The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 2)

Society would compensate for dumbassery, like usual.

So, the problem is just the amount? What if a minimum wage screws things up regardless, but it’s only immediately noticeable when taken too far, too quickly?

What’s the actual logic behind having a fast-food specific minimum wage? Putting all of the possible corruption and complexities of definitions aside, what’s the actual upside? If you think that a minimum wage increase will help, why doesn’t it help everywhere?

Or is the fact that it was limited actually reveal the fact that they knew it would break things and they were just willing to break fast food?

Given its detriment to society’s health, if this was the “insidious” goal, I would support that.

Money!

Its like my idiot junky neighbor. He thought that since I have a car (2!) I “got money”. He apparently missed the 30 years prior of protecting my credit, working my ass off, all the usual stuff anybody has to do which manifests as a house, wife, kid & two cars. And a working lawnmower..

So then, because I have more than him, I “got money”. He can support a dope habit, but he’s broke. So he looks at me and says “Oh, he got money!”.

No I dont. Im broke too, but with more durable goods and reasons.

So a bunch of dumb-dumbs with the “got money” mentality have been manipulated into thinking they Deserve as much as anybody else, cuz dignity of workers, other mind numbing garbage.

I think the SEIU is behind it. They know how to work the minimum wage crowd.

I understand the minimum wage argument. I mean specifically the argument of why only fast food workers?

Alternate minimum wage, cost of living, rise of gig workers, you name it.

Well, they mistook thinking that a job that used to be for kids in highschool was a career path, so they’re also pretty easy to convince that they’re worth multiples more than what they were getting.

Next stage- “Fast food workers are making $20/hr. I deserve $75!”

Cuz my work is always harder than yours.

Also, as @Jewbacca2 pointed out, union wage scale is tied to minimum wage by a multiple of like 3.5 or something.

Fast foood was about the last major employer to hold fast to federal minimum of $7.25.

If they could break the grip fast food had on minimum wage, the sky is the limit for the wages that are tied to it, as are the dues which are a percentage of the wages.

Union representation has become a business of its own.

In the area I live (and I believe in many others around the country), fast food restaurants have starting wages above the minimum wage because you can’t hire people if you are only offering minimum wage. If you’re willing to work jobs that are less comfortable (but still unskilled), starting wages are even higher. I’m not saying that you get rich working these jobs, but the minimum wage is no longer doing anything at all.

Exactly, now the push for a $15.00 federal minimum wage has begun. A few years ago it was whispers, now, its protests and marches.

I used to work at McDonald’s making minimum wage. You know what that means when someone pays you minimum wage? You know what your boss was trying to say? “Hey if I could pay you less, I would, but it’s against the law.”

I worked at burger king in 1979 for minimum wage…it was a job for teenagers

The industry and economy might have changed since then.

Which is why prices are going up…the consumer will alway pay the difference

AI and robotics will push workers out because it will cheaper

so…all those workers that wanted an increase in minimum wage…some are now out of a job

be careful what you wish for

I agree. I’m not debating the necessity of a minimum wage. I’ve worked for people that would literally kill me if it saved more than it cost.

Im saying "these are the tools(minimum wage, fast food workers) , and this is how they’re being used (as the base which other wages are determined from) and by whom (union/legal representatives).

Whatever happened to parents who told their children “If you don’t want to just work a minimum wage job and be poor, you better do good in school, either go to college or go learn a trade such as welding, HVAC, plumbing, etc? Otherwise, you’re going to live a very tough, miserable life. Being poor is hell, but life is hard, and nobody is going to just hand you money. The only person who cares about your well being has to be you.” That kinda shit.

I guess the generation of parents after mine [baby boomers…very early ones at that] thought that might be too “harsh or mean”. But, its the truth. You are paid a certain wage basis the value that you bring to the company/organization & commensurate with either your level of accreditation OR extent of your degrees.

Yes, I know, there are many potential problems with who, why, etc. decides said value/wage…but I meant it in just its very general, base form.

Go woke, lose your job to a robot…eh, not too catchy but in this case its exactly what will happen. I read an article the other day about how many California franchisee owners are beginning to invest in self-order kiosks, cutting hours, and cutting staff to the bare minimum. So now I guess someone will cook your burger, serve the fries, AND clean out the bathroom! As always, I never get tired of watching Californians stupidly vote with their feelings rather than their brains and then watching the chaos ensue. Shame as it really is a beautiful place but due to all the liberal voting it is almost impossible to carve out a nice living there, affordability speaking.

I decided to edit this, since I wanted to share a perspective instead of just being snarky.

Almost everyone I know has student loan debt, some of them owe more now then when they graduated, despite making payments on time. Some keep it because it’s their oldest credit score so the want to be able to buy a house someday.

If you found a place that calculates compensation this way, that’s awesome. That’s a unicorn though. My wife works for a huge job placement company. Apparently some disgruntled enployee took revenge by posting anonymous positive reviews with high salaries, perks, benefits, no dress code, etc. They had huge hiring problems for years.

It’s surprisingly easy, but like anywhere else you have to “speak the language.” Plus it’s all fragmented social microclimates. But I fucking love it.

Frank told 'em.

My parents and grandparents used to use this exact phrase.
