childhood obesity, which accounts for 30 percent of those who are ineligible. In addition, drug abuse and prior criminal activity are the three most common reasons for ineligibility and failure to pass entrance exams.

Damn, WTF?

Glad to see you dropping in.

It takes a wise man to realize his limitations - wasnt that an Eastwood line.?

Seriously though, agree about what you are saying. The brain is the best overall defense tool. Well until it’s GoTime.

I’m nowhere near as fast with my left than as with my right, but funny enough, I might be more accurate shooting lefty single handed than righty. I think with the left it’s a case of the hand “doesn’t know what it doesn’t know” and it’s actually easier to follow basic shooting fundamentals.

Do you have nerve damage in your neck/upper back?

I have not had access for several days, so I am behind in honoring all who fought and died on December 07, 1941:

Today marks the 81st year since the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, an event which resulted in the deaths of 2402 Americans and would plunge the United States into world war.

Anyway you can find the Aussie Frontline Instagram page or Mike bravo films web page. Any love is appreciated. Stay safe all

@idaho I’m humbled. Thank you.

My left being as good is a result of having to use it instead of my right over the years for misc tasks, and I’ve trained the hell out of it because there may very well be a day when my right can no longer grip, hold, and shoot a pistol. Rifles do not typically have enough recoil rocking my hand to be a problem for a few shots, plus they are fired with both hands, so strength isn’t as big a deal, though it’s getting to be, slowly.

I’d estimate most RH shooters who start training left probably take more care with their grip and trigger pull and thereby sometimes hit better left than right. It forces ya to pay closer attention until it has been conditioned.

My neck & upper back have significant scar tissue. There’s so much adhesion I literally can’t lie with my face down in a massage table head ring thing. That’s from multiple implant surgeries (x3), not an injury although it was a line-of-duty injury the eventually necessitated it. Why do you ask though?

First, I’ve only been able to locate a “reply button” at the end of a post, therefore it feels as if it’s replying to the last post every time.
In this case, I’m replying to nothing - it’s a new post altogether

I am simply very, very happy to have located a gym in my area that is a great fit for me. First they open at 0530 weekdays and open weekends, so that’s the 1st selling point for a middle age vet who can’t sleep for over 3.5hrs w/o medication.
And they have deadlift platforms + power racks along with all the free weights I could ever want.

An aside, it was the first time I saw a barbell with grip sleeves that slide inward as you press, kind of making the barbell function as a dumbbell press device with that squeeze at top.
Sauna. Steam room. Healthy food & drink bar.
Clientele is exclusively 50+. The yoga teacher is a 70yo lady, the manager a retired fireman. And it’s in a fairly affluent location. Of course that only matters as it applies to a persons level of comfort in a crowd.
I did not see one “type” that was prevalent though. Not everyone focused on cardio, or moving huge barbells - a good mix of folks with different goals and various ways of accomplishing them.

What I care about the most is:
*Nearby
*Perfect hours
*All equipment I desire
*Sauna + Steam room
***Best of All - it’s free to me :+1:

I get that this info is not exciting news but for me it is a happy thing. Finally, after over 20 years, I found a gym that’s every bit as good as the first ones I went to :)))). Score!

When we hit the 50 year mark sometimes, things we never give much thought to, are exciting.

GEAR CHANGE I have a question;

Any of you ever fired, or happen to own a Kimber K6 revolver? I’ve sold all but a 12 ga, and for a LH EDC piece I considered a revolver to avoid magazines. If.6 shots from a 4” .357 won’t save me than it just wasn’t meant to be.

Glad you found a good gym. I don’t have any experience with Kimber revolvers, but, have experience with Ruger, S&W, Tauraus and Colt. All good. I would ask over on the guns and shooting thread under the PWI thread. A lot of people over there have different makes and models.
