The Stupid Thread 2 (Part 1)

I’m not judging someone who was facing the reality of seeing himself and his family sent to the death camps. Collaboration is what many Frenchman did after the Germans occupied France (although after the war every Frenchman had been part of the Resistance). They turned over Jews with a smile as well as communists and socialists. Nothing Soros or his father did is even close to that.

Socialism is bad for its own reasons. There is no need to make the uneducated and ignorant connection between socialism and nazism to make that point. Americans have a silly, childlike fascination with throwing around labels like Nazi and fascist. It’s as if we live in a world where there are only two possibilities. You are either column A or column B. Nazism has its own column. The first Germans to be put in concentration camps were not Jews, but communists and socialists.

As is the case with all socialist and fascist regimes. Says “ABC” but means “DEF”.

Reasonable democrat leaves craziness behind:
Tulsi Gabbard leaves Democratic Party, denounces it as ‘elitist cabal’ | Fox News

I generally like Gabbard apart from her stance on Nuclear Power.

Her stance on guns is shit too.

Guess I wasn’t familiar with that one. Have to look into it more.

But as far as “democrats” go - she is one of the few I think are sane.

Tulsi is truly one of my preferred candidates… have been hoping she and DeSantis join up on the same ticket in 2024.

How the party of the disenfrahcnised managed to select yet another old white career politician instead of a young, attractive, multiracial female combat vet, is still beyond me.

@Bauber haven’t heard her stance on guns, but as long as she’s willing to table any gun control legislation, I’d support her.

Hmm,
This seems pretty reasonable in my opinion:
Tulsi Gabbard :hibiscus: on Twitter: “Supreme Court’s ruling regarding concealed carry is a strong step forward in upholding 2nd Amendment & our constitutional right to defend ourselves. https://t.co/bWaSrA9h28” / Twitter

I see she is for banning “assault style” weapons (which is a term that needs better definition). Honestly not sure where I fall on this particular one. I don’t like AR style firearms, but that’s just personal preference.

I am also not opposed to better background checks for gun purchases.

DeSantis is too much courting the trump camp lately and has consistently voted against personal freedoms for LGBT folks. He also voted against bumping up hurricane aid before begging for more of it after Ian.

I am in political no-man’s land. I am conservative on some issues and basically libretarian on others.

I can’t get behind banning “assault weapons”.

2A wasn’t to protect us from each other, it was to protect us from them… if they can have tanks, we should be able to have tanks. If they can have F-35’s, I want one too.

Politicians would start acting right again if they knew they were a drone strike away from non-existence… hell, they might even start following their own rules.

I hear this argument a lot and while I understand the premise it’s flawed logic. Most people could not acquire high power weaponry like jets and tanks. Any firearm available to citizens pails in comparison to what these weapons can do.
If the government really gets uppity, the best the citizenry can hope for is that at least part of the military sequesters their weaponry and uses it for the side of the citizens.

What personal freedoms for LGBTQ people has he been against, aside from the comically mischaracterized “don’t say gay bill”, which in my opinion didn’t go far enough.

That bill was misrepresented by both sides of the media and it took me talking to LGBT folks to understand it. It’s basically to the point where a gay person could not even put a picture of their spouse up for fear that a child asks about it and then reports to their parents that their teacher has a same-sex marriage. If the parent then complains, it can put that persons career in jeopardy.

The biggest problem with that bill is that the language is too vague and open to too much interpretation. I am not against the intent of that bill (teach sex-ed/gender stuff in the home), but the bill is very poorly written.

Has nothing to do with financial ability to acquire, and everything to do with lawful ability.

The Rule of Law has been pushed aside for quite some time now… what’s worse is that we allow this to happen.

I don’t want to derail this thread with this debate so I will leave it here.

I understand your point, but it exists a bit outside of the reality today IMO.

She is the typical uninformed leftist on guns.

There is no “gun show loophole” and every gun bought from a FFL or licensed seller requires a background check.

Residents of the same state are allowed in most states to sell a gun to another resident without e federal or NICS background check. Every gun show I’ve been to all of the vendors are FFL holders and require background checks and I’ve been to A LOT.

In MS your firearm permit counts as a background check considering they have everything on file for you down to your DNA and fingerprints.

So not liking something makes it okay to support banning them?

Politicians who want to ban scary black ARs or “assault weapons” have zero clue about guns and really need to either educate themselves on the subject or shut the fuck up.

The thing is - you can have all that if you have enough money.

I have a class 3 and 09/07 FFL.

It’s costly but I can own and possess firearms normal folks can’t have.

So people with means can have what they want but the peasants are just fucked.

Aren’t democrats supposed to be against that?

Middle East anyone?

Seems the greatest military in the world has had a hell of a time fighting people with soviet era weaponry in tiny tiny areas.

Plus, if your government starts using planes and other heavy weapons on its citizens your country is over.

I don’t support banning them. I do think we need something in place to help prevent further school shootings - bans are not the answer there.

True

but given

Does it matter?

If we are talking about other countries invading ours, I would assume our military will defend and there are plenty of weapons in US homes to defend as well.

I want to get my concealed carry in FL just so I can carry a decent knife. I can’t carry in most places I go on a daily basis unfortunately.
